kkcbelle - 2010-06-18 10:45 AM Thanks for the bike rack comments!! I was lying in bed this morning (because I didn't have to get up at the crack to work out to get home to get the kids off to school cuz SCHOOL'S OUT [at long last] and I get to do my **very short** run while they're at swim practice later this morning!)... anyway, I was lying there thinking about how I can get the darn shelves out of the garage so have more room to pull car forward to keep bike rack on. It will involve some work on my part (dammit) but I'm going to think through it. In reality, I may not need to move multiple bikes THAT often, but the kids are becoming better and better bike riders and can do more and better rides (daughter now has a gear bike), but we can only go about 2 miles from home before there are significant hills. They can be a buzzkill at the end of a "this is supposed to be fun, kids!" ride -- hence the wish to make it easy to move multiple bikes around.

Happy race prep, peeps who are getting 'er done this weekend!!

A sledge hammer is a wonderful tool for making room.

kkcbelle - 2010-06-17 5:55 PM REAL QUESTION:

Does anyone have a bike rack on a minivan, likes, dislikes, products to recommend? It's time for us to take care of this -- we plan to get a hitch installed and a hitch mount bike rack. Current problem is that our garage isn't long enough to keep the rack on the car and the car in the garage. My husband seems to think this is a total non-issue and I can just put the bike rack on every time I want to take multiple bikes out. I think he's full of it. But seeing has he has yet to ride his bike since we've lived in WA (almost 6 years), clearly he does not know that of which he speaks. Anyway, if anyone has any real-life experiences to share, I'm all ears!

ETA: We could fit rack on car in garage if we moved some shelves, but that isn't flying so far with the hubby. (Can you tell my priority is bikes on the car and his isn't!?

When you stop by the house today I will show you the bike rack we use!! We love it!  Only downside... A little heavy but none of us are wimps here.

SSMinnow - 2010-06-16 6:35 AM Who's already thinking about the weekend and their big race?????  Excited? Freaking Out? Give us the scoop.

Since so many people are racing in the next couple of weeks, tell us the #1 thing you do after you've hit the finish line to ensure recovery? And I swear if John says Beer I am coming to TX with some chocolate milk!

{Finally raises his hand.}

I am racing this weekend.  I have been out of town all week (heading home on the train now), and leave again Sunday night for another several weeks.  So, after a lengthy negotiation, wife and I agreed that I could do the sprint this weekend and not the Oly.  That way I could spend the bulk of Sunday with the kids before flying back out.  Here's the kicker:  my sprint wave goes off at 5:35 (yes, 5:35).  Distances are 800m, 20k, 6.7k.  If all goes as planned, I should be home before 8am.  I really see this as a C race, but, as always, am looking forward to the event.

Good luck to all our racers this weekend.

My legs have done wonders for me. I appreciate them daily!!

And that is the best forecast news I've heard yet. I was stressing out about 88 degrees, but keeping it to myself. 68 would be looooooverrrrrrrly!!!

Love dark chocolate/GM! A fine, fine choice!

So your bike is all gone? Did you get your fit tweaked again?

9 days. Holy Toledo!!

HI Gang...haven't caught up on the posts yet, but I did see those legs....hubba, hubba!  You girls that wear those heels put me to shame.  Why is it the shortest MG member always wears flats????

Did my practice swim in 3-4 foot waves.  I can honestly say I have never experienced anything like this before. Holy sh$t.  My training partner ending up getting motion sickness and nearly puked on the way back in.   Check out the flags blowing in the wind that comes from the ocean....uh, I mean lake.

Those are nasty lake waves, Suzy!! I hope they die down tomorrow!

On one of my OWS the lake was really calm, except for a few swells of a far-away boat that came through. They were very lulling... swell uuuuup/swell doowwwwn... and they really upset my stomach. I felt very pukey after swimming in those, as did my OWS partner that day. It's like being seasick IN the water. That's just not right.

Rock the races tomorrow, peeps!!

Oh, and I met our fearless leader's better other half today when I was picking up his race wheels that he's loaning me (THANKS STEVE!!!). I was half tempted to ditch the wheels and ask if she could come along to CDA with me instead -- what a cheerleader!! Kim was soooo nice and encouraging and supportive. Saw their latest baby pictures too. Darling!!!!!! U/S technology has come a long way since I birthed my babes!!
