Expert 939 Tulsa | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Arriving wednesday afternoon and leaving on tuesday. Rented a 5 bedroom/5 bath house right on the beach that is about .75 miles from the race start. Also, the run goes right by the house 4 times. My family can sit in the driveway and watch us come by! It's going to be awesome! Is anyone doing IMKansas 70.3 or Branson 70.3? Edited by ballyard7 2010-02-03 11:54 AM |

Driving down from Athens, Ga (8hrs?) to: jldicarlo last year brittany/texasmp? kicked my butt at IMAZ and she had some difficult training situations. All power to you for keeping us to free to play! My running is pathetic. I won't hit phatknots numbers even in high IM training. Maybe I won't go at all. I'll never have time for that and I'm sick of being in pain everyday esp from a pathetic 2 mile run. |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I think we will drive down from NY for the race arriving on Wednes and staying until Monday. Like Kathy said, PCB this time of year is much more affordable compared to LP. 3 bedroom condo at Laketown Wharf less than 3 nights in a hotel in LP! Much easier to bring family and friends!!! |

Expert 1360 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread kenj - how far of a drive is it for you (which part of NY are you in?) we are trying to decide if we should drive or fly. If we fly it will be out of detroit or Buffulo - each of which are a two hour drive from where we are. I don't believe there are direct flights to PCB from either city though. |

Fly Southwest bikes are only $50 each way if you opt to fly. SWA you normally have to connect somewhere but they are good at making luggage make the flight. |

Its about 1250 miles, which is probably 20 hours drive time. We will leave Tuesday morning and get close to Atlanta and finish the drive to get to PCB early/mid afternoon Wednesday. I could catch a flight from Rochester to PCB through Atlanta, but for an IM I like to have a lot of stuff available for the just in case. Bike tools, spare parts, colder weather or wet weather gear (I learned my lesson at LP in 2008) so its easier to drive with what the airlines are charging for extra bags. You might get a direct from Detroit on Delta (formerly Northwest), but my limited experience trying to fly into PCB (I had an employee I had to get there for a family emergency) it is not a big airport and it is mostly serviced by regional carriers out of Atlanta, but I haven't tried in a couple years. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I think I have pretty much decided to just stay at my own house. It's less than hour drive in the early morning before everyone wakes up so I really don't save much by staying in town. Plus it's just FUN to sleep in your own bed the night before Ironman. The only thing I hope to do is have someone else drive in with me in the morning so that if I am unable to drive myself home they can drive me. Sort of like a DD. |

Veteran 136 Panama City Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've got a long drive too...should take me about 15min to get there. Depending on my traffic that week I should be able to make good time to all the events. The morning of the race many of you will be closer than me...just saying. If anyone has questions about shipping or needs a location to ship anything to let me know. Also, Steve's bike shop is the best in town (The Bike Shop, off 23rd street). |

Veteran 345 Chesapeake, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread FYI on the Panama City airport. Only Delta flies in/out now. Atlanta is the primary hub with one flight to nashville (I think). HOWEVER, that all changes in about 3 months. The NEW panama city airport will be opening up. I think Southwest has already jumped onboard there, not sure who else, but they will have more connections that just the nightmare of Atlanta. Long story short, start looking for flight info in May-ish...the new airport should be open and the flight options and prices should be much, much better. |

Veteran 297 Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread So Southwest will service the new Panama City airport? That is great news if so, because these flight options have been killing me. Being in the midwest, Southwest is always the best option for getting anywhere cheap out of Kansas City. |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I just checked, I can fly Southwest from Midland TX (the middle of nowhere) to PCB for only 149 each way. They're not booking October yet, but it's looking pretty good. SWA-bags fly free. not apparently bicycles though. I think KathyG said $50 - which is cheap compared to American. I think I ended up paying in the neighborhood of $300 to ship my bike last time. That included assembly and diassembly in PCB. I think this time I'll fly with the bike and put it together myself. With the current schedule I can arrive mid-day, so there'll be a bit more time, and I'm a lot more comfortable working on this bike now. It was brand new last time. |

May be a good idea...good way to meet everyone. From what I remember isn't Thursday the athlete dinner? Maybe we could all do something after...toss it around. I'm willing to have something at the house... In the years I've been to the race '06. '08, and '09, we tend to meet up for swims in morning and have various meals planned that folks can show up for. We have had dinner Friday evening when someone volunteers to coordinate it. With Athlete dinner Thursday, I think Friday lunch is better so folks can have their own dinner and do what they need to day before race. Last two years we have gotten great tech BT shirts that come in two varieties one for racers and one that says support crew. It makes meeting other BTers much easier when just walking around as we all don't necessarily look like our avatars. I like meeting others & including family/friends the race as it makes race day fun recognizing other BTers out on the course. |
