I'm using a sleeveless wetsuit and warmed up after swimming about 5 minutes or so. Cold when getting out of the water. Feet were numb walking to the car. I will take time to do a full clothing change (including blow drying hair) and start the bike as dry as possible. There fixed that for ya!! It was good to meet everyone this morning---always nice to be able to talk and just float along faster then we'd normally be swimming!! |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Swim was great! Water was cool, but far from frigid. I wore a sleeveless and thought it was perfect. We passed a boat heading out for some fishing andthey said the water was 65 degrees. The tidal current is strong. I didn't want to swim too much the day before and was only planning to swim out 250 yards and then turn around. When I tried to turn around I realized the current was fast and there was no way I was turning around. It should be a very nice swim. I wore some swim socks and my feet were toasty forthe long walk to T1, but the folks who were barefoot began to get numb toes. It was about 42 this morning and will be colder tomorrow. Good Luck to everyone! Edited by brown_dog_us 2009-11-06 10:13 AM |

Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Well that was fun. Yeah it was cold until I started swimming but then it was just about perfect. Rode about 20 min and I'm thinking I'm not even going to use the long sleeved jersey tomorrow but I'll pack it just in case. 'Twere a pleasure meeting all y'all. |

Carol was good enough to be organizing the dinner and I believe we should be set for Fat Tony's (downtown location) at 5pm----she said she'd be wearing her bright green Trakkers shirt (if I remember reading that somewhere since I don't feel like looking back through) |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread So sorry I missed the dinner. I didn't realize it was a 20 min drive out to T1 and then equipment check in took forever organizing all my crap! I didn't get back to the hotel till 6pm! Hope everyone had a great day. It was painful!!! Still, I had a great race, and HTFU'd thru a bone bruise on my left foot from mile 7 onward. My finish time was about 12:03. I forget who passed me close to the end - did you make the 12 hour mark? I am dying to see the results. I think I got a drafting penalty. A guy passed me then slowed down (that always happens to me) and I wasn't paying attention to dropping back and then a motorcycle went by with the guy writing on a clipboard. Great to meet everyone! |

253 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread We had the incoming tides helping us along. That being said, I can usually knock out 4000 meters in around 1:01:00 or so in training and my time for the 2.4 miles was 49:XX. So, I could guess that the tides accounted for about 10 or so minutes for me. ben |

Extreme Veteran 326 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Guys and Gals, I had THE BEST TIME hanging out with all of you this weekend. What a great group of individuals. I am soooo proud of everyones effort and performance out there. The wind on Hwy 421 was a bummer....and blowing out my front tire (not tube) and eating pavement was no fun at all. I can't wait to prepare my race report and will share pics soon. Also, to everyone that saw my bare naked right buttock the entire bike ride: YOUR WELCOME! |

Member 41 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Just wanted to congratulate everyone on a great weekend. I was late to this thread, but I am so happy to have stumbled across it. It was really good seeing some familiar faces (dave flying by) and ben on the bike and seeing Amy and Ben on the run. Marathons are no fun! Congrats to everyone, and hope to see you guys at other races in the future! Enjoy a lil down time!! Anyone from this thread doing IMLP or IMKY next year? |

Master 2021 Alpharetta, GA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Skippy74 - 2009-11-08 9:53 PM I think we need to post some of the funnier signs that people had up on the course---I got a pretty good chuckle out of the "Smile if you peed on your bike" sign along 421 around mile 80 or 90 or something like that... No, the best one was the sign that said "Sore taint?" around mile marker 90. I pointed and laughed my azz off! That head wind sucked BIG TIME! Congrats to Amy & Carol! You guys (ladies) looked strong out there, and rocked it! Great job to everyone! Doug, thanks for the high fives! James, nice butt!!! |

I would be real interested in your feedback about the 2009 B2B. Did everyone like the event? Would this be a good race for a first Iron ? Thanks! Edited by trizoo 2009-11-09 9:25 AM |

It was my first IM, and it could not have been any better. We did have a nasty headwind on the final 40 miles, but you would face that in FL as well. The temp was perfect throughout the day. Go for it!!! |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread While I had a fantastic result, I will not do this race again. The run course was NOT lit up well enough. Trying to run in the dark slowed me down in the last lap. And... I tripped at mile 17 and banged up my knee and hands. Great big goose egg bump on my knee now. Haha, I was actually glad for this new pain, because it momentarily distracted me from the excruciating pain in the ball of my left foot. Still... I would have enjoyed that run much better had it not been for any of that pain. PS, regarding the headwind on 421. The day I did the training ride, the wind was in reverse. We just got unlucky! My bike computer said 19.5 avg mph until I hit 421. At the end, it was more like 18.4 mph. If the wind had been in reverse, I think the end result would have been the same, only I would have gained speed on the last leg, rather than losing it. Just would have felt easier! Oh, and my Garmin shows 26.59 miles for the run??? |

All of the mile markers were off on my computer by .24-.50. |

I would be real interested in your feedback about the 2009 B2B. Did everyone like the event? Would this be a good race for a first Iron ? Thanks! I loved this race! It was my first Iron and would say it's a very good first---at least for me it was "big" enough that I could always see someone but not crowded like you hear about many of the IM races. The course is good---fast swim, pretty flat bike (wind is the wildcard but in the two years they've held this race now it hasn't been a deal breaker---yeah I felt it as soon as I turned back onto 421 and it lowered my ave mph but it could've been MUCH worse!) and a good run course---couple bridges but the downtown area is good for support (I wasn't out at the park in the dark but understand what Carol is talking about...). Carol---yup just looked at the data from my Garmin and it says 26.59 also (hadn't paid attention to that before...). |
