1988 VW Vanagon Westfalia (husband's current car. We bought it in 2007 and had it fully restored. It's his commuting car and our camping vehicle. Love that car, too!)

We had an '87 Westie (it was my husband's that he bought before he knew me, so I can't claim it) that we sold to buy the truck. We needed the truck for hunting and hauling a trailer, but man, I miss the Vanagon! We had so many great trips in that van! Whenever we strike it rich, that will be be our first purchase!

eberulf - 2009-01-22 12:30 PM '90 Mazda 323 (Bought new, nice little car, but should have got the little Acura for a few $ more)

DUDE! You had the little egg too??? HILARIOUS! I started driving in 1990..

Yep, it looked like a little egg. Very good gas mileage, but not as good as I expected, lousy acceleration, good reliability. My brothers were saying that a friend owned one and it was a rusted out piece of 10 year old garbage. I replied that it made it 10 years, and that was pretty good to me. It was between the Mazda and the small Acura, and I decided to save $2,000. Unfortunately, I decided I wanted a better car after four years, and I realized I could have driven the small Acura a lot longer. I bought the Camaro, and it was the only time I made a decision on a car based on what I could afford, instead of what I needed.

A whole bunch, but only one that ever truly COUNTED.  Wink

In fact it was a GIFT!  (You'll have to guess from whom and why!  Wink

And yes...  Da dun da dun (theme to Magnum PI running in your head) - same kind of car.

I knew there was a reason not to like you! I have always wanted a Ferrari...although my color of choice would yellow.  I'd don't know why anyone would give away a Ferrari!

My parents' cars that I learned to drive in...

'64 Buick LeSabre -- had the entire cross country team in that car one time, and drove it around the school parkin glot.

'76 Datsun pick-up. 4-speed...

'72 Fiat 124. Also a 4-speed.

'70 Oldsmobile Delta 88. Even more of a boat than the LeSabre.

'77 Honda Civic. The first car that became mine.

Then the ones I've owned:

'88 Subaru hatchback. Loved this one. 5-speed, shift-on-the-fly 4-wheel-drive.

'90 Plymouth Voyager. Became the bike team bus. 4-cyl 5-speed.

'93 Isuzu Rodeo. Nice car. I kind of wish I still had that one.

'01 Ford Escape. The one I have now. also a 4-cyl 5-speed.

One might think I'm due for a new car...

For me nothing exciting owned

92' camry
99' saturn

However driven... Oh yeah!!! *the song in Ferris Buler starts playing in my head*

I used to valet park cars in a country club and at private parties. nice thing is that the parking lot was really small and narrow (not able to double park cars.) and every so often it would take me 15 minutes or so to "find" a parking spot around the corner. that being said some of my favorites are
(age is an approxamation)

'04 Porch Carrara
2 06 Mazarattis
a Farrari F430 Spyder
an H1 (like the Govanator)
A new and a vintage Roles Royce Phantom
A newer Bentley
And my favorite an aston Martin Vantage
A ton of "pimped out" Land Rovers and Escalades.
and all the Lexus/Mercedes/BMW's and normal Porches you could ever want
It was a fun Job

I had a '72 VW camper for a very fun year -- lots of camping and road trips with my kids -- but then I blew up the engine.  Just as well, cops were always pulling me over for something; even got flagged down outside a Phish concert by a hippie that was low on pot.  Quite the conversation starter with older folks who drove them 25 years earlier.

Feel like I'm missing something, but I don't think I am.  Started driving in 1998.  Worked as a salesman at a Chevy dealer for 2 years which explains the Monte & Silverado (which I couldn't afford after I changed jobs)

For my current job I've had an

'04 Impala which I put 75k miles on in 20 months

'07 Impala which I've put 22k miles on since July

At Ride & drives when I was a salesman I got to spend time on the track in

'05 Corvette (whenever it was they changed the body style)

'05 Porsche 911 & Boxter

BMW Z4

Now I am attempting to be car free, except for the company Impala, of course.

I've had a lot of cars, but by far the most interesting one, was the one my parents bought for me from Southwestern Bell when I was sixteen. It was an early 80's model Ford Escort. It was white, and the blue and yellow stripe down the middle of the car had been painted over with white paint, but it still showed through. Oh, and it beeped really loudly when you put it in reverse. I would get up very early for school so that I could be assured of a parking place at school where I wouldn't need to use reverse.....lol. I really don't miss that car.

  • 2004 Acura TL - still going strong and looks great.  I can get another 4-6 years out of it if I want.

Well, in my case, it's combined cars.

I've only actually owned 5 cars, in the same time frame.  One I passed on to my sister, one I "passed" on to my ex, the others I've driven to the end.

I knew Eric was a keeper when he showed up with a 15 year old car.    When he bought the Rav, he was clear with the dealer that he expected to drive this car for at least 20 years.
