There's really just one hill that I saw a high percentage of people walking last year:

Less than a month to go.  Any other east coasters making the trip out?  How are you shipping your bike?  I am bummed that TriBikeTransport is not making the cross country trip.

I would avoid using UPS.  I shipped my bike with them to New Orleans....they used my bike as a soccer ball.  Three months later and I'm still dealing with the insurance!

Thanks.  It looks like I am bringing it with me on the plane.  I need the bike here as long as possible to get more rides in.

I am nervous and excited about the race - this will be my third time but I haven't raced here since 2006! I would love to meet up with people at the start - just to say hi. Is anyone staying at the Flamingo?

I wouldn't mind either! I'm travelling solo from Phoenix, so it would be nice to whine about my nerves to someone!

I am up for it.  Athough the family is making the trip, they are staying with friends in Oak and I will be by myself on Sat night.

Does anyone have suggestions as to the best place to family and friends to "watch" the race....My wife will be with me at the swim start, and then her plan was to meet some people and find a place to watch the bike and run portion.   I was not sure if just camping our around T2 is the best place......

T2 is nice.  If they are just cheering you on that can be a long day waiting.   One place would be on the curve as you enter into Geyerville (spelling doesn't count).   You'll be slowing down and they will have a town for supplies.

Also, I like Chalk Hill too.  You'll probably enjoy the company as you're heading up the hill.

However, my favorite place is on the bottom of Chalk Hill when you turn left onto Fraught.  I hung out there last year during the full waiting for people go by.  You can park your car and set up chairs.  Upon Fraught you bike up a hill--which I always consider my personal TdF hill.    I chased a couple of racers up the hill cheering them on.

The run is an out and back.  You can hang out anywhere on the course and cheer like a crazy person.  La Creme would be another place--and you can drink!

Anyone got any ideas where to meet? The expo? I am going to try and be at the noon talk on Saturday. It would be nice to see people after the talk?

I don't know the area, but I am up for a pre-race dinner on Sat.

Does anyone else find it strange that they are keeping transition open until the last wave goes on?  My wave doesn't start til 8am.  I may sleep in

My wave does not start until 8:15AM.  I was hoping they would keep transition open.  I am staying an hour away and will actually get some sleep...

Has anyone done the Vineman and the Longhorn in Austin, TX? I did the Longhorn in October, and I was just wondering if anybody out there has done both and could tell me how they compare. I've never been to northern CA, and I'm really looking forward to it. It looks beautiful up there! I just hope the run on this course isn't as hilly as the Longhorn was. Ouch!

Did full Vineman (same course) and Longhorn 70.3 last yr.
Longhorn swim was short. Both in flat calm water.
Vineman bike significantly hillier but still not very hilly. Longhorn was pretty much flat. Expecting sameish temperatures. Longhorn was windy and vineman shouln't be as windy.
Run is pretty similar. Longhorn might have been a little hillier.
I think Vineman is more scenic
