Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED rrrunner - 2013-01-31 2:16 PM Asalzwed - 2013-01-31 1:08 PM I posted this in the other thread but oh my gosh! I am exhausted (additional information in blog!) Just wrapping up a big running month. I went snowboarding all day yesterday and then went to track practice. Our workout was 5 x 1200 @ 4:48 (that's 6:26 per mile pace.) Our splits were: 4:47 We sped up and dropped 8 seconds off of that last rep. I was thinking that I was only going to do 3 or 4 reps since I was so tired from snowboarding but then they asked me to lead the 4th rep and by the time I finished that I figured I may as well finish out the workout. Little did I know they were going plaid on that last rep. Wow, that's incredible, especially considering the fact that you'd been boarding all day! I take it you had all the correct gear this week? Haha, yes I did. Except I was wearing snowboarding socks but that was a blessing as it was cold and rainy out. |

February is gonna be huge. Run - 8hours - 70km Swim - 7 hours - 25km Bike - 4 hours - who cares how far?!!! So clearly it's the bike that I don't love! hehe! My aim for Feb - Bike to be bigger than swim and run. Consistency is key. Tonight it's long run 2 and a half hours. Saturday 3 hours on the trainer let's download me some Kona to watch. Also OWS about 2.5km Sunday - 1 hour trainer and 10km off the bike. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED Hi manatees! Time to chime in for the new thread. Jen - aw, so close to making your running goal in Jan.! If not for your toe injury and being sick you would've blown that away! Salty - dang, girl, you continue to awe and amaze with your running times. Love how you did your workout in snowboard socks! Jo - here's to a great month of training in Feb! (toasting you with water!) Speaking of toasting, what is the typical Australian saying or word when toasting? A friend of mine loves to 'collect' such words/phrases, and I'm always looking to help add on! TJ - that is so cool that your son is taking to the workouts so easily. No doubt you will get him drawn into tri madness! My Feb. goals are to start my half marathon training, which will include teaching my brain that I can and will indeed do this. 13, ok, 13.1 miles seems so daunting. Next goal is to get on my bike more, I've sadly been neglecting that discipline. Speaking of neglecting disciplines, I need to get my pool membership renewed to make sure I didn't forget how to swim, so perhaps that will be a goal as well for this month. And of course my ongoing goal of getting out in my kayak at least once a month. |

And I got to see it live and in person. My mom volunteers for the 50/50 groups and gets free tickets now and again. She couldn't go last night, so SO and I got to . Awesome! Full disclosure, I used to be an Avs fan. Had a Patrick Roy poster and everything. Both of these things make me sad. |

Master 1890 Gig Harbor | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED rrrunner - 2013-01-31 12:13 PM Oh, wanted to share some DS1 news with all y'all. So since we joined the gym DS1 has been going most every evening. Sometimes he hits the dreadmill, sometimes strength training and sometimes he swims. So the other night I casually gave him some basic information about swimming downhill, looking down, high elbows small kick etc. So this morning he told me he'd used my suggestions during his swim last night and he was amazed at the improvement in the effectiveness of his swim. He even said that the girl who is ALWAYS in the hot tub while he swims commented on his improved abilities. I'll turn that kid into a triathlete yet... This almost brings a tear to my eye.... Why do you guys keep trying to make me cry? |

And I got to see it live and in person. My mom volunteers for the 50/50 groups and gets free tickets now and again. She couldn't go last night, so SO and I got to . Hey hey now... easy on my Avs... Well I did about an hour twenty on the drainer this morning to get my bike time to at least where it was for December (missed it by like 20 seconds ). The cool part, though, is that my time is about the same but my miles are higher! Yea! I am definitely feeling yesterday's swim. Interestingly my right bicep is sore, my left bicep is slightly less sore but my left lat is sore I'm about 3 months in to HIM training, with 8 weeks to go. I am noticing some muscle definition that I've not had before. Also all my clothes, even my skinny clothes, are loose. I hope my suits fit me for trial in a couple weeks Someone, I think ChrisM, posted the following elevation graph of the Oceanside bike course and I'm including my elevation graph, again, from my ride a couple weeks ago. I'm a bit nervous about the Oceanside hills but know that being at sea level will work in my favor (that's favour for those of you across the pond) too to some extent as well. Thoughts? Could just be that one arm is stronger than the other....you could be pulling harder with one arm. Also, do you favor one side while breathing? I'm a left side breather almost exclusively...I notice when breathing the stroke changes a bit, which causes me to use different muscles.. Just some ideas. After you have worked on this for a couple weeks - will you get us some more videos...would love to see them. |

Veteran 1100 Dayton | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED Swimming with swimmers is an interesting experience. Even though I'm one of the slow ones in this group, I know the small sprint I did last year, not many people swam the 400y faster than 6:00, and I should be able to do that easily by summer. Hopefully after a few more months I'll be able to identify with the tag of "swimmer." I did an easy 2700y tonight, and it makes me think that not too long ago saying that wouldn't have been possible. |

I have been doing all my workouts like a good Kate, started my LAST semester of college, and dealing with accreditation prep work like a madwoman at the zoo...so I have been just looking and not posting on the computer. Accreditation inspection is over as of tomorrow, school is going to be busy, but not crazy, and my working out will be...well...it isn't going to get any less so, but I plan on staying on track...So off I go to update my training log for the rest of January. I'll also try to keep up with the thread better..as for February, on the 16th I have my longest strictly running race ever--the Escape From Folsom 10 Miler..I just got a new pair of trail running shoes (Innov8 X-Talons), they are on the slightly minimal side (not completely), and I think that it is the way to go for my running, cause if I run in that type of shoes, there is no hip pain any more! AWESOME! No stoppin' me now! |

I got in the longest swim of my life last night (really 1850 is the longest straight swim ever) and put in an hour on the stationary bike tonight. It's a bare bones kinda week. Fingers crossed for some improvement going into the weekend. |

It might be good to tell them you want to add bars and see what they suggest. They might be able to help find the best ones for you and your bike. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED So, I bite the bullet and registered to start my Masters Degree. Right now it will be a Masters in Management and Leadership, it should take me about 5 semesters to finish taking 2 classes per semesters. I will start my first class on Feb 11, and second class March 18. They will both be done before I leave Alaska, so no homework on the drive. I am still kicking in the Tour of Sufferlandria, thus January is a high bike month so far. I am finding with this much riding that some of my weaker muscles are showing and getting a workout. My legs are screaming most days when I wake up. I am still getting at least 2 workouts in a day. For February I am looking at a run focus month. I am going to start a 30 runs in 30 days on February 4. Who else is streaking?? My goal is no less than 2 miles or 20 minutes a day. most will still be on the treadmill as I will have to do more runs in the morning to fit everything in the day. My January Totals: Bike - 15h 49m 33s all trainer time, Run - 6h 57m 35s - 36.81 miles, Strength 3h. Snowshoeing - 55m. I was not able to get any swim in due to either work or the pool being closed. I will be able to get back to my Masters Swim on Saturday. Edited by jbwills 2013-02-01 12:19 AM |

I have one unit and a project left to complete, should be finished by the end of the year. I am also streaking, if stringing together days of missing training because of work counts as a streak my January totals sucked a bit (I basically missed the whole last week of the month) swim - 1:30hours 3700m bike - 5:45hours 120km<\p> run - 2:35hours 17.5km 10 weeks until my OD so really need to step it up this month. |

The run is not where I was hoping it would be (I was at 50+ miles on the 15th of January), because of this stupid cough I still have. But I feel good about the overall training volume. If my cough were gone, I would join you in streaking this month, but I think I still need to play the run a little conservatively. |
