Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did a 1 hour run this morning and then watched the men's Olympic Triathlon. I won't post any spoilers but let's just say I'm pretty disappointed with what happened. Going for an open water swim after work today. It's been a few weeks since I was able to do so so that will be nice. Hoping for no jellyfish! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning! Chris - wow, sounds super fantastic! Anyway, didn't sleep all that well. Intentions of hopping on the bike were ditched in favour of sleeping more. Went to see if we could catch the men's triathlon this morning and found that it was on a channel we don't get Today, likely becomes a rest day - which is fine by me. I am tired and my feet and lower legs are still sore from dancing my tail off in high heels at my sister's wedding on the weekend. Good news is that I am getting a massage tonight after work which is long overdue. |

No triathlon stuff there - all about her. I was a bridesmaid so Saturday was spent doing hair, waiting, doing makeup, waiting, getting dressed, waiting, ceremony, waiting, photos, waiting .... hahahaha - i sound like I didn't enjoy myself but it was a really nice day and it was great to be there for her and see all kinds of family. As for training, well, it continues. Open water swim planned for today and chores. Since today is a glorious holiday. I started my packing list as we plan to leave next Sunday. Anything you recommend that isn't on the normal packing list? I'll have to catch up now ... This is my full packing list for IM Melbourne, as well as what went into all my transition/special needs bags. Don't laugh. I'm a chick and I was going to be there for weeks. Yanti - when I first opened the list up I thought, "well that is not so bad." But then I saw there were multiple worksheets.... wow - that is one detailed list - right down to the 3am lubing schedule....! Jen just making a list is a great idea. For my races (and even for significant trips) I usually try to start laying things out about a week to 10 days in advance (unfortunately it is most often in our dining room). That way I am able to just add stuff to the piles as I think of it. I have found that the list of what I have ACTUALLY packed (and where) is probably the most important list - I usually cannot remember otherwise and wind up sticking in duplicates of things at the last minute because I simply cannot remember if I have already packed something, and whether or not I put it in my gear bag, my bike case, my luggage, etc. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tri808 - 2012-08-06 1:25 PM LOL...this is why you don't use an Iphone video to try and deterimine the winners of a sprint finish. You're likely to get it wrong. Again...no big deal...but this photo was from a friend who was spectating. But on the flip side, since I didn't win anyway, I'm glad they saved the money and did not use timing chips because they had beer after the race. Jason - well I wish they had used video instead of just the camera - I would have loved to see how fast that 3rd place dude was moving to catch you at the line like he did... |

On Saturday, the wedding day the girls were busy "getting ready". Guys: "getting ready". Good times Dang - and here I was thinking you were going to post up pictures from Friday night... Awesome ride nonetheless - Mt. Hood is spectacular! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-08-06 5:17 PM Rode 100 miles today on little sleep. I plan on a 3 hr ride next weekend and that's really it for the long stuff. I truthfully won't miss the long rides like today's next year as I just need an ironman break for a few years. I much prefer rides with the road bike anyway. As far as the bike fit, I adjusted 3 times on the ride. I ended up raising the seat a bit as I knew it was too low. Was getting some front of knee soreness initially which improved with the higher seat. I feel as though the fit is not quite right yet, but am not able to get to Philadelphia to get re fit by Elite. I might go to my lbs, but they have a different philosophy to fit and I'm not sure. Anyone here feel as though they would be willing to offer an opinion on my fit if I post a few pics in the next day or two? Fred, I don't know much about proper bike fitting, but with my professional background in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design I will be happy to to give you candid criticism of everything else in the photos you post. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() axteraa - 2012-08-06 5:21 PM Interesting that you prefer your road setup. I could ride my P3 all day but I can't say the same for my roadie. Granted I've never been given a proper fitting on the road bike. I was in the same boat, but when I got my new road bike my fitter wanted to see my TT bike setup prior to working on the road bike. He worked with me on position on both bikes and tweaked my fit ever so slightly on the TT rig. Since then it seems I can go back and forth between the two very easily. But I will agree with Fred - I am really looking forward to getting out on the road bike a lot more now that IM training is in the books. Not really because it is more comfortable, but rather just because it is a different riding style. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Chris - congratulations on your 20th - the anniversary sounds like it is going well! Both my wife and I actually forgot our anniversary last week while we were on vacation - she says it is because everyday seems like our anniversary. Very sweet sentiment of course, but I better not forget her birthday this weekend. I am pretty sure that everyday does not feel like her birthday... |

I need the lists because I'm the most disorganized, forgetful, and last-minute person ever. I literally didn't lay my stuff out and pack until the night I was leaving, and then the electricity went out ... good thing my laptop was juiced and I had flashlights. I like your days-ahead piles idea, and I'll just check-mark the lists as I go. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is a fairly climby ride I went on yesterday: http://app.strava.com/rides/16949507 In late september we have a relatively famous local century called "6 Gap" that I like to do, but there is a lesser known (and more infamous) 200k a couple of weeks prior called 10 Gap/Bundrick's Revenge that features somewhere between 15,000 and 16,000 feet of climbing. I have been thinking about giving it a shot this year as it is one of the regional 200k brevets. I have my eye on possibly shooting for Paris/Brest/Paris in 2015, which means I need to really get serious about getting in "go-long" shape again soon... After yesterday's ride I am pretty sure I am nowhere close to being ready for even the 200k. |

Hey Rusty - have you ever done the Michigan Mountain Mayhem course while you are visiting in northern Michigan? I bet you would enjoy that...gets great reviews. Edited by rymac 2012-08-07 4:10 PM |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Swam ~3600 meters tonight in an ocean harbour. For some reason my wetsuit chaffed the heck out of my neck and underarms tonight - never had that before that bad. I often get it on the right side of my neck and always body glide there but tonight it was more than that. Maybe the salt water? who knows. |

![]() Yeah...I would be looking for a little more knee bend on the bottom of the stroke. Looks like it might be an inch too high. How did you determine the seat height when you put this frame together? Did you go off your previous seat height? Did you have saved measurements? Or did you just try to eyeball it and go by feel? ETA: I know you mentioned you don't have time to see your fitter, but does he have your measurements saved? Maybe he can walk you through over the phone how best to use those measurements to get you "as close as possible" and see how that feels. Edited by tri808 2012-08-07 7:28 PM |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would drop the seat until you can put your heels on the pedals with the crank at 6'oclock. Then take a pic with the crank at around 5:25 rather than the 6 o'clock you have there. Then your knee angle could be better measured A youtube while pedalling would be better |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred, It still looks like your seat could be lowered just a bit more. Are you using the same saddle, shoes, pedals? Edited by Catwoman 2012-08-07 8:26 PM |
