As I am listening to the wind howling outside I am thinking "off day".  lol  Or maybe I will head to the pool for a little OWS practice.  I hear that my to do list is quite long today so I am going to play it by ear.  Bike tomorrow though.  First I'll get my ride in and then get Tina and do one with her.

Fred D - 2012-04-13 2:26 PMOops, sorry agree Bryan. I meant Olympic.I think if I were 30 I could do. HIM 2 weeks before, but an Olympic 2 weeks out is what I meant. At my age recovery is too long for the half that close.

Just wondering what the real benefit is to doing the Olympic before the IM?

Fred D - 2012-04-14 6:56 AM Morning everyone I will be swimming later, and long ride tomorrow. What is on tap for today?

Took the back roads over to the Park where the Musselman is held, about 43 miles round trip the way we went. A little cool but other wise a nice morning for a ride.

Biggest volume week for me in a while, amazing what a full week at home will do for my training!

Nice riding, Ken & Rudy!

Kim...sounds like we are having the same wind...too brutal to get out on the bike.

However I did have an amazing warm and windy 7-miler this morning. Legs felt great...threw in a little tempo work and a hard 800 to finish.

Another wind casualty. Absolutely howling and would have been miserable, in addition to dangerous since we were planning some canyons. So swapped tomorrows run for today, got a fantastic 8 miler on the hilly trails. First long run since Oceanside. Now relaxing on the couch catching up on some reading before we head out to see Waiting for Godot tonight in downtown LA.

Question for the group on weight training. No, not should I or shouldn't I, but solely from vanity. . Now that I've lost some weight I am starting to see a little definition in my arms and chest ( a little, but hey). I'd like to just get some more defined muscles, so I look good in those aero shots on the bike. I am not interested in leg work, I get plenty of that. And only have the patience for about 20 minutes, maybe twice a week. I know there's a lifting forum and I can ask there, but can someone here recommend a quick circuit that just works arms, chest and abs? I always walk around the weight room and feel like I have no clue...... Again, I know it won't do much for S/B/R.

I have a favorite 20-minute strength/core program I like to use...
I superset db overhead press/bb upright rows...3 sets of 8-10 reps, but every 4th week go heavy with 6 reps. Then I do biceps curls and db tri kickbacks same setup. I'll alternate db/bb on the biceps for variety.
Then I do Core 1 or Core 2 which I found here on BT...I'm sure it's still on here somewhere. It includes pushups which will address the chest.
I think I need to get back to doing all this myself...like you, mainly from a vanity standpoint.

Great workouts today everyone - anybody heard from our racers?

101 miles done for me today, Pretty much wide-open-not-sure-if-you-are-going-to-blow-up pace for me. I just missed the fasties roll out, so I wound up either solo or on the front for the entire day. 5200' of climbing, and I just snuck in under 5 hours, so I am pleased with that. TSS of 368, and NP at 85% of FTP. A century this time of year was not really part of my training plan, but my wife wanted to ride one, so of course I jumped at the chance. She went solo on the whole thing on her tri bike and crossed the finish just under 6:15. For her first century in over 12 years, that is pretty darn good.

Headed to meet friends for dinner. I WILL be having a martini.

Had an easy 40ish mile ride today to prepare for my uphill TT tomorrow.

Long story short...as I was getting my road bike ready for the race (switching brake pads for tubulars), I had issues with my front deraileur.  I took it to my shop to have it tuned, and they told me to test ride their Cannondale SuperSix Evo with full SRAM Red for my race.  SWEET.  I put on my race wheels, and the bike tips the scale at just over 13 pounds...over 2 pounds lighter than my CAAD10.

I test rode it down the street, and my God...the thing rides like a true race machine.  Maybe it's just mental...but the responsiveness when you stand up and hammer is unreal.

My friend told me that I just got poorer.  He might be right...LOL.

Another big fan of the TRX Chris.  You could totally get an awesome workout without it but it really is a great way to quickly get a workout in without leaving the house and you get a nice stretch in at the same time.  When not racing I will mix it up with weights as well.

Should be interesting to see if I can actually get Tina on a bike this morning.  Pretty chilly here this morning (I actually turned the heat on again after 90's earlier in the week).  I'll either run or bike, depending on what she decides, but I'll get something in for sure.

I think I found me a 50k race to do in Oct.  They have a whole race series up there (Bryan does them as well I think, just the shorter version), so I have lots to choose from.  Only about an hour south from Payson.  I think I will lead up to a 50 miler next year in Payson, which is suppose to be quite a hard one so lots of running in my future.

Hey guys! Looks like there have been some good workouts this weekend so far. Nice work! Back to the hospital for call shift #2. Got lucky on Fri and did sleep a little bit. We will see what happens tonight. No workout yesterday/this morning, will try tomorrow post call. I know it's not weigh in day, but I've lost 5 lbs since mid March, finally feel like I'm making some progress!

Looks like everyone has had a great weekend in terms of rides, etc.  I'm hopping on a plane in a couple of hours to head home from my parents.  I admittedly love the Okanagan valley where they live, amazing area of the country.

Rusty - 5hrs at 85% seems pretty intense.  I know I couldn't ride that long at that intensity, but being able to handle something like that would be fantastic.  I think I need to push my rides harder than I'm accustmed to doing.

Well I have been completely MIA with work and family prior to leaving.  We are currently down in FL on vacation.  My daughter got the flu before coming down and my wife and I were throwing up all yesterday the day after we arrived...so not the best start.

Picked up the rental bike...nice Trek roadie so hoping for some fun rides down here.  Went on a 9 mile run when we got here and the heat and humidity are going to take some getting used to.

I have about 8 pages of thread to review here .

Afternoon all.... finally got some time to update my logs.  Work has been crazy in both good (several new and interesting cases/client) and bad (office politics) ways.

Got a 2 hour trainer ride in yesterday.  I did a 6x 8/2 at HIM effort and felt pretty good, of course no hills inside, but used a pretty hard gear, followed by an hour slightly easier.  then it was off to 8-year old little league, where in the 3 innings we played we got 3 outs in each inning!  for those of you who have NOT coached little league, this is quite an accomplishment.

Today i went for a 10+ mile run and felt okay.  I am too heavy by a solid 20 pounds, which is not good given i have about 8 weeks to Rev3 Quassy.  I will be spending the afternoon transplanting shrubbery.  Why you ask: wifey said so.

Have a great afternoon all!
