MPG of your primary vehicle (Page 2)

With some of the cash I'm saving on gas I bought a Yakima roof rack.

On a typical fill-up (which is about 40% highway driving), I am at 31 mpg....yes, I am a dork who resets the trip meter at each fill up and does the math to figure it out .

Do you use a calculator, or work it out mentally?  (Raises hand for mentally...)

Main car is a 2000 Taurus Wagon and we  average 20-22 around town, 25 on the highway. 

I drive a 2003 VW Golf TDI.  I'm getting about 42 mpg right now and buy biodiesel whenever I can. 

For anyone looking to buy biodiesel, you can find gas stations that sell it on www.biodiesel.org . 

Not at all.  But I might look for an SUV with better gas milage than I'm getting. I.E. the Highlander Highbrid.

This last Dec. My wife and I were in her Toyota Land Cruiser with our 5 month old daughter.  We were on the highway when traffic stopped.  The guy behind us never slowed down 45-50 MPH with the road conditions.  Destroyed his van and we were able to drive away with a dented bumper and a broken tail light.  With my daughter in the car, I will never put a price on that.

I love that car, although I don't have the "S".  Can't compaint about a car with good handling/speed AND good gas mileage.  Although it's not very bike-friendly. 

How does a 6-speed feel?

1997 Acura 2.2CL - 28 mpg. I drive 73 miles each way to work, the car has 170K miles on it and I love it.

I do the commute by bike whenever I can and even with the gas prices over $3/gal, it's cheaper for me to drive than to ride my bike!! Between gels, salt tabs, energy bars and gatorade it cost me almost $10 to commute by bike! All things considered, gas is still pretty cheap!

Main vehicle: 2004 F150 2WD 5.4L V8  15-17 mpg (9-11mpg pulling my trailer)
Wife's car: 2000 Focus wagon 28-30 mpg
Summer Toy: 1940 Ford pickup Flathead V8  15 mpg

Does anyone else find it funny that my 67 year old truck and my new truck get about the same mileage?

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.  I'm afraid to calculate it because I drive 80 miles round trip to work everyday.  That's why I've been starting threads about high MPG vehicles.  I'm researching my next vehicle.  This one was bought  partially for fun and partially to tow the ski boat I no longer own.  Next car will be minimum 30 mpg no matter what.

Wife is due for a new minivan and we are hoping Toyota comes out with a Sienna Hybrid in 08 as has been rumored.

Mini Cooper-S.  Decent highway mileage, 33-35 mpg.  Really drops off in town.  Cold weather and in town can be down in the 21-22 mpg.  Fun factor never seem to drop though.

My mileage is pretty hard to calculate as my primary vehicle is my road bike.  My wife needs the car for her work so I only use it a bit on weekends.  Even so, I do less mileage on the car than I do on my road bike or my tri bike.

Safer for you, maybe.... but not safer for anyone that you hit.
