Happy Valentine's Day to the MG!

I took my new bike out today for the bike segment of my training plan....first time for real.  It felt great!  I am still getting comfortable with it, and also to the speed.  I got it up to 20mph or so and felt...whoa, better ease back.  I guess the speed comes with more confidence in handling, braking, etc.  I am really glad I got the clipless pedals now as I was getting a feel for the push and pull with the pedals today and could tell how much more power I can get without that must more effort.....very cool!

It was only a 30 minute ride in the neighborhood and a on trail along the bayou.  Great day to be outside today with sun and mild temperatures.

Now to get ready for the work week....no holiday for me tomorrow....

Whew, we had almost 10 boys age 5-6 here today for my son's 6th birthday party.  With all the snow, most had been cooped up inside for a week or so.

We survived.

Time to drink.

Great job training this weekend everyone...I'm jealous

Sounds like everyone is getting some training in despite the weather, Olympics and the "holiday." I did get some laundry done and found a very nice Merlot.    We all measure our success' in different ways.

New bikes, new distances and new achievements....very proud of my MG buddies.

Steve

Sounds like everyone had a productive weekend.  In my quest to get back to calling myself a runner, I did 47 minutes of running and 13 minutes of walking, covered about 5.7 miles.  It was longer than I was supposed to go, but it was so very hard to stop at 1 hour.    Been doing my 20 minute mandatory swims each day, in the pool ,but hope to get back to testing the ocean tomorrow or when we hit calmer waters in Kauai.  Tomorrow is our last full day in Maui and so far I am supposed to be drinking a Chi-Chi, Lava Flow and Mai Tai before I leave....I think I am a little behind. .  Going to our favorite Bohemian Organic Text/Mexish type restaurant for an early dinner so hope to cross one of these off the list.

Enjoy the Olys tonight!

Name of restaurant? We're likely heading to Maui in August... When we are there we each fish tacos at least one meal/day, it seems. I can't get enough of 'em! Test out the ocean! You'll need that skill when you qualify for Kona, baby!!

Hey guys!  Thought I'd check in quick while I have some time.  Sounds like everyone's having a good weekend.  Mine's gone pretty well too.  I had a great 8.2 mile run yesterday at the park (so glad I went there instead of settling for the TM).  I went out to do 8 laps - the loop at the park is about 1.1 miles - ended up doing 7.5.  I didn't check my watch until I finished and I couldn't believe the time when I saw it Surprised.  I can usually maintain an 11:16 pace for maybe 4 miles but not for 8!  Quite surprised by that.

I had a good swim this morning too.  Tried a new drill - right arm/left arm only using a pull buoy.  It was harder than I expected.  I kept wanting to bring my opposite arm back like a normal stroke.  I think the drills are helping though so I'm going to keep doing them (even though I feel kind of silly at timesSmile).

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Well after 14 hours in the car yesterday, I am home and trying to catch up with life.  I took off the day today, and even got in a 3 hour "nap" I am still recovering my energy from vacation.  I am busy putting a blog together with lots of pics from vacation.  It was wild and boy did I get some extreme skiing in.  It was a good trip.  Very excited to give my wife a right hand ring since we got engaged in CO 3 years ago.  I searched the Twin Cities high and low trying to find it, and finally did about 2 days before leaving

Happy Valentine's Day to all and.......Happy Chinese New Year's!!!!  It is the year of the tiger and GGGGGRRRRRR, let's all make this year a roaring good year!

Doug, Amazing and awesome job doing your 18.45 on the Treadmill...talk about mental toughness, you are going to rock that marathon

Steve, you will be back to good form in NO time at all...I hear PT is painful, but you've got the goals out there to keep you focused.

Janet!  way to go on 8 miles at your 4 mile pace!!!  So proud of you

Suzy, you are making me so jealous....LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HAWAII, every island, we are going in May and I simply cannot wait!

jvanis- wonderful gift of love for your wife....that is just...touching!

