I hope all the US people had a great time celebrating yesterday and you were smarter than I am and took today off work. Definitely leave early if you can! There is NO point to the office being open today, so I'm hoping they'll close up shop early... or at least have a firm happy hour starting around 4pm or so? I could live with that. |

I hope all the US people had a great time celebrating yesterday and you were smarter than I am and took today off work. Nope, I am at work, waiting for the beer to get cold. I get to jam with a friend this afternoon at happy hour, so time is dragging. I do have things to do, but I am avoiding them pretty well The office is an absolute ghost town today. There are NO lawyers here, other than the managing partner, and I'm hoping that once they realize NO ONE is here they might let us leave early... probably not, but I'm going to keep hoping (and until 5pm I shall avoid doing as much work as possible) |

If we're able to go early, then great - and if not, then it's just another work day... with a LOT less people in the office than normal. |

The second act had a scene/song that had me laughing so hard I was crying - and the lead character was absolutely perfect... if the tickets weren't so (insert whichever expletive you prefer here) expensive, I'd want to see it again just so I could try and catch the lines that I missed from laughing too hard. The couple behind us ended up leaving after the first act - my guess is they were horribly offended as I kept hearing her ask "did they REALLY just say that???" Um... yep, it's from the South Park guys, of course they went THERE! |

I'd like to see a python. Does she have any pythons?" LOL The other day I wondered where that garden hose had come from and ... oh ... Garter snake? You've sparked an identify venomous vs non-venomous lesson for my son....very useful for living in the AZ desert. Yes, garter snake. Those are rather harmless. Fyi, if your son is capable of forming a sentence like that, then he's probably fast enough to catch one. He'd just need to figure out how without getting bit. I never tried, just observed. From being around poisonous ones, generally it's best to assume it is unless you know for sure it's not. Still amazed with how much shows up out the front door. That picture is literally one step outside. Lots of things have shown up too. Had a toad as big as my fist. Usually spiders seem attracted for some reason. Mostly unimpressive ones, except for this garden spider. Body is almost as big as my thumb and the web was several feet across with that pattern on it. Much too impressive to get rid of, and it was just enough out of the way not to be an issue. (_DSC7718.jpg) Attachments ---------------- _DSC7718.jpg (44KB - 12 downloads) |

Master 6595![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)I am on furlough day #3 today, so I went shopping Originally I was going to the train station to get a bike box for DS2 to take my old bike back to SoCal with him. Then DH asked me to stop a REI (drat) to pick up some chews and gels. So while I was at REI I spotted an adorable bike jersey that matches Fi beautifully so, of course, I had to buy it. As for critters, there was a black widow building her web in my charcoal starter yesterday. That didn't end well for her. We had a bull snake crawl across the patio last summer while we were out there eating, while my brother and SIL were here! Funny thing about that was that day we'd visited the rattlesnake museum (which is a misnomer because most of the snakes there are alive) and my SIL hates snakes!!! |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Spiders, ~shudder~. There have been scant few that were on my 'good' list, don't really like 'em and tend to freak out a bit when I see one. Odd, considering my hockey team is the Black Widows (it took a while for me to be OK with wearing the jersey). Generally if they know their place, namely not in my house or car, they may live. The two I came to like were pretty cool. One (don't know what type) I named Seven Legs (guess why) and the other I don't think I named, I just monitored it with fascination. It was a yellow garden spider and would re-spin its web daily. I'd catch bugs for it and throw it into its web for it to wrap up and suck to a lifeless husk. |

Master 3870![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)I pulled a "dummy move" last night. Daughter has been having trouble sleeping in her own bed after storms this week. Now door is open and night light on, but she still came in last night about 1:30. She snuggled in between us. Then my son came in at 3 (issues sleeping this week, too), but after checking both sides of the bed, there was "No (whimper, whimper) room, mom." So I sent him back to his own bed with the promise that I would put Mak back in hers and then come lay with him. Then they both wanted water. OK, mommy will get water. I got them water, right after misjudging and sliding down last steps, wrenching my shoulder (I was being "safe" and holding rail), giving my bad knee a good pop and twisting my right ankle. I just stayed on the floor for a minute to make sure nothing had shooting pain. Nope. All worked well enough to get water. And, of course, NONE of this slipping and sliding disturbed anyone else. LOL Had plans to run today, but right foot is sore. How much should I just HTFU? On a happy note, I got a sitter for 6am Sunday so DH and I can go for a long ride BEFORE it reaches 110*. It'll be my first real hill climbing! Wheeee!!!! |

The hoglets were a bit earlier than expected, but we knew they would show up. Red River Hogs are native to central Africa, they do typical pig things, have a tendency to rip arms off of people given half the chance, and will do just about anything for Cheerios. (no, I am not kidding about any of that.) The Red Panda-let (Pandlet? Pandittle???) is 26 days old, we had to remove him from his momma cause her milk was not sustaining or increasing his weight, so we (well, supervisors and vet staff, anyway) are hand-rearing him and feeding him now. Red Pandas are very rare, and there are two subspecies, the greater and lesser red pandas---the lesser are less dark red and a bit less fluffy (and smaller); we have the lesser. They are notoriously hard to keep alive in their first 30 days, as the parents aren't always the best --either not attentive enough, or WAY to protective (I'll spare the gory details, but it is NOT pretty.) Hopefully this guy will do okay. He's our first Panda baby in 8 years. Have you had enough people tell you that you have one of the coolest jobs ever today, because you're about to hear it one more time: You are the chit. That is so faching awesome! Lesser Red Panda? WTF? That is C-R-A-Z-Y awesome. How long does it take the hoglets to be big enough to be arm rippers? Are the moms crazy protective? |

Ummmm... non-venomous, of course. We are really careful around here with spiders and snakes...and recently bees. Southern AZ now has Africanized colonies. Bees haven't been something I want to make my kids "scared" of. They're so necessary/helpful and cool. Nice garden spider! Glad you let him have his bit of space. We try to live and let live; teaching the kids that (most) critters have a purpose, even the scary ones. Even most bugs and spiders get tossed back outside if we can manage it. They both have little bug catcher cages.

Elite 4435![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Had a great morning though it started with a sleep in which wasn't planned, finally got out to run around 9.45 ran 90mins trying to stay in zone 2 - pretty tricky! Means I have to walk any hills coz I bounce into Z5 straight away. I was slower than usual but it felt good, on the way back had heaps of energy. Came home put Scooby in the car and went to the beach. He isn't real good at coming back so a lot of that walk was on the leash until he gets trained properly. Then I took him to the enclosed doggy park where he met his two husky friends Pia and Dino and the Rottweiler Zeus. His best friends in the world. Home now and it's time to clean. Here's me and my loved ones.
