If ya could only do lets say 2 HIM's, would this one be in the top 2 definates?

On the bike, not bad at all - a few rollers around mile 20, a short but steep one at 45 w/ an aid station at the top. It's the run that's got the demon hill. twice.

Just mentally prepare yourself for a dozen moderate rollers.  Mentally, I went into it thinking it was a flat bike course ... it's not, not at all.  As mentioned, it's not a tough bike course either -- there is only one killer climb -- I think it's around Mile 40, but it is a gradual incline all the way; there are rollers a plenty, and (unless they change the last 5 miles, or pave those roads!) the final 10 minutes is on roads that had the biggest potholes I'd ever experienced. The last few miles are like what I would imagine it would be riding on the Gaza Strip!!

Rhode Island is picturesque, the beach swim is beautiful, Providence is a tiny but cool little city.  You will not be disappointed. 

Question: Does anyone know what capacity this race is at?  I know it did not sell out last year, but I have a feeling it will this year.

OK...the last few miles of the race suck but the west end of PVD is not GAZA for pete's sake! I mean, come on, it lends a little action to an otherwise average bike.

Best part of the ride was seeing an ORIGINAL Buddy Cianci re-election sign sitting in a second floor window about 1 mile into providence!

I am doing Eagleman on June 14th, and going on vacation for a week at the end of July, but I still want to see if I can swing RI cause I had so much fun last year.  Looks I have a little bit of time to decide still.

I hope everyone has started their Hill Repeats!!  I may sound like a broken annoying record now, but you'll 'thank me' come Race Day when you are hitting that HiLL for the second time!!

I'm 75% sure that I'm in for this year.  Planning a full in Oct. and figured this HIM would be a good mid-training race.  Besides, I'm a teacher so my summers are FREE!!

Planning on making a road trip out of it and driving from south FLA.

Besides, Jorge needs me out front on the swim for drafting purposes...

Last year the pros went off at 0600. I think transition closed at 0530.

I think Kristin is right... cause there was a 3:30 and 4:30 bus ...and the trip down was 45 minutes.  So I'm going to say the pro's went off at 7AM.

I'll never forget too, our bus broke down!  The driver had to get out and check out the engine.

And how weird is it to have different T1 and T2 areas??

Trishie - It wasn't that bad. It helps if you know Rhode Island. It seemed like the folks that took the most obvious route to set up T1 on the day before the race ran into beach traffic. There are a couple of different ways to get from Providence to Narragansett without sitting in traffic. More on that come late june... If you can hack it, get to the registration on Friday. Lot less human traffic then. I literally had no wait at all on Friday afternoon.

Most folks from out of state that I talked too stayed at the Westin in providence. It is literally right next to the finish and within walking distance to everywhere.

I have a camper and will be staying in that behind where I work (only 2 Miles from the start). I recommend staying down in the Wakefield/Narragansett Area. You do not have to get up at an ungodly hour to catch a bus and It makes the transition placements a little easier the day before.  There are only a couple of hotels in the area, a few campgrounds, and quite a few bed and breakfasts. You just have to book now before the summer season fills up.

The worst part of it will be after the race you have to ride back to the hotel but it will be against beach traffic and should be a much faster trip.

Other option if you have a better half driving you around is to book the Sat Night in Narragansett/Wakefield area and a Sunday night in Downtown Providence. That way all your stuff could be at the finish line.

Any questions on places to stay you could contact the South Kingstown Chamber of commerce, or the Narragansett chamber of commerce.

Not that I will be competing for any of them....but....they added this race as a Kona qualifier.

The different T1 and T2 transition areas, for me, was no problem.  As mentioned, if you can, get to the Convention Center on Friday.  They hand out passes which indicate what time you are to be in the transition area on Saturday to set up your bike.  I plan on grabbing an early time, setting up everything, and then hanging out with the wife and kiddies at the beach right there.  The beach is georgeous!  Nice fine sand. 

And if you forget anything when setting up T2 on Saturday, you can just simply bring it with you Sunday morning.  No biggie. 

I stayed at the Renaissance and it was awesome.  But this time around I really want to try and find a Hotel with a pool.  Does anyone know of a Hotel in Providence with a Pool?
