It is called the Hampster Endurance Run in Bellingham, Washington.  It is actually a 12 hour race around a 2.5 mile loop circling Lake Padden.  I did this race as my first ultra last year completing 50 miles in 11:45.  I am hoping to do 52.5 miles this year.

Wow, several of you already over 1000! That is impressive, not so sure about the 50 milers though, that seems excessive! Especially 12hrs in a 2.5 mile loop, how do you keep yourself from going loopy?

I continue to trudge along, my run miles have continued to drop off as I get closer to my Sept. Tri but I just cannot seem to make time for everything. July was the 1st time in 9 months I did not break 100, but I have managed to keep the daily running streak going and have ran everyday since thanksgiving so a good streak. Still not sure if I will make it to a full year but that is the goal.

currently I am sittin around 765 miles for the year, which should put me over the top around the end of October. I am hoping to sign up for the OBX half in November so that wil give me the motivation to keep moving through September and October!

How is your running going so far this year?  Lots of time left.

You know the story the tortoise and the hare... We'll the tortoise passed me already. Fell off the wagon, and can't get back on. 1000 miles seems impossible at this point when I am at 507 and falling more behind by the day.

Good luck to the rest of you....

Sorry everyone for this post. I am having a really down week and wrote this when I was not in the right mindset. I do apologize and will avoid this in the future.

Sorry to hear you are having a down week.  I think we all do at some point.  I can almost guarantee that if you go out and do a couple of miles you will feel better (assuming you aren't injured).  Let us know how it goes.

Well as a graduate student, I decided to ring in the new year with only focusing on my comps exam. It's a big step in my career here so I dropped my training for 5 months and passed just fine (yay!). However I do very much regret halting my running (I had not started triathlon training yet) and to top it off I had a stupid running accident 2 weeks into getting back to running this year (ligament over stretch). So it's been a whirlwind of a journey to get back into running this year but after letting my injury heal for 1.5 months I have been making good process and hope to get back to my HM pace by then end of the year. I am only doing an oly so the 6 miles should be rather straightforward so I've been focusing my attention to the biking and swimming. I haven't looked at my years total for running but I'd be happy to hit a couple hundred by the end of the year. Dealing with the injury and the timing of it was very difficult but I have really made the best of my racing year and could not be happier (if not to have encountered the injury in the first place haha). Sorry for all of the details but I'll keep taking it easy mile/pace wise until I know I am completely clear of my ankle injury and look forward to more focused running in 2015

Don't ever feel bad about posting when you are down. We all feel that way some times and isolation from like-minded people won't make it better. Stay in the challenge, do what you can do, and have fun.

Welcome, ChemNerd.

WTG to all of the ones that have passed the 1000 mile mark.

Mary, great job on the 11 min PR.

Back from vaca. Playing at Busch Gardens, beach, zoo, Ybor City, aquarium, and museum as well as ferrying my 16 y.o. around kept me from everyday training but managed to barely stay ahead of the rabbit (well after my 11 mile run this morn.)

Rabbit is at 624.66 today.

Mid August Check in puts me at 606.6 miles year-to-date. Getting awful close to that pesky rabbit. Might have passed him if I didn't slack off for a week, but work was too busy to get anything in. Poor timing, only a three weeks out from my HIM.

Managed to get my running back on track this past week, while away on vacation, but my biking slipped, so that is two poor bike weeks in a row. Again, timing stinks for slacking off, but this week looks like a great time to get everything back on track.

Great work on all of those already passing a 1000 miles... seems hard to fathom.

I look forward to reading about everyone's accomplishments. Y'all are a motivating bunch. Thank you for that!!!

Got a nice bump in miles yesterday.  Did my 12 hour race and got in almost 55 miles.  I am really sore today though.

Hi everyone!  Great job to all!  I hit 500 miles with my IM (wooooot!) 3 weeks ago, but ended up with some tendinitis so have been on the sidelines since.  I did a 20 min run on Saturday and all was well, so hopefully will be able to get back at 'er shortly here.

Pops, that is awesome, a 5 mile jump from last year, right?  Great work!  Man, I can bet you are sore!  Take it easy for a few days, you deserve it.

Congrats on your ultra, read the report sounds like you had a great race.

In taper madness here.  Have a marathon on Saturday, then I'm on the final stretch for my first 50 miler in Sept.  Getting nervous here!

Awesome! Sounds fun! How long are your long runs typically while training for a 50 miler?

I'm at 1831 so I am more or less on track for 3K miles by the end of the year. We shall see though.

Here is my Race Report for the 10K Regional Championship. I am slowwwly getting back into shape but I think I established an excellent baseline to start marathon training.

I did not train specifically for this but relied on my cumulative fitness which in the last year has been more about frequency and intensity than duration.  In talking to folks there who were more specifically dedicated to this stuff, long runs of 20+ and a lot of back to back days doing 20 milers.  Also two a days to get the greater volume in.  No way one could do this and swim/bike.

As a side note, I am still sore with the HM tomorrow morning.  I've swam and ridden this week no problem but the legs are still recovering.  My expectations are such that if a cold one or two or ... presents itself tonight than so be it.  If worst comes to worst I might jog along with my wife who is running also.  Might not be a bad idea since I haven't told her yet I'm doing an HIM in three weeks.

Oh, and Adrienne, your mileage is incredible.  Can't wait to hear how your Fall racing goes.

My longest run has been 35 miles.  And will be my longest run before the race.  I have quite a few 20+ mile runs, which are pretty easy to recover from now.  Only takes a day or so until I feel good again after that distance.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
