Denver

Do I have to anything more than THE MOUNTAINS? How about winter in THE MOUNTAINS. Spring in THE MOUNTAINS. SUMMER in THE MOUNTAINS. Fall in THE MOUNTAINS. And there are more registered dogs than voters in Summit County where I used to live. Although I do miss the food from NY - PIZZA & Deli's & bagels especially.

check out Benny Blancos slice of the bronks on 13th ave between Pearl and Washington. And around the corner is Denver Ted's philly cheese steaks.

Now that I am packing up to leave Denver, a list of what I love about it might bring me to tears.

Anyone know what is to love about Winnemucca, NV?

Well I was going to sat Winnemucca is fun to say too but Kim beat me to it. I think I stopped for gas there once and if I remember right their on and off ramps were very convenient. I bet you can see alot of stars out there.

Never been to Benny Blancos, I'll have to try it. I've gone to Abo's a few times which is 1/2 way decent for out here.

What I like about Middle-of-Nowhere Pennsylvanie:

- I'm less than 3 hours away from some awesome cities (NYC, PHL, DC, BALT)
- I'm an hour and a half away from the nearest big city
- Lots of farmland and low traffic roads to ride my bike
- "Honor System" produce and egg stands
- Clean Air
- Cheap gasoline that I'm allowed to pump for myself
- Rakestraw's Ice Cream - well, not necessarily the ice cream (blech - frozen milk fat), but they have awesome sherbet
- The general store lets me sign for my receipts and send me a bill every month - and it's a block from my hourse - can you say UPS shipping on Sundays?
- A big yard for my dogs
- Our mayor knows me by name and invites me in to see his new toys if I'm running past his house (he got a Bobcat for Christmas)

What I like about other places (just the highlights):
- PHL - Pat's King of Steaks, the art Museum
- NYC - um, everything
- Ontario (and Canada in general) - the friendliest people on the face of the earth. Period. Oh, and the shipwrecks.
- The Bahamas - Goombay Punch
- Barbados - the diving, conch fritters and 1,001 dishes that you can make from flying gunnards
- Puerto Rico - everything except for the traffic. Piraguas, Old San Juan, the diving, Mona Island
- Oklahoma - seeing the sun set at the horizon for the first time in my life
I could go on, but I won't

I love living in Rochester during the summertime it has great festivals and people. Driving distance to Toronto and Cleavland and Lake Placid. The Finger Lakes Are Gorgeous. I hate the taxes, The snow(about a hundred inches a year or more) and the cold.

What I love about living in Ft. Lauderdale:
-this is going to be a short list as I'm not too fond of the place....but here goes nothing.

    1. 20 minutes from the beach
    2. Warm weather year round
    3. Playing the "which person has had plastic surgery?" game
    4. I'm 30 miles from my parents
    5. Great shopping-everyone here is very fashion concious
    6. Seeing beautiful, exotic cars
    7.  Lots of events going on- concerts, arts festivals, comedy shows, boat shows, film festivals, awards shows

What I don't like about Ft. Lauderdale:
    1. People CANNOT freaking drive to save their lives (I-95, I rest my case)
    2. Tourists especially cannot drive
    3. People are mean here, there's no southern hospitality- it's "my way or the highway" mentality around here
    4. Everything is really expensive (food, clothes, etc.)
    5. Too much emphasis on plastic surgery, beauty, etc. (They even did a series about 2 plastic surgeons at a hosptial here that aired on Discovery health channel)
    5. I don't care about the Dolphins, or University of Miami
    6. There's no nature here. No place to bike really or go for hikes or camping. I have met several people who have been hit by cars on A1A while biking.

    Delray Beach, Fl...

I love Delray: I live 1 mile from the beach, I can run, bike and swim..... year round (pretty much).
I live 5 minutes from Downtown Delray (nice restaurants and bars area), I can go partying and be back home in 5 minutes.
Most of my friends live pretty close.
2:45 minutes plane ride to Caracas (where my family lives)
Delray is a little town with a little town feel close to big cities. Still, it is not a suburb. Unfortunately it has become really expensive place to live.

    What I don't like:
No Mountains, No mountains, No mountains
    Hurricanes
Too close to the party area (hard to say no LOL)
Miami, Ft Lauderdale, West Palm Beach are the next silicone city... not because of computers but breast implants. Everyone has one! Hard to resist peer pressure when you are 34A.
Hard to find very good retaurants.
    Very few museums around.

