Chris: Great news on the foot. Keep us posted on the plan and progress. Glad you got it looked at.

Suzy: Aren't the monk seals very endangered these days? I thought I remembered hearing that on my last trip to Kona. If so, totally awesome that you got to spot one! And if not, still totally awesome as far as I'm concerned!

HORN-TOOTING:

Today I did a 2k tt in the pool (after a 7-mile track workout and lunch!). When I started my training program 5+ weeks ago, I did a 500 for time and it felt like crap and was a 7:19. The crap part was just that I felt like I had no swim endurance whatsoever and like I died after about 150 yards.

So today... for my tt I did a 28:04, and I split out my 500's and they were: 6:59,7:02,7:01,7:01 (1K was 14:02). Yay!! That is major progress for me and I was just thrilled, not only to beat that old 500tt time, but to be so consistent and hang on. Mentally I went into it thinking of 4x500, start out comfy and try to build. Of course I was also breaking it up into 10x200 and 8x250 and 5x400... playing tons of mind games with myself. But at each 500 I tried to hang on a little tighter and put a little more into it. I never checked my splits while I was swimming, just lapped my watch at the 500's, so was so surprised to see how I did. Yay!!

Kyla, you are such a swimming stud...dayum girl.  I would just flip for a 28 minute 1500, let alone 2000!  Are you back to your high school form, now???

Oh, and Suzy?  My last few visits to Kauai, it seemed like it would rain and then suddenly be beautiful...so if you don't swim today, there will be a pocket of sunshine tomorrow!

As for the speed issues, I also seem to have my results in Training Center that show negative speeds.  I am wondering if the issue comes from the sampling rate or what, I am also seeing negative speeds in Garmin Training center which seems very odd to me. Ugh why cant this be easier!

I WISH!!! I think my best 500 in college (shaved, tapered, and miles of training to back me up) was a 5:04. Won't ever see anything close to that again. But I'm happy just to have some sustainable endurance again. Would gladly give up much of my swim speed in exchange for some bike legs, seriously!! I appreciate being comfortable in the water, that is HUGE, I know... but if you're gonna have a strong sport the swim doesn't buy you much in the long run (so to speak), really!!

Well folks.....I just did it. I just ran a 5K without stopping to walk! I am soooooo excited I can barely stand it! And it was an improvement on my time from when I'm on the TM (time is in my training log). So I guess I'll be ready for my race this weekend!

You are a ROCK STAR my friend.

Here's what you do: "I do what not to do to an extreme," Whitlock says. "I go out jogging. It's not fast running, just that I do it for a long time. I don't follow what typical coaches say about serious runners. No physios, ice baths, massages, tempo runs, heart rate monitors. I have no strong objection to any of that, but I'm not sufficiently organized or ambitious to do all the things you're supposed to do if you're serious. The more time you spend fiddlediddling with this and that, the less time there is to run or waste time in other ways."

Not very long, but my max 5 sec was 972 watts.

I really tightenend the bike down and made sure it was all as stable as possible.  I was still pulling it off the ground.  It's a pretty fun workout.  4 x :15, come to a complet stop in the biggest gear.  all out sprint for the :15, then 3:00 recovery.

Wow, just wow.  I still have a lot of data collecting to do and have not gotten to really push my max wattage yet.  I think my 30 second to a minute is my most accurate reading thus far.  You hit a milestone for sure

Glen - best of luck to you at your tri.

Chris - that is great news about the foot. You'll be stronger and faster than ever.

Kyla - major kuddos on the swimming.

Tony - DAMN DUDE!!

I bought my airline tickets for my trip to Canada for my IMCA'11 registration this week!!  Me thinks this is the first of a long series of $500 bills associated with this race.  Money mouth  So now I need to meet Birdy and Ryan and be revived with some Jack and Cokes and a few thousand feet of trail running!!!

KEWL!!! And yeah, the money does start to leave your pocket quickly. For me so far it's been entry fee, coaching plan, training camp, maybe a bike, lodging... But it's SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!! I've been thinking if I love doing CDA maybe I'll have to aim for CA. The trouble with that for me is it's late in the summer as far as the kid's schedules are concerned and I'd have a heckuva time training as hard during the summer (ironic, isn't it?).

Yay!!

Way to go on the TT - that is wicked fasssttt!

I'm from San Antonio so I was safe from the craziness.  Thanks.

Woo Hoo!!!! for not stopping.  I got close yesterday but made myself do my second run with the breaks.  I think I will try not stopping this weekend while controlling the speed.  Nice job.  Keep it up!  You'll be running a marathon before you know it.

Kayla, awesome job on the swim times.

Bike Power Rocks!  Nice job.  I am sooo jealous.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

So today... for my tt I did a 28:04, and I split out my 500's and they were: 6:59,7:02,7:01,7:01 (1K was 14:02).

AAAHHHH!  now the truth comes out - college swimmer!  I'm so jealous.  Awesome job and keep it up, we want to see that 5:04 again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
