Newtons1st - 2009-12-18 9:51 AM Sorry to let you down on some on my missed posts Justin, wont happen again.

Hey now I ran when it was 4 degrees and 10" of snow out. The grizzly adams get up is gone now.

KelliD - 2009-12-17 1:28 PM It's about time you showed up to the party!!!  Working in WI....no excuse!

Newtons1st - 2009-12-17 1:58 PM Holy cow a few days working in the middle of Wisconsin and there are 12 pages. I have been repremanded by EvD to get a bio up. I am at milwaukee airport now and will post when I get back and catch up. Excited about the new group.

Nice grizzly adams ninja burglar look you got workin' there!  I didn't even recognize you! You look alot different in a speedo while riding on an inner-tube and drinking copious amounts of beer while trying to get arrested!

Kudos for you gettin' out in it & runnin'!  More than what I (have/would've) done!

trying1 - 2009-12-16 3:44 PMI'm totally psyched, I might be buying a new/used computrainer for $650.  My friend's friend bought them for his company and he unfortunately got fired for it but is now selling them.  I'm told they've only been used 4-5 times.  I'll know for sure by Sunday.  If I do get it does anyone want to buy a slightly used cycleops fluid 2 trainer?
I wish I had read this sooner
If you're referring to the cycleops trainer, I can let you know hopefully by Sunday or Monday if it's available for sale.
I was! but it looks like Santa has one hiding somewhere in the house.

Nice!  sounds like your Santa rocks!

Trin2bfast - 2009-12-17 9:53 AMI know I am not the oldest in this group... like the first go round with evondo & company... but my youngest son is celebrating his 13th birthday today.  He is a teenager!  Yeah, I am officially feeling kinda old! lol!  For those with young ones ~ enjoy it (although I don't envy you) cause these little rug-rats grow up too dadgum fast!

I am trying to get in what ever 'exercise' I can for the next week... once Christmas has come & gone... I will be able to return to some sense of normalcy and get to work on TRI SEASON 2010!  The year of the PR!  And from the way this group is shaping up, it would appear that PR's will be littered all across this land...  Way to go EvD's MG!!!
Happy B.Day to your boy! My eldest son turns 18 today- yep! I might be the eldest of the group.

Happy B.day to him as well!  All I have to say is... Old Guys Rule!   No better pleasure than passing a youngster and seeing their age on the calf... and it's significantly younger than I!  Puts a little pep in your step!       **Shut up Nicole!**

This afternoon I might be heading to the gym after work, that is if nothing else comes up. My oldest boy turned 18 so we are having his friends over for a pizza partay and probably a sleep over (8 of them usually)- they all huddle downstairs in the basement.Between tonight and all day tomorrow the weather guys are forecasting anywhere from 2 to 8 inches. Not much but enough to blanket us for a while. If it bad I might not have to go to work Saturday and I'll end up with a four day in a row off. We'll see how things go and I am sure I'll get in a workout here and there and in between somewhere.Have a great weekend everyone.thomas

GoFaster - 2009-12-18 10:57 AM A sick little girl is not cooperating with my sleep patterns at the moment, so I blew off another trainer ride this morning - that makes 5 days in a row.  At least I'm consistent!

When I bought my bike I didn't have a proper fit done and ended up getting a 60cm Trek, I chose that over the 58cm.  I went into another shop and was talking to the guy, and he said I should have been looking at a 54-56cm frame (I'm 6').  But then he did a couple of quick measurements on their fit stand.  Based on my Torso I should be on a 54, based on my inseam I should be on a 60 - I'm all legs.

When I got clip on bars I went to an independent fit guy, and feel quite comfortable on the bike.  What did I learn for the whole experience?  I'd probably be best suited to a custom frame, like a Guru.  But that's for another lifetime.

Neil, sorry you're not getting any sleep this week.  I hear you on the custom frame!  I'm 5'10" with a 34" inseam.  None of the women's geometry bikes fit me and I wound up on a 58" Specialized Roubaix Comp with clip-ons.  They pushed the 56 but I actually felt more comfortable on the 58.  The LBS really worked on the fit and it's probably as good as it gets.  Am thinking about a tri-bike next year and hoping I can find one with geometry that works better for me.

Today is a rest day - so - Pre-drink with my wife and her girlfriends before they go out for Christmas cheer, finish christmas shopping tomorrow after I get a swim in. Birthday party tomorrow night, Sunday will be ride/run, whichever has a co-ed on the machine beside or in front of it. (love the college rec centre!!)
evondo - 2009-12-18 7:42 AM Happy Friday everyone!

What do you guys/gals have planned for this weekend?

