The hard part is allowing yourself time to heal. Listen to your PT, but really listen to yourself. You will be back to racing before you know it. Dino |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice race Trina! I spent the majority of yesterday being worthless, Friday night ended up taking a toll on me. I could hardly eat anything yesterday as spices were not nice to my stomach. Spent the majority of the day sleeping or laying down. Finally able to get some food into me today and have been practicing putting on/taking off a tube and tire so I have some more experience doing that now. Gonna hit the dog park and a lot of house cleaning today. May do a bit of a jog but know that I am going to have a rough day of workouts based on poor nutrition yesterday. Hopefully will be back up and ready tomorrow for my 20 min TT. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for all the encouragement and advice re: stepping up to do a Oly this year. I am feeling good about it now....actually pretty excited about it. Did the indoor tri this morning. Really pleased with the results compared to last year. Felt great too! Swim - 20 lengths vs. 15.5 last year (10 minutes) Bike - 15.2mi vs. 14 last year (30 minutes) Run - 2.09mi vs. 1.79 last year (20 minutes) Greatest improvement was in the swim, so I am pleased about that. Next race is the Rodeo 5K next Saturday. Edited by gdctex 2010-02-21 9:24 AM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First and foremost, nice job Glenn! It shows that all your work is paying off.....great feeling. Second, it's official.....I'M GOING TO LONESTAR! After a lot of back and forth with Steve, we agreed I would toe the line. Highly likely that I will be doing the swim, the bike and cheering you on for the run with a beer in my hand and a smile on my face. Doesn't bother me a bit....I get to meet y'all! Yahoo.... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kickitinok - 2010-02-20 12:15 PM I did it! I ran in my first race, and wasn't even nervous ![]()
My time: 43:20 - 14th in my age class. I think there were only 20 in my age class. LOL! I'm not complaining, as this is about 1.5 minutes faster than Thursday's 5K practice run. It was cold, rainy, foggy, and I'm never up at 6:30 am, much less racing at 8 am. My heart kind of sank when a dude pushing one of those run strollers passed me, then a couple of 60+ y/o people passed, but then I looked behind me and saw a buttload of people so I didn't feel so bad. Kept a steady pace throughout the race - although my HR was high the entire time. That was fun! TOTALLY AWESOME ( read with a Canadian accent?) Hey Trevor I didn't think WE had an accent. But really... nice race Trina. Feels great to have that first one under your belt doesn't it. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also, if you can believe it I did my first run based solely on HR today. I usually just pick a pace and run that, might also throw in some RPE and HR to keep things in check but normally base things on pace. Ended up running faster than I normally would for my LSD runs. All I did was try to keep it in Z2 for the whole run. Other than that first part of the run where my HR shoots up then comes back down I did it. LOL, I think sometimes I fall into collecting a lot of data but not really using it the way I should, anyone else do this? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello MG. I ran outside today! 18.55 miles in 3:34:06. Not great but I was trying to run at about 6 mph, and then I had some calf cramps in the 2nd half. I have to work on adjusting the nurition. Kept it from getting too bad and even had a late mile at about 6.5 mph. That ws my longest run ever both in time and distance. None of my runs between now and the marathon (4 weeks) will be this long. Hope all is well with you. Doug |

None of my runs between now and the marathon (4 weeks) will be this long. Hope all is well with you. Doug Great job my friend. Just checking in with you guys...thank God for quality drugs. I had a "block" done in the shoulder. It is a nerve block that they leave a catheter in with a pump to give localized drugs right into the joint/repair site. Works GREAT...less dope, quicker and more effective than pills. Well, this ran it's course and I finished that this morning...boo hoo. Pain is something I can manage, but the lack of mobility coupled the continuous throbbing...well it ain't fun. Originally I understood the Doc to say I would be able to start some light training in 4-6 weeks....NOT A CHANCE. I am to be in a sling for 6 weeks....then I get to do PT....THEN I get to start light training. Rant/off I can't wait for warm weather to get here so I can at least get outside....beautiful day today and windows open in the apartment...Very Nice. I been trying to keep up with you guys as best as possible but this has taken me about 20 min to type with my let hand only....so I probably won't be contributing much but I am trying to read the MG thread every day. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Steve |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice work on the run Doug! I am starting to get the itch for some longer outdoor runs, going to have to get used to the cold still on them for a few more months here. Steve. Ugh for immobility, hope all is going well and that your road to recovery is quick. Follow docs orders and hope that your body kicks in for a good recovery. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Really nice job on the run Doug. Sounds like you are getting close to being ready for your race in a few weeks. Gotta love overnight flights....left Honolulu at 5:55pm and arrived in Mpl at 5:30am (1:30 HT). Next flight isn't until 10am so we are sitting in the Delta Club in a semi coma with an IV of coffee pulsing through our veins. ![]() |

Sounds like you are getting close to being ready for your race in a few weeks. The redeye's suck and completely drain you. I used to have to do the New York-London-New York within 24hrs all the time for work. I would always be completely drained for the rest of the week. Good thing you're a little spark plug, you should have no problems.Gotta love overnight flights....left Honolulu at 5:55pm and arrived in Mpl at 5:30am (1:30 HT). Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Suzy- AWESOME! So glad you'll be joining us at Lonestar! Doug- Very nice job. Make your nutrition tweaks and you'll be rocking it! Steve- Hang in there. Be patient and I know you'll come back stronger than ever. I'm hoping this week is a little more organized. The body had a hard time after a busy weekend last weekend so I made sure I got my rest this weekend. Goal is to get all my workouts in AND yoga. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Glen - awesome job on the indoor tri. To improve in all three areas is a great thing! Doug - nice job on the run. You have been dedicated to your plan and are going to rock your race in few weeks! Suzy - welcome back to reality. How many weeks until your next vacation?!? Canada peeps....well, never mind. I had a forced low activity week last week after getting sick but feel like I am close to being back to 100%. Just need to get rid of the last of this cough. This was my first weekend since New Year's that I did not ski...I actually enjoyed the break! Was able to do my 9 mile run yesterday with no issues. This afternoon's swim will be the tell tale point of if I am good to go. Have a good week! George |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the inspires and comments. As Fatty said I am want to get this race over already. I have learned a lot. Not the least of which is: I would rather being doing a triathlon! I come to triathlon as a former bike racer. I am not a natural runner. Being honest with myself, I look like a hockey player when I am out running (cause I am). My feet "thrum" for a couple hours after each long run. Today my back is a little tender, hammys are tight and I am raw in some places. GOod news is the compression shorts rocked! The odd thing about long distance running for me is that there is no sense of elation at the end, just relief that it is over. At the end of a tri I feel sad it is over and can't wait for the next one. Maybe that will change if I can dial in the nutrition and drop some more lbs. Anyway, 26.2 is probably gonna "hurt real bad." ![]() |
