Ironman tracking has been problematic for me today -- the web version still has TJ at my 32 of the bike.  The mobile version had her 105 mile split at 7:39:35 with a current estimate of finishing the bike just before 5:30 eastern time.

I had that problem too. I've been able to watch her on the tracker map on my phone. Not using the downloaded app, just tracking from the mobile website. At the bottom of the athlete tracker screen, there's a thingie for "map". It shows where she is on the route in nearly real time.

From what I hear, water temp was 77.9 so not WTC wetsuit legal.

The first bike split is at 32.3...

I wish Louisville's swim was like Chattanooga's- if it were i may not look so pathetic

I understand Augusta wasn't wetsuit legal as well.

CHOO isn't a full 17 hour cutoff so I think it's only fair they have the downstream swim :D GO TJ!!!!!

i don't begrudge them the downstream swin, I'm just jealous. it seems like the fall IMs all have less then 17 hrs.  LOuisville is 16.5, so not as bad as Choo, especially since Choo also has a long bike!

Of course not. Just teasing.

Yeah they are short because of shorter daylight. Kinda sucks.

GO TJ!! I'm jealous--no downriver swim for Worlds. It was upriver most of the way. They had said something about turning down the flow from the dam on race day, but when I looked at the river on race morning, it looked the same as the day before--current was substantial.

Just seemed like the whole darned thing was UP! Upriver and uphill. It was wetsuit-legal though for age-groupers, barely; not for pros. Not that it would have mattered much for me. I'm a decent swimmer and actually would rather NOT wear the wetsuit if it's warm enough. But plenty of other issues that day!

Each athlete has a maximum of 16.5 hours from the time they criss the starting mat on the dock at the swim start.

Hey, Stacey and the rest of the Manatees. Just jumping in for a moment to cheer for TJ. I'm ok. Still not running or biking after chipping a bone in my foot in December. Now I have tendonitis in 2 tendons that connect my ankle and foot. It's been a looooong 9 months.

Just saw on FB that TJ has passed 13.1 mi., is feeling better (the 2 previous splits were a little rough), and she's powering through. Go TJ!!!

Last year it was 16. They changed it to 16.5 this year. They also changed the swim start to self seeded by speed. Fastest first. Last year it was first come first serve. They are also opening transition later and no Saturday package pick up. So make sure you are there by 5:00 on Friday.

Years ago it was just first come, first serve. Ridiculous as some would get people to hold their spot, or teams would hold for each other, bumping everyone way back. I'm quick on things when I want and still ended up with ~3/4 of the field ahead of me.

It also wasn't a definite overall amount of time to complete as they always had a TT start with the jump off the pier. There was no way to get a mass start in there. You just had until midnight to finish and people who went earlier did have longer.

The upstream part is somewhat shielded by the island for a fair part of it, and is also closer to shore. Reading currents can help here as there was more of it towards the middle, so those who moved out some after the turn got more of an assist from it.
