Question in regards of bike saddles -

I bought my Butterfly Ti saddle back in Aug. It wasn't an issue at all, and it was comfortable. However, since I lost the weight, and off from the bike for a month (Nov), and have been occasionally cycling, sitting feels uncomfortable currently.

I don't think it's the saddle OR the fit. I don't think there's much more I can do with the fit because I'm short, so if I raise the seat, it will be too tall.   Lately when I'm riding, I'm always feeling like I'm slipping forward to the narrower part of the saddle, and that's uncomfortable.

Is it the saddle issue? Fit issue? (the saddle is as far forward as I can get without compromising the rest of the fit). Is it the weak core issues? Or should I just HTFU and keep moving myself back when i am slipping forward.

I usually feel better and stay seated on my sitbones when I'm in the drops, but when I'm on the bar, I just seem to slip forward and I hate that.  Thanks for any advice.

IMO it is your bike set up.  I was having issues with the saddle riding up my crotch after I took the aerobars off for the winter so my fitter changed the position.  Now I do slide forward a little and put too much weight on my upper body.  I need to change it...maybe bring my seat forward a tad to relieve some of the pressure.  It is a little trial and error, but a good fitter should be able to get you comfortable.

Re: the DNS, not sure.  I know there is no aquabike and it doesnt appear there is a relay for this race either.  I won't chance damage to the foot.  I dont have a problem DNF'ing, just not sure I want to spend the extra cash for the hotel and airfare and the hassle of getting my bike to town if I can't finish what I start.....main reason I would go is to see the gang...

PS Thanks for changing your attitude.  I feel much better now   It must be time to go eat Thai for dinner.

Well, I had a great swim yesterday, and today I logged a good 3.08 mile run.  I didn't feel like I was pushing that hard, and my Avg HR was still 169, which is still in my HR Z2, but this is much faster than I have been running.  I havent run a standalone 5k race since 2007, and now I'm kinda curious if I could break the 20 min mark?

Lap Data

I'm a little behind on the MG reading.  School and work have kept me off the boards.  I'll try to catch up by tomorrow.

YES!! AWESOME RUN!!!! And wow, a HR up to 194?? Gawd does that make me feel old! I don't think I ever see above 172 or 174, but I know we are all built differently and my HR is perfect and awesome for me (don't wanna get thwacked by Suzy for sounding negative!)! I'm most impressed with how you got faster with each mile. Yay for you -- great work!!

Happychick - 2010-02-02 9:42 PM Holy cow...school (along with life in general) is kicking my butt right now and I can't even remember the last time I came by here.  Anyway, I've been plugging along with my (HIM) workouts as if i'm actually going to do one this year.  I had planned on doing Honu (here on the Big Island) but my husband has had a job offer in WA that he has accepted so he will be retiring from the Army 1 May and we will be moving to (very) northern WA!  I see they have a HIM right by where we will be living so as long as the move doesn't totally kick my arse, I am hoping to do it!  (Is that the longest run on ever or what?!)  Now I need to look up the races in that area and get a tentative schedule going so I have something to focus on!

Also, thank you so much for checking in on me even though I have been totally absent from the thread!!

Does this mean we are NEIGHBORS??? Where are you moving to?

Yup!   We are looking to buy a house in Lynden...where are you (and remember I don't really know the area too well!!)

Hey guys...just checking in.  Sorry I have not been active lately.  Started the new job and trying to get my running in and watching some baseball....takes some time.  The weather has been GREAT for a day or 2 then it $UCKS for 3-4 days.

Ran 8 today on part of the ING Marathon course.  Very nice run until about the 5.5 mile mark where the training partner had some GI "issues".  We pulled into a nearby DQ and that helped.  The rest of the run had good pace and finished strong.

Not racing this weekend but I do have another 16 miler to do on Sunday.  Wooo Hooo!!

SSMinnow - 2010-02-02 5:11 PMDJ--were you absent the day we had the lesson in not putting yourself down for your current level (see highlight below)?  Trina was the last to get the lecture.....I swear when you stop thinking like that you will more than exceed all expectations, bet you will run 2m non stop.  We are all slower than someone ya know.  The minute I stopped putting my swimming down, I got better.  Am I slower than almost anyone in the MG? YEP.  Do I have more endurance than a lot of people in the group? Maybe! or 95% of the free world? YEP.  Change your frame of reference girl!

By popular demand....who the heck is racing this weekend? where? why? and you better be setting some PR's in the process!

Not racing (at least not until April!!) - But I start my training with my coach(s) this week. It won't be an intensive coach just supportive and to help me out with my schedule and times. I think I got a pretty good deal for $250 for 15 weeks of coaching. :-) Is that good?!  I'm not their elite athlete, so I'm not paying premium prices, but I think it's enough for unlimited email access, Training Peaks, set schedule for Sprint Tri and support.

PR - CROSSING my fingers, would be doing 0.95 mi of straight running on Friday!  I know it's not exactly the greatest thing, but when you're training from ZERO, and you see improvement all the time, it's just a nice high. :-P

I learned to NOT diminish, put-down, second guess, or critique negatively my ability/performance after Suzy got ahold of me last week. I think I limped around for a day or two with phantom pains in my rear - my husband said it looked like I was missing a nice chunk from my left butt cheek. LOL! But seriously...she is absolutely 100% correct. My habit of putting myself and my accomplishments/abilities stops now. At the age of 44. It's tremendously liberating.

Queenie (my term of endearment for you) - One day you are going to start running and not stop. Seriously. I couldn't run more than 7-8 minutes at a time one day, and two days later I ripped-off an entire two miles and still felt like I could go further. It's strange....it's like there's a barrier that once crossed allows you to make tremendous improvement in endurance, statistically-wise. Or I could just be talking out of my a$$, but I really think I'm onto something with my hypothesis.

Anyway, good luck with your bicycle seat issues, and you'll be running a 5K in no time.....(hope ya like the purple font

ATTENTION ALL LONESTAR PARTICIPANTS:  11 1/2 WEEKS TO GO - WHERE IS YOUR FITNESS LEVEL????

I think I'm right on track, but then again I don't know much about where I'm supposed to be so I can only speculate. At this point I feel comfortable swimming 300 yards non-stop, cycling isn't an issue, and I am steadily increasing my run - right now I'm at 2.2 miles comfortably. I will increase my run up to 2.45 miles next week, and so on.

I hope to be able to swim at least 600 yards non-stop and run at least 4 miles non-stop before Lonestar. We'll see if I get there....

I really love waking up to great news with the MG!

Paul--really great job on the running.  Can I ask how old you are? were you all out at a HR of 194?

Trina and DJ--two cheers for you for the attitude shift AND the weight loss.  Both are going to make you forces on the courses!

Another rough day at the Shain household, a run, an elliptical, a swim, a visit to my mom and a party tonight! WOW, I'm exhausted.  I did pick up some more work from my primary client, but that won't happen until I get back from Hawaii and even it will be way less than what the vast majority of you do  daily. (except for Roni of course ).

PS For a minute second I felt bad that Trina was dragging around after her tongue lashing from me, but I shook it off pretty quickly since she she is happy now and making tons of progress.....those "PEP" talks are done with love ya know!

I'm a little behind on the MG reading.  School and work have kept me off the boards.  I'll try to catch up by tomorrow.

Wow 169 and zone 2. My heart rate doesn't get much higher than 169 ever.  Probably has something to do with the age group I participate in.
