SSMinnow - 2010-06-16 5:35 AM Who's already thinking about the weekend and their big race?????  Excited? Freaking Out? Give us the scoop.

Since so many people are racing in the next couple of weeks, tell us the #1 thing you do after you've hit the finish line to ensure recovery? And I swear if John says Beer I am coming to TX with some chocolate milk!

ME!  Denison Dash - Sprint - 300m pool, 13.8 hilly bike ride, and 3.5 mile run with 1.5 miles being a trail run!  As this is a completely new course for me I don't have a specific time goal for the entire race.  I want to swim under 2:00/100 and execute a solid T1.  I am going to push my bike to stay in RPE 8 land (the hills should help me there ) and hit a nice T2.  I want to try to run at 10:30 or less pace (there are some hills on the run as well.)  Most of all I want to mentally push through any pain and obstacles!

Mett - 2010-06-15 10:56 AM I am nervous, I am less than 30 days until I turn 30.

At 42, I am doing things I never thought possible... and setting PRs for running and triathlons. Age is a state of mind, my friend. We have no idea of the things of which are bodies are capable.  I think that's really cool.

You are absolutely right Kyla. I didn't even start doing karate until I was 43 and I ended up with a 3rd degree black belt. Since then I have moved onto triathons and have managed to get in a HIM in the first 2 years of doing that. As long as you keep active both physically and mentally you can stay young at heart. Our bodies can do so much more than our brains tell us.

I am not racing this weekend, and I do not have much for recovery following a race.  I tend to make sure I re(over)hydrate.  After I get home and cleaned up, it typically involves the Zoot Compression pants and often a nap.  Depending on the soreness the next day,  A light workout of sorts seems to help.  If I am real sore, a foam roller, or an ice bath or both.

I know this is a bit off topic but since the ladies were posting leg pictures, it sparked my memory.  This weekend, I came walking out of a porta-potty to my group of riders on Sunday and a few of the ladies commented how good my legs looked, especially the quads etc.  It threw me for a bit of a loop but made me feel good.

I have always had chicken legs, and I used to get comments all the time about it, so I started being a bit self-conscious about it.

As seen in this pic, I am the guy in the front, they look a lot like toothpicks! So finally seeing some muscle definition and someone else noticing it (and commenting that it was hot) made my day/weekend/week! Well the picture isnt working, but its the pic of me and another guy on the run from my last RR.

We said Rob!  I know I am in better shape now than at any point since high school....  My brother is considered the healthy one (body builder) but I can SBR laps around his butt!  He is exhausted after 30min of cardio (Sshhh - don't tell him I said anything though or he will snap me in two like a twig...)

First let me say yahoo to the ladies legs. Lets get them up as avatars as soon as possible although the full size pics are the best. They should be in the ladies of bt. .

Next  I am racing again this weekend. It is my Oly for the season so I am stoked to do really well and finish better than last year. I still have some issues with my shoulder and calves but that all goes the way of the Dodo when racing. It is also the club championships for the tri sereis so even more important to finish strong.

Great to see thos Cda numbers up. No nerves there right team I know everyone will do great there. You know we will be following you come race day.

I volunteered at my sons school last week for field day.  As I was leaving a teacher was walking behind me and asked what sport I played.  She said she figured it was biking or running because I had such nice looking legs.

LOL, made my month.

So, not wanting to join Doug in the OF Club, I went off to Amazon to download some new music last night.  I was using the list from yesterday (jvanis' list I think) to find new MP3's.  A couple of the songs were pretty good, but I was shocked at the explicit lyrics on the majority of them.  Is it just me or does it seem that the bands are big ole' potty mouths now?  I downloaded a couple of the songs from the list, but I couldn't quite get on board with most of the others...  (Downloaded some  Phil Collins, INXS, Queen, and Prince instead)

ME!!!!

Two races are on the docket again this week......aquathon on Thursday night (1000m/5k) and a HIM on Saturday!

Goal for the aquathon is the same as always, a calm, but strong swim.   May or may not go all out on the 5K depending on how the legs feel.  They are still a bit tired from the Sunday sprint.

Primary goal for the HIM is keeping my wits about me in what will no doubt be my hardest swim leading up to IM WI.  Lake is big, shallow, very green and always choppy (3-4 footers last year).  Once I'm out of the cesspool, its all about Z3 and managing my nutrition for a decent finish.  Haven't done a long run in 6 weeks.  Big test of strategy for me more than anything.

PS. These are the legs that will take me there.  My sticks are short, but still so not nearly as impressive as Tracy's and Twins!  You've gotta work it! with what you have!

Those are fabulous legs Suzy!  I'm still trying to get that tear drop back in the quads.  I saw it once in my cheerleading days but it has gone on a very long vacation.  BTW,  I have those same tri shorts.   Found them last week in the back of the closet.  Not the best shorts for longer rides but very comfy for running.

