Enjoy the weekend! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Sooo... how much riding is enough test for bike shorts? ??. I decided to go watch a local Gran Fondo and found a great pair of shorts that look perfect and, importantly, match my jersey. (Also found gloves that match) |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Originally posted by amd723 I don't get saddle sores. These are "Dude girl" but seem to be manufactured by Louis Garneau. They have a tapered chamois like the one's I've been training in, but seem better "up front" which seems it would be great being in aero.Originally posted by rrrunner Sooo... how much riding is enough test for bike shorts? ??. Master 8248 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition I would do one long ride that is pretty close to race distance to test new shorts. Doesn't have to be exactly race distance, but I would test them on a ride in the 2:00-2:30 range for HIM, for example. (The actual race time about 2:50 on a good day.) And make sure that most of it, if possible, is approximating race conditions (mostly aero if that's how you'll ride; outdoors and not on the trainer.) If that's okay, you should be good to go. If not, I'd go with more familiar shorts. I've actually had more serious issues with tri suits/shorts on the swim. If the swim is going to be against current in the ocean a river, you need to test it IN THOSE CONDITIONS. Came very close to losing my shorts multiple times in a race in Singapore. They were fine in the pool, but the waist was just not tight enough--repeatedly had to pull the shorts up to prevent being pantsed by the current! I also have a one-piece (my favorite race suit) that seems to fit great but is a flappy mess on the swim--I have to wear a wetsuit or speed suit over it. So definitely test new stuff well before the race, for all disciplines. Okay--do as I say, not as I do. I lost my aero helmet (a donation from my coach--it had seen better days and was due for replacement anyway as the "wings" had cracked at some point in transit) en route to Worlds, bought another one at the expo, and wore it for the first time in the race. But I think it was the same model (maybe an update), only in hot pink instead of boring white. Sadly, I have no decent photos of my color-coordinated hot pink self on the bike, only on the run. I can't load it to my race report for some reason; sticking it here just for fun. Race was a wash-out, but actually the last mile or so I felt really good and this is one of my best tri photos ever--the way I think/wish I look like when I race. Maybe need to see if it's possible just to buy one or two pics--all the others are awful. (Also found gloves that match) Well, since Fi is not in the same state that you are, I think testing is out the window! If I were testing, I;d get 30+ miles in, if possible. I would typically start to have problems by then if they were gonna happen. |

I tend to have a lot of confidence in stuff after a couple hours of working really well, problems usually showed up well before then. And usually over a few rides too, to see how things start to stretch out. That probably works out to about what Janyne said. |

436 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Hey all. Those are really cute puppies and nice race pic! I've never found my bib online before a race but sounds like a screensaver would be an awesome reminder to keep training. I raced an Oly tri yesterday and despite there being only 7 of us in the 35-39 AG I somehow beat them all. I'm really sore today but as everyone on here knows, it's well worth it! Hope everyone else had successful races this past weekend too. I know there were a lot of us out there. |
