Originally posted by StaceyK I had such a great Birthday yesterday that I just have to tell you all about it. My birthday normally slides by in a very low key way, which I don't mid eat all but turning 40 yesterday turned into a fairly EPIC thing (sorry Chris). When I got to work the girls had "redecorated" my office while I was out on Wednesday. It had streamers and posters and the floor was covered with balloons. It was great. I then went to morning worship which we have everyday and which I was rostered to take. After I had finished they brought out chocolate mud cake so we all had cake at 8:30 in the morning. Which was great. After coffee and cake Kaileen went home sick (she had only come in to say happy birthday and get a look at my reaction to my office. It was great that she came in but not great that she was sick. I then got flowers from Phil which never ever happens and the card said "dinner is arranged for 7 dress fancy" of course I then had a panic about what to wear. So of course I had to call him to try and get more information out of him. He wouldn't tell me where we were going. Just that I had to dress better than if I was going to show dogs at the royal. Ok I can do that. But the control freak in me was not liking the not knowing. I got more flowers from my MIL. which was great. Even when I was getting dressed Phil still wouldn't say where we were going. "Just get in the car and stop asking". It turns out that we went to one of the fancy restaurants at the casino. As we walked into the foyer the guy at the piano starting to sing happy birthday to me. Which was embarrassing, but it was great too. And when I looked over there was my mum and my sisters and Kaileen and Andy. Which truely was EPIC! My mum and sisters had driven for 8 hours (one way) to come and have dinner with us. During dinner they informed me that they were kidnapping me for a couple of days and that I am to report to Kaileen's this morning at 8:30 with an over night bag. They won't say anything more.

How absolutely, positively wonderful!!!  Happy belated birthday!

So CUUUUUTE! I am in hopeless cat withdrawl and have been scratching the ears of every cat in Luang Prabang. Need to head home to my own fur children before I give myself fleas or rabies or something!

This part of the board is less active on the weekend because everyone is out doing things!

Welcome to the pod Mary.  I've been following along your swim progress.  You're doing great.

It is quieter on the weekend around as this is such an active group.  I'm just having a cup of coffee and a poptart before heading out for a 14 miler.  It is a perfect Fall day.  I will be in leaf heaven on the tree lined trail.

My marathon build is going great.  I'll get 40+ miles this week on 5 runs.  Normally I'm a big fan of frequency and average closer to 6 runs a week but I'm finding it to be more advantageous to get my miles in with fewer but longer runs.  My last marathons have not been great after 20 miles because of durability not fitness.  The longer runs past 6 miles are making me more durable.  This week is 7,6,8,14,6 with two intense trainer sessions just to keep bike strength.

Welcome Mary! I love cats. We have three which is pretty much cat lady status. Fun facts, all three of them can high five, one of them learned how to use the toilet WITHOUT us teaching him.

I'm glad to hear that your marathon build is going well. :-D  Vegas will be So Much Fun!  Is DW going with you as well?

Last year, when I did the RnR half marathon, we went to Zion for a long day trip.  It was great!  We'd been there before but it's one of those places that does not disappoint!  Kevin rented a mountain bike from Bike Blast (http://bikeblastlasvegas.com/) and they delivered it to the hotel (and picked it up afterward). From there, he was able to load it in the rental and go out to Red Rocks.

What a great birthday weekend! I'm glad that they made is special!

P.S. I always have stollen for my birthday breakfast.  I don't think that a lot of people can say that

I'm back from the Tuna Run.  I have to process the experience a bit before I can write about it.

Two 15 passenger vans.

12 runners and two drivers.

Perhaps 3 hours of sleep in 30 hours.

200 miles covered.

We didn't lose any runners (at least not in my van).  I think that's a win!

Hi dear Manatees!  Before you harass me about it, DH is typing this for me! Sorry I can't catch up on all of the happenings.  Hope you are all well & I miss you lots.

Update on my status: I've been off work since 10/6 because I can't read or do computer work without a major headache and nausea.  Doctor says it could take another couple of months to resolve.  In the meantime, I'm back to riding on my trainer and running some. I've also been deep cleaning the house -- it hasn't been this clean in years! -- and doing tons of badly needed yard work.  I tried swimming Friday and ended up retching after 300 yards so that is on hold for a while.

I've been really struggling with two things: boredom because I can't read and fear of falling and getting hurt again. So I have two questions for you. One, any suggestions for things I can do when I am bored that don't involve reading, screens or back and forth eye motion (or eating or napping!!); and two, how have you overcome your fear of getting hurt after a major bike crash or other traumatic incident?  Please PM me your thoughts as I can't read the forum. I promise I'll have DH read your messages and type my responses.

Many thanks for all of the inspires, they really help me not feel so isolated.  (((hugs))) to you all.

ETA: I would love a synopsis of the major happenings amongst the Pod, if somebody is up for trying to do that.

Looking down the shoreline towards Chicago. Colors everywhere the entire path today. Picture really doesn't show it well. Apparently there was some sort of sailboat event going on as there was a ton of them out in the water by the city.

DW does not like Vegas so I'm going with my brother and a few friends.  They are all going to run the HM.  Tough part will be getting in the day before and getting some rest the night before.  They are all high rollers and will probably see less sleep then you did on the Tuna Run.  It will be an interesting weekend.

Lots going on with the pod and I'm a bit overwhelmed to try and respond to all the awesomeness right now!

Our race got rained out Sunday (it literally didn't stop raining all weekend here). Guess I'm going to be over rested for the HIM this coming weekend.

Happy Monday Pod!  I survived my race!  Here is the race report.  It contains the long version of the race.  The short version is I didn't die and managed to place 3d in my AG.  Hope everyone had a great weekend.