Anyone else think the women's moguls last night were just incredible!?  I stayed up late (first time in a looooong time) to watch and was just so glad I did.  the bronze medal winner was just such a great Sportswoman, just great for all of us to remember...when someone tops your effort, you have just GOT to give them props!

Why am I so excited?  Well, I think I am riding the adrenaline of getting my 2600 yd swim in and 30 minutes later doing my 11.5 mile long run on tired legs at pretty nice pace!

Okay, off to finish making dinner.

I also have a big buzz for a "few" glasses of wine and am eating a cupcake leftover from my son's party.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS - Tony wants to know if anyone is wearing their HR monitor to bed for a "workout" later except John b/c we know he wears his every night to bed.

Milagros is a little off the beaten path, but worth the trip if you want some really terrific food and margaratis. The town has gotten a little busier, but still very eclectic and fun.  We are nearly an hour away for Pauai and still go there everytime we are in Maui.  Good stop if you are going to the road to Hana or even Haleakala State Park.

Good morning everyone.  Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day.  Every year I forget how expensive this holiday really is!  Trying to catch up a little here:

Kyla:  Any word on the CT?  I never received a response back.

Barry:  Is that the guy you were talking about drafting off of you?

Dave:  I agree with John.  You are getting faster.  Obviously a different breed, but my Jack Russell is seven and is wide open, 24/7!  Oh and nice run!

Steve:  Best of luck with you surgery.  Hang in there and just as everyone else has been saying, take is easy and be paitient.  We'll be thinking about you.

Doug:  Great run!  Your running has really come along way during the past year.

Kelly:  Nice 4 miler!  How are you feeling today?

Suzy:  I'm so jealous.  You are not making my vacation get here any faster!  I do only have about nine weeks though!  Eat a few fish tacos for me!

Glen:  Glad to hear you are enjoying your new toy!

Janet:  Great run and swim!  I haven't been outside for a run in a few weeks.  It looks like the rain is going to stop here around noon, so I'll get out then.  TM is sooooooooo boring.

Trevor:  Awesome run!  Congratulations on your PB.

I'm trying to get my mileage back up and getting there.  I had a killer bike workout on Saturday that totally fried my legs!  I have a feeling this is going to be a tiring week.  Lot's of training is in store.  Hope everyone has a great week.

***********VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION**********

Which of the Canadian (or geographically close enough) MG friends will get me a pair of the red Olympic Canadian mittens?   I'm serious!  If you can hook me up let me know and I'll send some $ your way.  They are the cutest!

Glad to see everyone had some great breakthroughs with their training this weekend. Congrats.

Kim - I'm not sure if I was the one who recommended the socks, but I'm willling to take full credit for anything good that happens Smile

Steve - hope the surgery went well.

Michelle -waiting to hear about your race.

Rob - I like your suggestion on what my Doug should do when he beats me home.  Great idea.

Sam/Tony - My Doug tried that heartrate monitor "after hours workout" line  ONCE!!!!!

Good Monday Morning.....

Trevor: Super job on the race! You are going to be a running force in April.

Doug:  That TM run served more than finishing your longest run ever, mental fortitude baby! Nice stuff.

Dino:  I had a mini schnauzer that I used to take on 5-7m walks (before I became a runner). Newt was young, but after a while really started pooping out on those efforts.  My vet said he wasn't made for such long distances, esp in heat (which was onbviously not the case for you).  Not sure if that is your issue, but maybe you can continue by building distances and see where your pooch starts tiring.

Glen: congrats on the first ride on your new wheels.  Time to hit some hills??!!

Jeff: Welcome back to reality!  Sounds like you had a great time.  What exactly is a right hand ring?

Tracy: Mittens? do you actually where them in NC?

We still have a high surf advisory in Maui, but the man and I are going in search of a calmer beach.  I had to buy some new goggles yesterday and he bought some too!  Said I could teach him how to swim....so naive, but very happy he wants to give it a try. Today is our last day in Maui. Tomorrow we are off to Kauai to spend time with Paul's parents......one week left in paradise!
