I am not sure what the title would be, she is sort of an all-around gopher type person, she has done everything from help out the mascot (Slamson the lion), to shill for all star ballots, dump out swag to visitors, and to direct folks to their ticket pick-up points (what she was doing yesterday). She has also done some sewing jobs for them too--she made seat covers for a VIP booth, and she regularly makes "outfits" for Slamson.

That sounds like a cool job!  That's where you got your sewing skills from Laughing.

All right, after 4 hours at the hospital, I FINALLY know what is going on! --and Mom is okay, kinda. I went in at about 2 pm, and figured I would eventually know what was going on. Of course the nurses just kept saying, "oh she's in recovery and should be back here soon....at 5:15, they told me "well, she is being moved to a new room where they can monitor her better" WHAT?!!? What happened?!?!? FINALLY at 5:40, I got to see her and find out details....she broke her right trochanteric neck (skinny part of the upper thigh bone that is between the long part and the head of the bone that fits in the hip socket---see? I did learn something in osteology!), and they needed to put two screws in it. She also developed a fever, and here oxygen levels coming out of the surgery were low. When I got to see her, her temps were better, and as long as she took good deep breaths, the O2 was okay (or if I made her laugh as I found out). She is in good spirits, and be in the hospital for the time being. Tomorrow, her main boss and the executive director of the Kings will go meet with her and make sure things are okay too (it is their costs--worker's comp, but they actually do really care about her). Dad is okay, and behaving himself, and now I just have to wait another week to take a 'relaxing' weekend....come to think of it, I may take a "sick" day from work this week....just to decompress....the last week has done wore me out!

Oh yeah, according to Mom, she was sure she just had a charlie horse....a charlie horse that requires surgery and screw installation, but a charlie horse nonetheless. I have always known that my family possesses an amazing tolerance for pain, but seriously, you break a bone and think its a twisted muscle? My mom rocks.

What a 24 hours you had there!  Yikes! Just the process of figuring out what the heck was going on sounds awful! Hopefully she gets out of the hospital soon and recovers quickly.

Good thoughts for your dad's continued good behavior as well!

Kate, I am really sorry for all you are going through right now.  We are heading into some of the same type of stuff with our parents.  I'm not sure if it was tougher to raise my kids or take care of the parents. Luckily we are close by now.

I'm keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

A Charlie horse?!?  Yeeesh!  Your mom is one tough cookie, glad to hear she got the proper care and is feeling decent.  Good news that your dad is behaving, too.  It can be tough taking care of parents, very stressful and time consuming, but when I get in a bit of a frump over it I remind myself that they spent many years raising/caring for me so the least I can do is repay the favor.  Plus at least if I am helping with (now just my dad) his care, I know things are getting done and where he stands medically, mentally, etc.

Keep your chin up and hang in there.  Sure it can be taxing and tough, but you are stronger and tougher, Kate!

Ann Marie, I found this to be one of the hardest swims I have ever done.  Between the current pull, the degree of chop and murkiness and what felt at times like full on body combat around other swimmers that you just could not see it was BRUTAL.  The really cool thing is that for me there was NO kayak hugging or other stroke.  I never gave up and was only 1 minute slower than my PB oly swim time from 2009.

Originally posted by bcraht Soooooooooo, my SO took the train in to meet me yesterday after work so we could go out for dinner.  She was behind and I got off a little early.  The sidewalk sale had just been moved to the Richmond store....  I just started on my last pair of my shoes.  They will go on sale every so often (usually when the next model is coming out) and I pair a couple pairs, as they are comfy and my feet like them.  I wouldn't say I have a problem, I am just looking ahead.  I usually retire a pair to work shoes, and have 2 pairs for running at any given time.  But my SO always wants me to get rid of a pair.  So getting a new pair in the house was going to be a bit of a problem...  Solved it by not taking the box.  Brought them home, put them in the old new pair box, which has not yet made it's way out of the closet.  Hey, she buys ice cream bars in boxes of 25. Sealed

Hahahaha! THAT was some sneaky genius Laughing

It is so past my bedtime, but I was so excited to make a video of my son's first ever swim PRACTICE, that I could not go to bed without working on it.  I am such a proud father right now, more proud than I've ever been.  These are the things that matter in life, not crazy ladies yelling at me in the parking lot over crappy wine.

Anyways - here is a picture I took tonight.. Love how this came out.

Here is the Youtube Video: I cut a 1 hour practice down to a bit under 6:00 minutes.  They did everything - flip turns, starts, kick sets, pull sets - I was impressed with my little guy.  He has never done anything like this, and he rocked it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mba0XgnRbOY

Great job!  Now I'm inspired to learn flip turns

Yeeps!  Your mom sounds like my mom...I'm sure mine would do the same thing.  Glad to hear she is doing ok now and that your dad is behaving.  I hope your mental health day is relaxing!!  Oh, and what does your mom do with the Kings?

Ha!  I was thinking that Kate's mom sounds like my dad!  He accidentally got tackled while reffing a CFL game and drove home, went to work, etc. all with a separated shoulder and broken ribs... but according to him, he just thought he got "winded".

Sending speedy recovery vibes to your mom, and I hope your dad is being good!  Yes Kate, your mom totally rocks!

Awesome. Mutti just came home from a church function really drunk. They're Germans.

Unfortunately, she has Hep C and this could be a stroke or something. GREAAAAAT.

I shall check in soon. Let's just hope it's a bad hangover tomorrow situation at worst.

Well I have strep so I'll be down for a few days with no training. Guess the good thing is I actually have time to catch up on some manatees. Feel like I never get to spend anytime here anymore.

BIKE SHIPPING

Has anyone ever used any of the bike shipping services? I'm going on vacation next week for 10 days and would like to take my bike. I know there are always those companies at the ironman races but didn't know if there are any that will just do it for a non race.
