Inaccuweather is always so fricken wrong I want it to show rain, wind, maybe a passing hurricane or two, then it will most likely end up being nice.  A nice weather forecast now means were in for some bad weather.

If you weren't aware the 2009 information booklet is online now at:

http://www.beach2battleship.com/files/2009%20EVENT%20BOOKLET.pdf

After reading through it I still don't understand how the buddy pass works, does anyone know for certain?

The booklet states that someone with the buddy pass can pick up your equipment and the booklet uses the term "after the event"  Now does that mean after I finish or can the wife pick up my bike and junk after I finish the bike and I'm out on the run.  The forum on the B2B site made it sound like it was while I'm on the run, but the booklet doesn't read that way to me.  Being my first IM I don't have a clue but not having to deal with that stuff after I finish would be real nice.

It also sounds like there is NO BAG #6 and what ever you put in bag #1 at the swim start will be what you'll have at the finish.

So I am late to the thread party....someone catch me up!  Are we all going to try and meet for dinner sometime.....swim on Friday?

I raced this event last year and have a few pointers about the course I am happy to share.  I am staying at the Sun Spree and may end up being there by myself (could be a long, and painful ride back to GA on Sunday!).

Love to meet up with my BT Friends.....Brown Dog, are you still racing?

Looks like at least a few of us are going to try to meet Thurs night at the athlete's dinner and then others for an early dinner Fri night....  I be up for a swim Fri am---so we can start that meet tooTongue out  Oh yeah and I few are "planning" on the cruise on Sunday (most depend on weather/feeling/desire to begin long, painful drive home alone---I'm with you on that!!).......

I'm in.  We are staying somewhere near UNC Willmington.  It looks like it is half way between the downtown and the beach.

I was trying to figure out a time to swim but with the way the tides are working would have to swim part of the
course in a reverse direction, I was kinda of curious what the current might feel like.

Does anyone know where we could put in and swim somewhat safely for a quick swim
on Friday?

Here's the tides listed for Masonboro Inlet. I have a basic understanding of the tides, but not sure at what time
on Friday would be good for a swim. Since we start 2:55 after low tide on race morning, if we swim in reverse
direction would 3 hours after high tide give one a good idea on how the current may feel? Or is the current different
from low or high tides?

Th 5 Low 2:21 AM
5 High 8:58 AM
5 Low 3:30 PM
5 High 9:17 PM

I have no idea about currents or tides, but my guess is that the tide starts to rise after low tide. On Friday would the tide not start to come in bewteen 3:10am and peaking at 9:49am? If that is the case you would not need to swim in a reverse direction.
Again I have no clue on how tides actually work, but that just seems like the logical thing for it to do.

I am a little slow when it comes to some things (swimming, biking, running) but I can not find the link to download the medical form as stated on the B2B site:

"All participants must submit a completed medical form before collecting any event materials(Medical from may be found on the Beach2Battleship web site and will also be mailed out in thefinal B2B Participant Newsletter"

Can someone help me out. Thanks in advance. BTW I will be turning 42 y.o. on race day and will have my running visor adorned with birthday candles by my 2 girls; not lit of course. I'm  looking forward to this weekend. Doing the half.

I was planning on using a sleeveless wetsuit or  even a speedsuit for the B2B half swim. I am on a relay so just doing the swim. I did the YMCA Wilmington sprint 1 mile swim and u fly through the course with the current so not going to be in the water for long

I'm pretty sure all members of a relay need the medical form. And, the water is way way colder now than it was for wilmington, so if you have a wetsuit, you will be very glad you wore it!

If you want to swim a section of the course in reverse, there is a sandy beach just in front of the Blockade Runner, and you can swim south to Masonboro Inlet. The other option is to swim to where the half starts, there is a small beach there as well, just south of the water tower. This area is harder for me to pick out though while swimming. There is parking along the ICW, but you will have to walk back to the start of your swim. Just be carful and wear a bright colored swim cap, or swim with others and hug the docks. We normally stash an old pair of shoes where we come out at. I wouldn't recommend swimming across banks channel, unless it is real early in the morning, or if you have a follower on a surfboard, kayak, or boat.

Hope this helps.

If you have a swim noodle laying around your garage, make a 'Safety noodle'. I bet beach stores sell them year round!

Music to my ears!!!

So I woke up this morning with severe chest congestion, a cough and a runny nose.

Went into the doctor first thing and he said I have an upper respiratory infection. He gave me a zpack and said come back in five days and he'll give me another one if it's not healed.

I am currently living in total fear of all the bugs going around!  With a 2nd grader and 5th grader our house is a hotbed of germs!!

I made my first of many lists last night - clothing.  I am going to take the time to change clothes after the swim & wear a bathing suit under my wetsuit.  I have wetsuit booties (as much for the cold air when we get out as anything else, when I have on my wetsuit I don't use my legs anyway!) and am going to wait and see on the neoprine cap (I have one, but if it stays upper 60's in the h20 I'll be fine w/ 2 caps) Even if it's in the 50's when we get on the bike I'd rather take the 2 min. to change into dry clothes than be cold for my first hour!  From there I'm going w/ layers - bike jersey & arm warmers & light vest w/ a throw away long sleve shirt ontop if it's low 50's or below.  Toe covers for sure  - I HATE having cold feet!!

Hmmm - what else can I list - I love making lists during taper!!

Yeah I think my wife and kids are happy that I've been working for the last 5 days straight---since both my little ones have/had H1N1...gotta love all the stuff they bring home from school!!!  I'm beyond paranoid about it at this point---and to top it off I ended up at the hospital on Sat night during work because they thought I might have broken a bone in my hand---yeah I was thrilled to be in the ER waiting room with all these people with masks and complaining of the flu!!!!

Sooo anyways---who's up for a swim Fri am??  I'm just looking to get in the water and paddle around a little just to get wet....location/time??

That's all I'd like to get in too and Friday morning would work great as I'd like to hit the first meeting at noon and then dump my bike and T1 and T2 bags off soon after then I'll veg out the rest of the day.

I've never been to the area so I could swim the channel where the course will be or if it's a little to dangerous with boat traffic, I'd be all for an ocean swim.  I haven't had a chance to do an OWS in quite sometime due to our cold and nasty fall weather.

OK so sounds like we have a Fri am swim group---I also have no idea about the area so maybe Carol or James can chime in with a good point for us to get in....and we need to pick a time (like the idea of a dry wetsuit Sat am/make the first meeting/dump stuff after...)

Alright...Swim on Friday Morning.

Heres what we did last year.

Someone needs to leave a car or truck at the marina and then ride back to the Blockade Runner.  We can then do a group swim to the marina (about 30 minutes) to test the water and the current.  If we start around 7:45 it will be about the same time when you hit this section of the course Saturday Morning.  I am thinking my friend who is traveling with me to the race will car pool us back to the Blockade.

Is everyone up for meeting around 7:15 at The Blockade?

I am also planning on a 15' Bike/Run Brick Friday afternoon if anyone cares to join me after lunch.

GOD PLEASE DON'T LET ME GET SICK OVER THE NEXT 12 DAYS!

I'll join you for the bike/run. I'm going to need to get in the water at some point Friday but likely won't be in twon from Raleigh early enough on Friday to make the group swim.

Hey who's staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree?
