I'm from the Midwest (Illinois), and we traditionally had a big bowl of soup beans and ham hocks w/cornbread for New Years day. Out here in Idaho, alot of my 'transplant' friends also say 'beans' are a tradition in their families. Black eyed peas in chili sound like something I'll have to try. I'm from the hills of Tennessee so it's my family thing. I've found people who don't know about it but not many, no matter where they're from. |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() I tried a new recipe I saw on TV. A buffalo chicken potato casserole. It was REALLY tasty (even if it wasn't that gourmet). Our tradition is more New Years Morning since my wife is always working NYE and I always spend it alone trying to comfort my dogs who freak out at the fireworks. I did a home made eggs benedict, home made cinnamon rolls, and mimosas to celebrate with the wife and the FIL.

Where I grew up Posole (hominy) was the traditional New Years day food. Every year I consider making it only to be so sick of eating by NYE that I never do. One of these years I'll make it in July just to have some. Our current family tradition is to take the kids to a great pizza place down the street. They have a bunch of old school $0.25 video games and pinball so the kids love hanging out there. |

You did, of course, serve that on a '57 Chevy hubcap as is tradition, right? After all... (sit down) There's no plate like chrome for the hollandaise... |

I rank in the new year on GMT (6PM here) and maybe again on Nova Scotia time (11PM here), but was out like a light when the ball dropped in NYC. We've done pork and sauerkraut (had that on the 28th), corned beef and cabbage (this year's dish), dad always wanted fish, and of course everyone here does collard greens and black-eyed peas. |