Exactly... we could move to Nebraska, or Texas, or Indiana and get set up pretty nicely. We wouldn't be in CHICAGO, I understand... but when people are paying $450,000 for a one car garage, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with a small yard near the railroad tracks... you gotta wonder... (not by a STATION, mind you... just the actual TRACKS)
That same $450,000 could buy you a 5500 sq. foot MANSION with LAND in Houston... I understand it wouldn't be in CHICAGO... but like I said... we'd be set up pretty nicely.

    Holy Crap!
You get a yard for $450,000. That will only buy you a condo here in SD

Kim - I've been through Paonia...twice.  Once comin' and once goin'.  Actually my inlaws live on Hidden Mesa just east of Delta.  BEAUTIFUL country.  Could live out there in a heart beat.

As far as my hometown #1 - Bloomington/Normal, IL....

Beer Nuts, Steak 'N' Shake, The Pub II, Small Town feel, The Pub II, Schooner's King Tenderloin (and wings too), Cheeseballs at The Pub II, I drive for an hour from where I lived and I'm in Peoria - an hour from where I live now and I'm in Westminster/Broomfield, The Pub II...oh yeah, did I mention The Pub II?

Current home - Centennial, CO - Too many to list.

I've been wanting to reply to this thread, but have yet to think of anything good about Houston... I see I'm not alone in this as noone from Texas has yet to respond... the bad as I see it are: too much air pollution, excessive heat and humidity, no seasonal changes, and mold grows on everything from homes to cars to plants. When can I move!!!!

Now for other places that I love:

    Ft. Riley, Kansas
    - close military community
    - four seasons
    - snow
    - K-state minutes away for cultural and althelic events
    - open area for the kids and dog to run till hearts content

    Lancaster, PA
see scuba-punk's remarks - he summed it up well - he makes me homesick for my native state!!!!

Wow, Cathleen, Houston must be pretty bad to miss Lancaster.... I guess I miss a few things - leaves turning color in the fall, biking on hilly country roads..... But in general, I have not missed PA since moving away 20 years ago - man, are we old.... But I guess I never lived in Houston....

I lived in Houston for 2 years, and can't think of a thing to miss about it other than good Mexican food.

On the other hand, Colorado rocks!!  I love the mountains, the weather, the blue sky, the people, the activities, and everything   That's why I moved back here, after all.

With the exception of Houston, everyone's civic pride is something to behold! I grew up on California's Central Coast and I reallllly miss the ocean, but I knew what I was doing when I moved; if I hadn't I'd still be surfing 2 times a day and wondering why I just got fired for not showing up to work instead.

Having said that...what do I like about Tucson?

Let me see. Yesterday I put in 40 miles on the bike in 65 degree sunny weather. With all the rain we've had recently the desert is going to explode with color for the next month or so. Spring training is starting up and I'll catch a few ballgames for next to nothing. And sorry everyone in San Diego and Houston, but we've got the best Mexican food around!

    1. 4 minute drive to work...
    2. "Rush Hour" is when you don't make it to the bridge to the "Northside" before the train and it adds another 2 minutes to get home...
    3. Fireworks over the Lake
    4. Best thing about winter is the snow filling in the pot holes...

Personally I hate everything else about this town, especially the people. Mostly because I grew up in Houston (Humble, Tomball, Spring), D.C. and Dallas and love the southern way of life. People here are extremely rude and closed minded and the weather drives me insane.

Of course I've only been here a year and haven't met everyone, so I am still trying to give this place a chance before giving up entirely and trying to find a way out...

    Kingston!

    1. Water water everywhere...from Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence to the hundreds  of freshwater lakes nearby.  Makes open water swimming very accessible!
    2. Lots of camping and hiking nearby
    3. Easy to get to Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and the US
    4. Excellent and safe cycling routes outside of the city
    5. Lots of young people around because of Queen's U. and RMC

Winters suck. Not cold enough to maintain snow to play in, not warm enough for the little bit of crappy snow to go away.  Way too much freezing precipitation going on - bad driving all the time.

Kingston is one of the worst places for allergies, and don't I know it!!