I'm racing again.  Funny little sprint called The Three Little Pigs due to its race location in Springfield NC.  I'm not a big fan of pool sprints but I figured the shirt would be cute enough to justify the race.  And with it being a sprint maybe I'll see that 30minute 5K again?!?!?!?!?!

Post race recovery - STOP MOVING!!   The moment I can stop moving is the best part of any race in my opinion!  But seriously, post race and workout I like to drink a Hammer Recoverite shake.  I've done the chocolate milk but it doesn't work as well for me.

You remind me of my husband. He has great quads but skinny calves.  Lately he is getting very excited at the calf muscle development going on.  Very hot!

I'm not posting leg pics -- not my strongest body part. Right now, with my training, I'm thrilled with my lats, arms, tummy... Yeah yeah yeah, pics or it's not happening. Sorry, fellas.

I am bursting my buttons this morning, just dripping with pride for my kiddos!!! Mommy brag time!! They did their first swim meet last night. My daughter is a spaz -- strong as an ox but needs some serious technique work, LOL! She'll get there -- I'm going to do some special stroke work with her this weekend if the schedule allows. But the brag is for my son!! If anyone knew this kiddo 1-2 years ago, you would not think he's the same kid. He is still one of the tiniest 10-year-olds you'll meet (58 pounds!) but he is just coming into his own. Last week at a mock meet he did a 50 free in 1:01. Last night he cruised to a :48 for the 50 free!! He looked awesome! And he definitely had the eye of the tiger in his events, especially the 200 free relay. This is a kid who has struggled a bit athletically (he came out the end of the baseball season hitless -- but he never gave up, drew walks [and did swing plenty], worked hard, and loved every minute of the game. He nearly broke my heart at his first couple of swim practices, because he had never swum that far and you could tell it was so HARD for him. Last week he did a 900-yard workout! OMG!!! It's just so amazing to see your kids find success within themselves. I can't wait to wake him up and tell him his time (the runner whisked it away last night before we saw it)!

OK, back to your regularly scheduled triathlon programming...

GOOD LUCK RACERS!! Nothing for me this weekend, other than a good race rehearsal on Saturday morning. And lots of list-making.

I agree with the lyrics,  most of it is a couple of years old, and I have grown away from that in the past few years, there is some of it now in my older years, at 27 HAH! I understand why my parents did not approve.

I'm racing....unless it snows!!! Actually it feels like Seattle around here lately. We have had a ton of rain the last month. And hard rain. Not piddly little drops here and there.
So hopefully we can keep it away on Saturday.

This was my first ever Oly(last year), and I want to destroy my time from then. 2:52:34.... I believe I can take a minute off my swim, a few off the bike, and a few off the run. I read my race report from then, and now I want to race right now!!
Not really an A race, as I have a 1/2 in 2 weeks.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled triathlon programming...

GOOD LUCK RACERS!! Nothing for me this weekend, other than a good race rehearsal on Saturday morning. And lots of list-making.

kkcbelle - 2010-06-16 9:16 AM I'm not posting leg pics -- not my strongest body part.

OMG!!! Mett - 2010-06-16 5:23 AM I was able to slow down and pace myself and it worked out pretty nice. I felt really good when I left, first time I have felt like that leaving the pool.

Great job on this effort!

My upper body is pretty sore today lol I am starting to feel the pain of getting use to swimming. I will say the guy next to me was flying in the lane and I really had to focus to not want to try and race him. Sometimes being competitive is brutal.

Hi Kids....Today I nearly met my maker.  I was in the middle of a two car accident while finishing up my threshold ride.  Cliff's note, I was heading down the road and a guy was turning left in front of me, no problem, plenty of room.  Next car behind is also turning left, I slow down not sure if she will wait for me, she does so I keep going.  Next thing I know the car behind her is swerving around her on the left going about 60mph with blue smoke blaring from her exhaust.  She missed me by about 6 inches, but in the process hits the car turning left.  She claims her brakes failed, yet she stopped not 30 feet from where we all ended up. I was doing my best to stay upright while going into the ditch and jammed my ankle and of course that still hurts now. Waited over 30 mins for the cops to get there to give my account of the story before soft pedaling back to the car.  It's the closest I have ever come to dying on the bike and am still a little shaken by the whole thing.

Wow so glad to hear you were able to bike away!  It seems it is always just a matter of time until everyone encounters this at some point with enough riding.  Again glad you are ok!

Suzy - first of all I am so happy you are ok.  I swear I think about getting squished on the open road everytime I'm out.  I hope that keeps me more alert.  I also hope the ankle is just a little banged up and nothing more.
