I did a lot of sport as a kid, the rule in our house was that we had to play at least one each season. Also swam a lot, not well but did around 3k each day. All that kind of slowed down when I left school and stopped all together when I started my current job 10 years ago. About 2 years ago I was sick of my ar$e spreading while I was sitting on it and really wanted to get back into competitive sport but couldn't commit to a team due to work, my brother who has done a couple of HIMs suggested tris. Since then I have done a few sprints and the swim leg of a HIM. FAMILY: I am married to Phil and we currently have 6 Mastiffs that share our life and house CURRENT TRAINING: spasmodic, this is my biggest problem and someone thing that I am determined to work on improving this year, I am not doing well at the moment as I have done any training yet this year. THIS YEARS RACES: the only one on the calendar at present is an Oly on 02/02/2014. I will do more after this depending on whether we end up with puppies at the beginning of March. BODY COMP: I am 5'6" (I think) and currently weigh the heaviest that I ever have, I need to lose about 10kg (20lb) to be at a good weight. |

Started looking around for a long term goal/challenge that would keep me on the straight and narrow. Spotted something online called The Brutal (basically a double IM distance race in Wales). Decided that was as good a goal as any. Looked into it and realised there was a fair bit of swimming and cycling involved, so, I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to swim and get a bike. Roll on to May 13 and I complete my 1st sprint distance tri. Done a fair few other events since then and am building up to HIM this summer. My biggest downfall - failing to actually train for races. I'm good at entering em, but lack consistency in training. I need to sort this out. FAMILY STATUS: Married 6 and a half years to Hannah, with a daughter, Emmylou, a son, Finley, and a St Bernard, Lucy. CURRENT TRAINING: Have been off training completely for the past month and a half due to tendonitis. Will be starting training on Monday the 6th of January. I will be competing in Jantastic for the next 12 Weeks in order to keep me consistent with my running. There is a Manatee team set up in Jantastic if you care to join me, and some of the other Manatees. I will post shortly what Jantastic is and how you join up. THIS YEAR'S RACES/EVENTS: Feb. 10km run, April. Century Ride. May. Edingburgh Marathon. June. 100 km ultra run. July. Long Weekend (Iron Distance over 3 days) Aug. HIM distance. Sept. 24 hour run. Oct. Mountain marathon. Nov. 46 mile Ultra run. 2013 RACES/EVENTS: 2 sprints, 2 aquathlons, 1 x 10 km run, 2 x Marathons, 1 x 24hour run (10 hrs and change for me), 1 ultra. BODY COMPOSITION: Become mahooooooooosive, need to lose loads, or buy a different wet suit. Given up refined sugar, soft drinks and chocolate. God help me Havent given up beer though |

I had big plans of all the things that I was gonna do around the house and garden and that I was gonna train every day. I have managed ok up until New Year with the training but since then the wheels have fallen off and I haven't done a single SBR session yet in 2014 and I have done very little around the house. The worst part is I go back to work tomorrow. I have plenty of reasons why this is the case including, randy dogs that I spend half the day going back and forward to the vets with. A grumpy husband who has had an ACL reconstruction and has hurt the hamstring that they used to do the reconstruction with and now a dog with a partial CCL tear (think ACL in a human) that requires 8 weeks of restricted activity. But really the root cause is that I am LAZY! I have 4 weeks until the Oly that I really want to do so I need to pull my finger out and get on with it. In order to have some accountability is it ok if I just do a quick post here each day to say that I have done my session, I won't put details just that it is done. |

After nearly 2 months of no fitness I'm climbing the walls. I thought I'd give a recap on what Jantastic is and what is required for current Manatees and any new members. Jantastic is a motivational tool aimed at giving you consistency in you running. It aids you by giving you an incentive to get out the door and do those runs when the weather is crappy, or you've had a tough day at work, or you're just feeling lethargic. It runs in 3 four week cycles. 1. In the first cycle you must predict, and commit to complete a number of runs per week. This must be a minimum of 3 runs and must be a minimum of 1 mile in distance. Don't over do your self in this first cycle, you're in it for the long run 2. Same as cycle 1, but now you must also predict what the longest distance you will run on your long run will be each week. 3. As well as cycles 1 and 2, now you must predict your race time over a given distance. This is for you to decide. It doesn't have to be a race, it can be a training run, whatever... This is for you to try to tune into, and understand your own fitness level. You will be penalised for how much you are out of your estimation. Now, you could sand bag this, wear a garmin and come in bang on time and get full points, or you could zip up the man suit, set a challenging time and gun it. If you don't get it, phhhhhh, so what, you've given it your all and who knows, you might smash it out the ball park and PB it. I'd much rather do that and take the points loss. Your call. One more BIG POINT. Remember to log your runs by the Tuesday morning each week(can't remember exact time and can't check at mo cos I'm on iPad and if I go off the page I lose all this ^^^^), or they don't count (plus remember, it's British times so go by GMT) Here's the link. http://www.jantastic.me/ Go there, sign up and when it comes to team selection, do a search for "mad manatees". I'm still busy fixing up my new tri bike. You know, fitting a soft close seat to it, tiling and grouting it, painting the window frames on it should be finished in about 9 months. Well Santa didn't bring me what I asked for until today. I asked for an extra 6 hours in a day to get stuff done. My wish came true today. The company I subcontract to have dropped all the hours of out side workers. I now have to see how that's gonna pan out. On the plus side, my races are all paid up and I'll have time to train. Minus side, budget will be tight for the next few months, meh. I tell you who did pop to town Christmas morn', the circus. Well, they must've, or how else would a new pair of Hoka Mafate's be left for my use |

Soccer and basketball were most consistent among those. Had been riding a bunch, running some, and a few other activities for a few years after college until a friend of similar ability gave tri a shot. So I did too and was hooked. Family Status: 34, single Current Training: I train quite a bit and fairly consistently year round, regularly touching various aspects of fitness. Could drop into a sprint to HIM and do well on short notice. 2013 Races: Variety of distances & combinations, including single sport events. All in the race log. 2014 Races: Will be putting the emphasis on the "multi" part again. It's not just triathlon. Body Composition: Would like a little tweaking, but nothing to really complain about here. |

Kingsley and I are going to the Australian Swimming Awards black tie gala the night before (I feel so SPESHUL!), but I'm considering doing this race with you (NOT butterfly ... but with a mountain bike!). |

Trying to dump the 5.5kg I gained after IM Japan attempt. Whole foods vegan both for health and weight reduction worked really well for me during IMJ training so I'm back on the veggie wagon. 2) Swim. I'm repeating Sheila T's Swim Speed Workouts progression, this time REALLY paying attention to the personal directions she sends (yeah ... she probably does that for a REASON, duh) and executing all of the above more closely and consistently. I'll also be going to 2-3 coached squad workouts per week, both of them headed up by Olympians (good ones) and Olympics coaches. I am absolutely the slowest person in the slowest lane at both the Bali one and the Perth one. It's fantastic motivation. 3) Bike. Starting general (base) training back up with Jorge's cycling program. I'll also be doing some mountain biking with partners/groups in Indonesia and Perth. 4) Run. Starting BarryP 3-2-1 VERY low, as in 10min/20min/30min! However, I do want to get into RUNNING ... because of continuous major interruptions to training, I've always patchworked with aquajogging, powerwalking, run:walk. 5) Strength. I have arthritis (from one of the tropical illnesses) in a number of major joints so I'll continue being consistent and diligent about this. I do a custom yoga routine. |
