Don't have time to catch-up on the posts, if anyone congratulated me about Saturday's race - Thanks! I feel so happy right now!! I'll be back later to read all the posts. You guys are the best!!

Anyway, it's a week of firsts for me. Today I did a swim TT: 500 yards in 2:17 - and I was purposely going slow so that I wouldn't run out of breath. I'm thinking I'm going to be ready for Lonestar - never thought I'd be able to do it. Starting from scratch 10 weeks ago - who knew?

P.S. Tried on my wetsuit yesterday and had to run and lock myself in the bathroom. *blush* Let's just say hubby really liked the wetsuit look.

I am thrilled for your new found enthusiasm and dedication!  Always nice to have some husband support too.
That 500y looks a little fast to me.....my 100s are a little over 2:00 and I am pretty darn slow.

I would have had to have an outboard motor mounted on my back to make that kind of time. LOL!

Kyla 20% off Infinit order: LTFMN73

I did my 20 min TT again tonight and came up with 224 watts which seems to be probably more accurate than my previous 260ish.  I did a few peaks at the end and managed to get 834 for my 5 second max.  934 is what my meter shows as the max for the workout.

Time to revise my zones tomorrow and see if that makes a difference in my workouts.  I think I have a bit of an issue pushing myself to that extreme when biking.  I can make myself run until I want to get sick, but on the bike my legs fatigue before I get to that point.  I found my HR sat right at 170, and all in all I am hovering right at about 2.9 watts/kg

Kewl -- thanks a ton!!And yeah, I'm with you (now power, just HR and RPE/Garmin cadence/speed) in that it's hard to push myself to the biking extreme. My problem is the pacing. I think I have more running experience so I know how hard I can push and still have enough to finish a given time or distance. But also I do find that my legs can't keep up with where I want my HR to go on some days. I've always wondered if that is just not having as good of bike conditioning? Keep on keepin' on!!

New record!!!  We had a smalll snow squall here yesterday. About 5 cm ( 2in). and the stupids really came out. 3 hours and 38 minutes to get home. Missed my spin class and had to shovel snow when I got home.

Only problem is we will be AT work when it comes in. Hopeing the school calls with a closure so I can go home. You know that .5 inch that isn't going to accumulate might be dangerous.

Yikes that is crazy.  A couple years back we got snow during the day, and it was about 2 inches an hour.  I left from work at 3 and got home at 7:15 that night, 26 mile drive.  I could have run home in the same amount of time it took to drive! Ughh.  And I happened to be in a car with no radio that day.

WARNING:

Here come the snake oil, witchdoctor, voodoo or whaterver but...
I have never been one of these people that believed or used these copper bracelets or magnetic contraptions, but the other day a friend gave me what is called a POWER BALANCE bracelet which has a frequency programmed into it.

To make a long story short, there are some balance tests which seem to work, but the kicker was, I told the guy that gave it to me that if it helped my back at all, I would be SOLD.   My lower back has been hurting for 2 solid years...just part of life.  Well, after a couple weeks wearin g this bracelet, my back feels about 85% better...and I don't think it is a coincidence.  Now if it would help my ITB

Check it out  www.powerbalance.net

Morning guys!  Sorry about the little rant yesterday.  I'm not sure why it bothered me so much - I'm not, and have never been, a competitive person (at least I didn't think soSmile).  Anyway, I'm feeling better about it today.  I think it's motivated me to work a little harder on my running.  I had a really easy 4 mile run last night - felt like I could have kept going in fact, but didn't want to overdo it too much.  I've already had a short swim this morning and I've got Pilates class tonight.

Wetsuit question - I'm thinking about attending a wetsuit demo at a nearby pool on Thursday night.  I figure I'm probably going to need one for my tri in May so I want to see what would work best for me.  So I'm curious - do most of you have the full sleeve wetsuits or sleeveless and does it really make a difference?  The water temp at the tri is expected to be around 68-72F.  Does that make a difference in whether full or sleeveless would be better or is it just a matter of personal preference?  Just looking for some ideas on what I should ask/look for on Thursday.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Does BT have an entry for forum reading in the workout log that I'm missing?

Janet -

I have only used a sleeveless suit.  The water temp at my first tri last year was 61 deg (brrrrrr).  I used a neoprene cap too which really helped.  Once I started swimming, I was fine with a sleeveless.  I bought the sleeveless because I was concerned about arm mobility, especially in the entry level model that I was purchasing (Xterra Vortex 2 - really happy with that suit!).  I also thought it would be easier to get off in transition.

All that being said, more rubber in the suit (ie, sleeves) means more bouyancy which should translate to easier swimming.  Also, if you have any aprehension about the OWS, the more bouyancy the better...just a little piece of mind.  I just purchased a full sleeved suit for my wife who is doing her first tri in June.

There are as many fans of sleeveless as there are of full sleeves.  In the end, it comes down to personal preferance.  It is great that you have that demo to go to.  Take full advantage of that if you can make the time.  It is not often that you will get to try on and test several different wetsuits all at once.  It will be a great way to tell what is best for you!

Also - it is great what a little motivation can do for your run!!

I have a full sleeve Blue Seventy Helix which is very lightweight with extra stretchy material around the shoulders for ease of movement. I had a cheaper Nineteen as my first suit and for short distances, Sprints to Olys it was fine, although less forgiving in the shoulders.  You also get some flotation from those sleeves.  The temps you describe suggest to me that a full sleeve would be the way to go...upper 60s/low 70s is still cold water.
