436 | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED I'm officially taking myself off the DL/sick list! I'm still not back to 100% but I feel good enough to workout without hacking up a lung again. It's amazing how much fitness you can lose in a few weeks. I went for an easy swim this weekend and after about 500 yds I was shot! Not that I'm a good swimmer by any means but I'd built up to being able to do a good 2K without feeling like I was going to drown. Oh well.... This conversation may have passed but I have the X-Lab Torpedo Versa 200 (https://www.xlab-usa.com/torpedo-versa-200.html) and I just took off the whole computer arm/mount part. No matter how much I tightened the screw, whenever I rode it would flap around and it drove me crazy! I now just use my 920xt on my wrist and forego a bike computer all together. |

Drop down works now, but I agree, should get a notification if you have an inspire. |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Originally posted by jenstewey Originally posted by rrrunner So I found an.... interesting challenge for a race this year. It is a four day event, a marathon each day, at Four Corners. One marathon each day in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. It's run by the same group that does the Antelope Canyon Ultra that Lisa did last year. It's in December. So, if DS2 and I are able to swing the Dopey Challenge in 2019 then I'll probably do the HM's instead. If DS2 and I can't/don't get in to Dopey, then I think I'm doing a quad marathon in December. Jensie just did seven and he's not even a runner!!!! They (an organization within Navajo Nation) also have a couple neat looking, shorter distance, races up near the Grand Canyon that I might do. This caught my eye because I love racing in different places. I looked it up and it says the Utah course is a 1 mile loop that you do 26 times? Ouch! I was only thinking about the half marathon option, but still.... Granted, I think I found the 2016 race information, so it's possible that's changed. I think that is still the case and is a HUGE down-side for me as well. |

595 | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN Originally posted by glfprncs Running shoe rotation. Your thoughts? Would love your thoughts. Sorry I missed a few days while finishing up in Disney. So you may have moved past this Nancy. Short answer is I rotate between two pairs. Long answer is I run in orthotics. I developed a foot compartment syndrome two years ago. I would get burning pain at about 4 to 6 miles that would limit my run. It improved after orthotics but I tend to be sensitive to when the foam is spent in my shoes. I run in one pair for shorter midweek runs and a second pair for longer weekend runs. When I start to feel the run more in my feet and ankles I check the miles this is typically around 300. I then retire these shoes to casual shoes or OR shoes for work. They typically look okay. Both shoes are same model, although I have thought about switching it up. Nate |

I found an aero bottle that had a mount for the computer that was more forward. This was actually better as I could easily see it in aero. I'm at work or else I would include a pic. |

I'm at work or else I would include a pic. I ended up getting 2 pieces from XLab. The Torpedo mini mount and the aero computer mount which bolts to the mini mount. I'll forgo the aerobottle for now and just use a regular bottle & slide it back towards my stem and then mount the computer ahead of it on it's mount. It seemed to be the most inexpensive solution for the time being. I'll revisit the aerobottle with straw at a later date if need be. I did get a couple bottle holder risers/wedges to raise the bottle cage off the mount a bit out of fear that the computer might just get in the way of taking a regular bottle out of the cage as needed, though I'm not sure they were needed (but at 50 cents each, it's the cheapest thing X-lab sells!!). |

I'm by no means a petite flower, and my current pair & current orthotic has just over 270 miles on them. I ended up getting 2 new pair that I'm planning on getting broken in and then I'll go ahead and retire the older pair (which still look brand new since the only thing I do in them is run). This particular shoe has always been easy for me to break in (seriously, in the past I could take them out of the box and run 10 miles in them), but I'm a little skeptical of doing that when I have to go 20 miles on Saturday. Maybe I'll run 10 miles in the old pair, stop at the car for fuel and H2O and finish the run in the new, cushy pair. Edited by glfprncs 2018-01-16 8:07 PM |

595 | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN With the orthotics and using the same model of shoes, no break in time needed in my opinion, but certainly not worth the risk. Is this your first set of orthotics or just a new set? |

Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Nate, it's just a new set. They're not anything custom, just green Superfeet (which I've been using for 5 years). I did make the mistake during my run-up to Augusta 70.3 and tried their 'new and better' green model specifically made for runners. I was in them for a month and kept getting blisters (which I never get while running) and finally put two and two together. Put the normal green ones back in and all issues were gone. The moral? If it's not broke, don't fix it. I generally replace them every other pair of shoes. Edited by glfprncs 2018-01-17 6:28 AM |

541 North Grafton, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN Originally posted by glfprncs Running shoe rotation. Your thoughts? Would love your thoughts. I feel like I must be some kind of shoe dinosaur because I don't replace my shoes until I've got at least 500 miles on them. I still have my most recently retired pair of shoes on hand and do use them occasionally when I run on my treadmill. I can tell the difference in the amount of cushioning left in those shoes vs. my newer pair which may have 200 miles on them. My typical run is 5-6 miles, so I'm not doing long runs like some others that are training for halfs or fulls (marathon or Ironman). But I look at how the tread is worn on my 200-mile shoes and think there easily has to be 200+ miles left. So put a big asterisk on my feedback. In terms of the rotation, I will alternate the shoes only if I feel like the new pair needs breaking in. If I wear them for the first time on a 5-mile run and they feel fine with no issues, then I'll pretty much start using them every run. If I have bought the same model as a previous pair, I'm pretty sure I won't have issues. But I did this past year when buying a new brand/model. The toe box was shaped a little differently. While the shoes were fine for a shorter run (e.g., a brief treadmill run at the store when trying them on!), I found that they really started to hurt my toes once I got past the 4-5 mile mark. I no longer run in those shoes and they are my every day sneakers for non-training activities. |

Can you start your new shoes mid week and if, after say two runs they are OK, wear them for your long one? |

When they change the model though, I have had similar issues with the same of the toe box or the placement of a seam. So if I were going from Glycerin 15 to Glycerin 15, I would not hesitate to jump in with longer runs after 1-2 shorter runs to make sure there was not defect that I had not noticed. If I were going from Glycerin 15 to Glycerin 16, I'd consider doing a few more shorter runs before a long one. That's just me, though. |