Betsy and I have an open bar christmas party this evening which should be interesting and a long run tomorrow at some point. Hopefully get to catchup on some of the work I've been slacking on recently too

Thanks to everyone for being active in the thread, keep the questions/comments coming! If you haven't already, start heckling/inspiring each other on the TLs it's a great way to stay motivated knowing other people are watching.

Thanks for the sympathy - our kids get sick very infrequently, so I really can't complain.  It's just been one of those weeks, so hopefully next week things will start to calm down a little as we gear up for Xmas.

I'd love to move up to a Tri bike next year, but with buying a new house, there's no way that's in the budget.  However, I'm pushing for the wired Powertap, and that one might just come to fruition at the beginning of the new year.

A friend bought a Guru, and the bike is gorgeous, and because the frame is completely custom he finds it fits him like a glove.

I'm headed to the gym this afternoon since it's raining and a very toasty 39 degrees outside. Besides that I really don't have any plans for the weekend. I may try to go horseback riding which should be interesting since I haven't ridden in 9 months but it'll definitely be the highlight of my weekend if I can get out to the barn. I'm probably going to go running Sunday sometime if the weather gets better. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and keep up the good work on your training!!

Went to the gym at lunch time and got my ST in. I'll have to swap my run on Sunday to tomorrow due to a forecasted snowstorm. Unfortunately that means running tomorrow morning in 15 degree weather.. Lovely New England.

I really need to go xmas shopping this weekend, that's my main goal. Xmas party Saturday night and recovery on Sunday.

Just got off the phone with a friend who said Justin (Houstonrider) was hit by a car today while biking.  As far as I know he's ok but adrenaline is pumping and will probably be hurting pretty bad tomorrow. The a-hole driver apparently didn't stop to help out or anything either...

Justin- Relax and rest up, I know when I was side swiped (not badly hurt either) it was the next few days that hurt the most.  When you finally get to a computer, let us know how you're doing.

Well it happened....... I was riding down 528 having a great ride, 22 miles into my 90 minute ride and cruising between 20 and 21mph when an on coming car decided to turn in front of me to go into the Kroger parking lot. All I saw was it's tire then him trying slow as I swerved around his front end. I then felt his bumper on my leg as I slid down his hood and then went over the handle bars when my front tire hit the curb. I went over the handle bars still clipped in and luckily landed in grass. Instantly my left leg cramped up and I couldn't unclip. I watched the car slow down, then proceed to leave. At this point I didn't even think to look for his tag numbers. In the end I have a cracked fork or cracked wheel, don't know which but the bike makes a creaking noise when weight is on the front tire and the wheel is turned.

I guess on the bright side it happened early in the season and still gives me time to get things repaired.

Justin - sending Healing Thoughts your way!!!! I do hope it's not serious. First, hope you are all in one piece.  Assuming that, hope your bike is also intact.  Any driver that doesn't stop after hitting a biker has a special spot reserved in He11.

Get well soon!

Oh no!  Houstonrider I hope you're all right and get better quickly!

As for the rest of you- I can't keep up with 5 pages of posts a day.  LOL.

Todd, welcome back.

NRG- have you ever ridden on aerobars before?  If not, take it really easy on turns and descents at first.  I LOVE riding on mine, but they are a little... twitchy.  Balancing can take some getting used to.  If you're coming off a mountain bike and onto a tri bike, just be careful at first.

Kelli- I'm back now so you won't be able to get away with that half-way crap.  You promised to look around for a picture.  I think you should look around for one this weekend while you're out on a hot date with manboy and your camera.    Plus, you HAVE to give us more info or else we can't come up with an appropriate nickname.  I don't think you want manboy to stick, do you?

As for me this weekend, my schedule kind of makes me want to cry.  Tonight xmas party, tomorrow we're going to husbands xmas party which is at this fancy resort in Orlando.  It's a black tie affair so I can't get too overzealous at the open bar.  Woudln't want to fall off my 4" Manolos.   We're staying the night in Orlando tomorrow night and then hitting the outlets for some last minute xmas shopping on our way back into Tampa.

Then the usaul Sunday night routine involving laundry, cleaning and chris packing to go back out of town.

So in terms of training... optomistically I will run tomorrow morning and do a few miles on the trainer Sunday night... but realisticaly I'm probably going to be a fat lazy drunk until Monday.

Everyone have a fabulous and safe weekend and I'll see you bright and early Monday morning.

Thanks for all your well wishes. The police just left my house, with a description of the car, but I must say I made a horrible victim/witness and couldn't provide much detail. It is a small town and if the car has damage maybe the person will turn up.
