That crud is everywhere. Hope you feel better. Went to a social thing yesterday and the flu was the topic of much conversation.

Ugh...hoping it does not hit hard here. We are sort of in a weird position between the northern and southern hemisphere flu seasons--some years we are affected more by one than the other. We had a small outbreak at school early in the year (August)--I would assume the virus coming from kids who'd spent the break in Australia--but little recently.

I have asthma though it's really only a big issue when I'm sick. Flu really sucks. Had a horrid case last year and really felt like I was going to die a couple of times--I would start coughing and then end up with a full-on asthma attack--often many times a day and, worse yet, night. Ended up on antibiotics for two weeks after I caught bronchitis on top of it.

I did get the shot this year. I thought, even if it makes the illness 10% or 30% less severe or whatever, it is very worth it. If it does become a big issue here, seriously, I'm going to avoid indoor crowds altogether. I guess that is more possible in a tropical country!

The flu is no joke this year. I have some friends who came down with it that got Tamiflu within 48 hours and said it helped a ton.

Best course of action is hydration, hydration, hydration and rest (plus whatever OTC you may need for headache, etc.).

Well, I finished the race and that is about all. Slow as heck, but I didn't expect much, and our "team" had a bunch of fun. Our team is: Foxtrot Union Charlie Kilo Cancer. There was rum in the afternoon to celebrate. ??

Yeah I'm on Tamiflu as well. It's been a weird progression. Started with some stomach issues and then turned into chills, sinus headaches and fatigue all the sudden and a fever for the last 4 days. The good thing is it hasn't completely knocked the wind out of me but it is annoying to say the least.

Unfortunately due to my history of Guillain-Barre I can't get the flu shot and have to rely on people around me getting the flu shot which apparently didn't work so well this year.

Fever is finally below 100 so hopefully this thing will die soon.

Does anyone know why my photos are posting sideways in my log?

Adding that to them appearing as links in the manatees thread my OCD is having trouble coping.

This sounds like the virus I had last year. Think I caught it flying to Thailand at Tet. Pretty much all of Asia was on the move making each other sick, due to Chinese New Year and the Muslim pilgrimage (Haj) to Mecca coinciding.

It took almost a week to really feel flu-like, and then just dragged on and on, probably because I never really got the rest I needed. Started with some gut issues and then chills at night a few days later. I had no other symptoms so chalked it up to PMS and maybe too much spicy Thai food. Then got some sinus congestion on top of that--again, I didn't feel "sick" or unusually fatigued (I was at a training camp and putting in some major rides); chalked that up to allergies to different plants or smoke from field burning. It wasn't until I was on the plane back after almost a week of low-grade, annoying symptoms that were easily managed with Advil and allergy meds that I really started to feel sick (sore throat, muscle aches, fever). Unfortunately I then had a race in Singapore and a three-day school trip I couldn't get out of. By the final day of the latter, I was almost ready to medivac myself. On the worst days, I had no energy to do anything but lie on the sofa, sleep, and watch TV. I swear it affected my brain--I lost things left and right, did hair-brained things like forgetting to feed the cats or even myself, and just couldn't think clearly, even with no fever. Yuck.

Get plenty of rest and fluids. Guessing this is the same virus as last year here (H3N2). It's not nice and deserves respect. Hoping maybe I have some immunity to it now. Of course they mutate and we may well get to test-drive some new variety from China (where most of them originate, due to the huge numbers of birds, pigs, and people in close proximity).

Originally posted by glfprncs Running shoe rotation. Your thoughts? Do you wait until your current pair is about done and then get a new pair? Or do you have 2 (or more) of the same brand/model that you keep in rotation until they hit a certain mileage? Or do you have 2 (or more) of different brands and/or models that you keep in rotation and wear different shoes for different workouts? I've always been of the wear a pair until they hit a certain mileage (usually around 300 miles) and then integrate a new pair into the mix for a few weeks and then retire the old pair. My current pair has around 250 miles (and with the increased mileage I'm doing now, they are taking a toll on my ankles and feet during longer runs (17+ miles), and I have a new pair that have 3 miles, but I'm thinking of getting another pair so that I won't always have a pair on their way to retirement when the new pair comes into play. However, I've been reading a lot on wearing different brands or models of shoes, but that are similar in stack/offset/etc. just to get your stabilizer muscles to work in different ways on occasion. Then I've read where some people have long, slow distance shoes (with much more cusion) and then have different make/model shoes they wear for track workouts and tempo runs. Would love your thoughts.

Late to the party here

I usually have two pairs of shoes going. When one pair reaches about 3/4 or it's life, I get another pair. I use the new pair for a short runs for a week or two and then use the newer pair for longer runs and the older pair for short runs until eventually the older pair is retired. I generally run in the same model shoes -- just different colors.

Xlab is probably the way to go. I know my local tri shop carries them and a few other brands. I have a Profile Design system that has a bar to put your bike computer on but the bar. On my old bike, I found that it's difficult to see the bike computer. I've been using it with my Edge 520 and my newer bike on the trainer but I'm not sure how well I'll be able to see the bike computer outside.  As a result, I've been using my watch on the bike. I flip it around so that the face is towards the aero bars.

So I found an.... interesting challenge for a race this year.  It is a four day event, a marathon each day, at Four Corners. One marathon each day in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. It's run by the same group that does the Antelope Canyon Ultra that Lisa did last year.  It's in December. So, if DS2 and I are able to swing the Dopey Challenge in 2019 then I'll probably do the HM's instead. If DS2 and I can't/don't get in to Dopey, then I think I'm doing a quad marathon in December.

Jensie just did seven and he's not even a runner!!!!

They (an organization within Navajo Nation) also have a couple neat looking, shorter distance, races up near the Grand Canyon that I might do.

This caught my eye because I love racing in different places.  I looked it up and it says the Utah course is a 1 mile loop that you do 26 times?  Ouch!  I was only thinking about the half marathon option, but still....

Granted, I think I found the 2016 race information, so it's possible that's changed.
