HIM question:  a few pages back John mentioned that he did all of IMTX in 400 mile De Soto bibs.   For those of you that do HIMs, do you go the distance with the same trisuit (or whatever) or do you change to running shorts/shirt in T2?

For full and 1/2 Ironman's I never changed... One outfit from start (pre swim) to finish (arms in the air!).

gotta run - 2011-07-13 12:42 AM

David - Sounds like a great week! Do you have a soft flat trail you can run on for your 50 min run? I'd avoid pavement and hills, or just substitute a bike or swim

Thanks Julia, did a short barefoot beach run at lunchtime and legs feels ok. Just one more run before the HM now...!

Same outfit for HIMs (my transitions are slow enough).  I changed into bike shorts after the swim and then into compression shorts for the run.   I plan to do the same thing this year.

I feel like summer is flying by....time to talk about our upcoming race plans.  Who has some fun on the calendar this weekend?  I think there are at least three of us!

Half marathon for me, I'm feeling strong but not as fit as when I was dividing my time equally between S/B/R.

I'm looking forward to getting back into tri training next week but also a bit excited about Sundays run.

My wife and 3 kids are all doing the 3k (much to the disgust of my eldest (13yrs))

Doing my first road race.  It's very hilly, I plan on getting dropped early.  It will be race #10 so I can technically upgrade to Cat 4 but will be waiting for the end of the season for that.

I'll be riding my very first bike road race this saturday.  A very short 26.2 miles (its 2 laps of a HM course), very flat and should be VERY fast pending on the wind conditions.  Starts at 0600!  It's still dark that early here... hoping they hold the start for some daylight.

i'd be bit surprised if changing clothes is even an option.

No race but I do have my first century ride.  Yikes!!  I didn't do as much last week as I would have liked but we'll see how it goes.

Sprint tri at the same place I did my last one.  Hopefully a confidence boosting experience and I'd like to improve on my time.  My son is also racing again.  Maybe he can forgo the leaf this time.  I better check in w/ him about his nutrition plan.  ;-)

So the changing tents I hear about show up at the full IMs only.   Good to know.

x2! Even with the arms in the air!!

I always bike in tri shorts and running in them is fine, too.

I have an Oly on Sunday.  The weather dudes changed their forecast today and are calling for highs in the low 90s.

Musselman Triathlon half iron on Sunday!  Wave 1 at 7am.  Also, Kris is scheduled to do the sprint on Saturday and Tommy is geared up to do the kids race on Saturday afternoon.

Been a little crazy here lately.  My father in law passed away Friday night.  He had esophagus cancer a few years ago and seemed to respond well to treatment but started going downhill in the last several weeks.  He was with us at the Jersey Shore over 4th of July weekend and looked terrible.  He went home Monday, went to the hospital on Tuesday and they said the cancer had spred to his abdomen.  Kris went down to the hospital Thursday so she got to spend a little time with him before he passed.  Great guy.  Cared about nothing except family and friends...put them far above anything else.  Funeral was yesterday.  Tough times - at only 63 he was way too young.

With all that, Kris is undecided about doing the sprint on Saturday.

As for me, would like to be better trained but I will take it as a learning experience for my first time at this distance.  With good training I feel like I should be able to go sub 6 hours so I will still keep that as my goal.  Thinking about flying Julia out to do it in 5:30 for me!!!

Good luck to all the other racers.  It is going to be a big MG weekend!

George

Count me in as a racer this weekend!  Second time doing Racine 70.3 and it looks like the weather will be exactly the same, cold water (50s) and hot air (90s).  Bring it on!  Have a very different strategy this time around, thus the title of my blog for the next several days.  Let's see if I can meet expectations!

Good luck to everyone else.  I'll be thinking about you and your family George.

George - I'm so sorry about your father in law. You and Kris have been in my thoughts all week. I'm glad you're still going to race, and I hope Kris will, too. Give it all you've got, and enjoy every minute of it!

Vineman 70.3 for me (and Linda).  Looks like we are lucking out with weather this week...water temps in low-mid 70's and air temps kind of similar!

Goal is to test my nutrition...and get to the run in shape to actually run.  Excited for the weekend!

Good luck to all the racing peeps, we west coasters will still be on the course while the rest of you are basking in your glory.  Have fun out there and remember how lucky we are to get to do this stuff!  Stay positive and race with your mind, body and heart in the moment!
