Turns out I'm a Lesbian Studies Professor & lecturer!
BTW, on a serious note: Oprah did a show a few years ago about a stalker with a web site devoted to a girl he was obsessed with - posted all sorts of stuff about how he was going to kill her. Sadly, he did. The lesson is that if anyone had just googled her name, they would have found his twisted web site, and perhaps averted her death. Since then, I periodically google myself, my sisters, and female friends, just to check that nothing scary is going on.
Keep safe ladies.

It would appear I am a champion horseshoe player.  In Canada.  Man, I'm neither Canadian nor a horseshoe player.  This must mean I need to do something more substantial with my life.

I googled myself last year and besides the usual race results, it had turned out that I won 8th place for Women's Cat 4 Road Racing in BC. It said something about how I had missed the ceremony and that I should contact someone to pic up my medal. So I did and I got my medal. I never even knew, so I am glad that I googled myself.

This year I set a goal to do better than 8th place and I am faster than last year, but there is also more competition.

I think as long as you do it in the privacy of your or own home, and don't post pictures of yourself googling on the 'net, then probably. Not sure about Mississippi, though.

Well among other things, I'm the head basketball coach at North Georgia State, I offer fine furniture making  courses, and I played tight end for the Florida Gators and was drafted in the 4th round by the Dallas Cowboys

I never would have thought of this until about a year ago when someone else Googled me to figure out how to contact me, because they knew I had rescued their blind cat off of the river (long, crazy  story). Anyway, before that it never occured to me that I'd be Googleable.  So mostly it's just race reports, and a couple of times I have turned up in group newsletters (biking group, running group).

But here's what I thought was funny.  There was a woman named Tania Boyce-Bacon who went to Tikipunga High School in Whangarie, New Zealand from 1973-1976.  Apparently someone was trying to find her through Old Friends.com and it turns out her married name is now Tania Drinkwater.  On purpose she has this crazy name!  I'd tell my husband to forget it!

As it turns out I might be the drummer for the doors. You wouldn't beleive how many people back int he 90's emailed me wanting interviews. It was really bad when I was in college. My school was in Melbourne, and as it turned out another guy from the Doors lived in Melbourne. I could not convince people I wasn't the drummer. Ohh yeah, google is evil, try to use another search engine.

Absolutely bizarre.

I've been active on usenet since 1993, originally under my real name.  I laboriously removed most of them from google, but there are a bunch of other portals now that access usenet feeds and present them as their own content, i.e., TalkAbout.  Years and years of my posts are shown as "expert advice" on various subjects and they sell ads based on my subject matter.  It's creepy.

The weirdest google hit was an article on an e-magazine.   Nearly the entire article was cribbed from a usenet post I did on a specific subject and she quoted me extensively.  No, I was never interviewed, that's just how the author handled the plagiarism issue.

I feel pretty unsettled by all the people making money off of my writing when I never made a dime - in fact, have years of access charges racked up.

Any e-law experts out there? I know usenet posts aren't copyrighted, but does that give others free reign to use them (and profit from them) as they like?

Is it just me, or does everyone goolge everybody? Not to hijack the thread, but I thought this was just something people do. Any other closet googlers want to come out?

I usually check the sheriff's office for online inquiries to see if they've been in jail in the past five years, check the FDLE sex offender lists, stuff like that.  Google is last.  I usually check my neighbors, my kids' parents (they're young, so not the kids... yet), and new people we meet.  Yeah, I'm nosey.

I also look up house prices in the Property Appraisers website- see how much houses on my street sold for.  come in handy when we finally decide to sell and move up.

Did I say I'm nosey?

Christine, I am also hooked on the property appraiser web site!  I look up stuff on there all the time.  There is also a public records web site where you can see how much peoples' mortgages are, if they are in foreclosure, if they are being sued, etc.  So I am nosy too.

I'm surprised but it seems there are a lot of me out there. Oddly enough, most of them that I've seen so far are artsy types: painters, musicians, illustrators and authors; or a few others were firemen; and one guy who's restoring a classic motorcycle. None of them were the real me though.

I must be way back in the list.

I am still the contact at a couple of former jobs, I see a couple of my posts on trainingpeaks.com, and posts on adoption search sites, which I had forgotten about. I guess I should check my account and see if my bio mom found me.....My name is quite unusual so I don't get to be anyone else on google....

Not a lawyer, but any lawyer who knows the Internet would also know that legally all Usenet post belong to the original author. This has been an issue several times as Usenet archives have been moved from server to server over the years with the most recent move from Deja to Google. Permission is defacto given to any Usenet (and Usenet only) server to serve the posts. Anyone using those posts outside fo their original context (Usenet or Usenet archives) without the express written permission of the original poster is in violation of the original posters copyright. You will notice that not even Google places advertising next to Usenet postings when you use the Google Groups service - it would be in violation of the original posters copyright.

As I said I'm not a lawyer - but I am a geek.
