I would like to say 100% IN, but that all depends on the above. It is nice to have an IM in my backyard, the savings cost on travel will most likely make this worthwhile. FWIW, the Hudson is the cleanest it's been in over 100 years! I wonder what effect this will have on IMLP?
I heard its the most expensive yet... $1000 |

I heard its the most expensive yet... $1000 Ugh if it's $1,000 or more I won't do it. The cost of flying to NYC from London, with my bike, plus the cost of the event and all the junk I'd buy would just add up too quickly. Though I have tons of friends in NYC and our home office is there, so I could technically work from there for a few days to reduce any jet lag, if there were any, and get settled ahead of the event. Hmmm ... |

"$750 is certainly a given,” Meckfessel said. “Most of our prices worldwide are about $600. Lots of comments/complaints about potential logistical issues. I see reference in the ST thread to things like ferry shuttles, no access to transition before the race start, etc., etc... Does anyone know where that kind of information is coming from? I didn't see anything like that posted on the event web-site.... I'm pretty seriously considering this event for 2012, but would like to know what I'm getting myself into before I commit!! |

I asked my colleagues at Bloomberg these questions and they've heard nothing of the sort from the organizers. Doesn't mean it's not true. Personally I don't like to do inaugural races anyway -- it's like being the guinea pig, and for somethign this big, nobody wants to be a guinea pig. And it's probably going to be out fo my price range. I agree -- I want all the deets before I sign up (in less than a week now) for a race that's 13 months away and has never been run. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: IronManhattan ... it's official!!! So am I the only one who wishes they could see what is going on behind the curtain? Less than a week registration goes on for this and they are "still working on a price"? Makes me wonder how many other things are in limbo and if they just wanted to get this one out there and open registration. Really want to know how family and spectator friendly this will be before pulling the trigger. Half of me really wants to do the first year of this and then like others the other 50% of me worries about the guinea pig aspect. Edited by Shermbelle 2011-06-09 11:45 PM |

Half of me really wants to do the first year of this and then like others the other 50% of me worries about the guinea pig aspect. Yeah, that's kinda where I am too.... I'm thinking spectator access to the bike will be pretty limited, there are certainly some access points to the Palisades Parkway along the bike course, and perhaps spectators could get to the bike course at some of those points, but for spectators to try and travel into and out of the city to access different parts of the race might be a PITA for them, I imagine... |

Newbie here, I was hoping to do IM LP next year then upon further investigation appeared like i will have to be lucky to get a slot online, then IM NYC appears and i was super stoked for it, then read various forums and not a lot of love for it... being such a newbie ( never done a tri, doing HIM in October) i take advice and comments as the best measure of things, you folks who have the experience on the ground and know what you are talking about.. Im now going along the lines of thought where i should maybe skip IM NYC as a first IM and try to go for LP... any advice for a total newbie but very keen and excited newbie?? |

Im doing a sprint next month, White Lake International in early september then the Half... figured take November off for recovery , gently back into it december, then start 2012 for the Full... i realize it not going to be easy, and yea unsure if biting too big a chunk but the challenge is all part of the appeal.. been training pretty regularly this year and confident i will be in shape to do the Half (with the help of BT 1/2 plan).. patience is not one of my virtues but know that is important in these endurance events.. always appreciative of advice and comments |

The answer is, "because you can't shut down 72nd street from the Hudson River to the Park for 17 hours", but I agre with you 100%. It's unfortunate that the finish line of an IM race that ends in NYC, which has so many famous landmarks and locations will end at a nondescript patch of asphalt in the middle of nowhere. |

Veteran 300 | Subject: RE: IronManhattan ... it's official!!! I live in Manhattan and I'm sorry, but this race barely has any NYC in it. The only thing NYC is going to be the outrageous price tag. I wouldn't be surprised to see four figures in the cost. Too bad they didn't do the swim from Governor's Island to the Financial District then bike out into the outer boroughs - out to coney and to Jones beach, then up and around back. From there a run through the Bronx and around Yankee Stadium, through to Riverdale, down the west side Hudson River Park and finishing with a loop in Central Park. Sure, the logistics of this are impractical... so don't close it to traffic. Make it a real NYC experience and have competitors dodging cars and traffic. I can only imagine finishers having to deal w/ the folks in the park at the end of the race. Ironman athletes are too coddled. This will knock them down a few pegs. |

Less than a week registration goes on for this and they are "still working on a price"? I wondered about that too. Registration opens in a few days and they don’t even know what they’re charging yet? My suspicion is that they’re taking the temperature of the triathlon community to get a feel for whether they can charge $1000 without inciting a riot/backlash. I’ve seen quite a number of facebook posts and tweets over the last few days from magazines or other tri-news outlets that are “innocently" asking the question ‘how much would you pay?' Maybe I’m seeing conspiracy where there is none, but I have a feeling that several of these are at the behest of the RD to get people talking so that the RD and the WTA can get a feel for what the sentiment is out there. |
