I could make lollygagging a professional sport. Along with "finding anything to do except for what I should be doing"... if only there was someone to pay me to do such things. |

Any other year I would DO EEETTTTT because this race has been on my bucket list forever...... Ocean City Beach Patrol tri is August 4 while I am on vacation. It's a sprint. I have an 11 mile run on the plan the same day....would need to rewrite that weeks plan. Suggestions? Where is your vacation? If you can make it logistically, DOOO EEETTT! I don't think that moving the long run will be a problem in the end. July 25 to August 4. The race is August 3 on the far end of Ocean City. Rain date is August 4 (the day we leave) The link on the OCBP page isn't working so I asked them to email me a link to sign up. Few years ago I did a 1 mile ocean swim race with them and the sign up was very low key day of event for about $20 so I am not anticipating a high cost tri. So you're vacationing in Ocean City? Sweet! Can't get much better logistically! The other races I want to do there are either late June (Assault on Assateague sprint tri right at the campground I stay at when we're there) and the Seagull Century in October which I always wind up signing up for a half marathon in November and can't do..... Oh! I want to do the Seagull Century! I don't think that it works with B2B this year though. Maybe next year. Totally serious here, gang, I think we should get together and do the Seagull Century! I've long had this bookmarked in my mind but didn't do it for one reason or another. Sounds like something we could plan for next year since most folks' races/seasons/vacations are already planned. I'll pencil it in for next year. |

I don't even think I could handle poking myself in the eye every day (putting in contacts) Technically speaking, you don't actually touch your eye, you just kind of float the contact within a hair (or closer) and it gets where it needs to be. I know it looks quite different than that, and my kids can't watch me do it. ETA: Now, taking them out? Yes, I do actually touch my eye, but just the white part, and then you kind of pinch a little . . . are you squirming yet, Salty?? Edited by KansasMom 2013-07-09 3:05 PM |

I'm just back from a lunch time swim at the gym and got to find out that when conditioning your hair, don't accidentally use shaving cream instead - it makes your hair feel weird. D'OH!!! I also swallowed a lot of air while swimming and while in the shower (before the shaving cream incident) went to relieve the gaseous tension in a big way thinking that it would be silent... not so much. |

Master 1890![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gig Harbor | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Hey Manatee's - quick check in and update. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Thanks for all the inspires and to everyone for checking in on me. Makes me feel loved. I had a wicked awesome 4th of July weekend. My mom has a friend that has a HUGE vacation home on Orcas Island in the San Juans (between the US and Canada) and he let her use it for the week. On the 3rd, my son and I headed up and we stayed until Saturday. I went mountain biking and did a great little 4 mile run. Was great just to hang out with family (my sister and her family were also there) and just really enjoyed watching my son have so much fun with his cousins. This week - I realized how much I have allowed stress in my life to keep me from accomplishing my goals this year. I have used the stresses from work as an excuse to eat poorly and be lazy (not train regularly). Upon coming to this realization, I was really pissed at myself. I was going to pull out of the 1/2 I have planned for August 24th, (and I still might), but thanks to a conversation Kick in the AZZ from Jo the stalker, I am going to make a go at the training this last six weeks. I will make my decision in about 2 weeks, but it will be based on whether I think I can safely do the distance the way I want to race it or not. If I feel under trained, and think I will risk injury, I won't race it. I will sub in an Oly or 2 in it's place. I do love that I am in good enough shape to go do an Oly any time I want. This Friday, I'm doing a 1.2 mile swim race. Looking forward to it as it's just a swim, then everyone meets at a local pub after! Hopefully there will be some female racers to talk to! My race report is finally complete. I posted on my blog instead of here.. hope that's ok. I included a slideshow of pics I took of the long course racers the day before. I also have video of the bike portion, but haven't had a chance to edit it yet. I think that's it - have a great week manatees |

From your race report I absolutely think you can do the HIM if you get in some consistent training, but you have to want to get that training done. If you're happy with doing sprints and Olys (and I'm jealous of your ability to just go out and do an Oly if you feel like it!) then do those - but give the training a whirl. You've got nothing to lose by giving it a go. And what a gorgeous venue for the Oly - you, Kirstin and Salty are really making me miss the west coast! |

I'd probably switch to time/effort based training for now. You are just not going to be able to run as long or as fast as usual. Just keep it consistent. Get out the door as much as you can even if it's just going to be a few miles, or twenty minutes or whatever. Make hydrating your number one daily goal.

Sleep is under-rated during training and very necessary. What time are you going to bed? I have really had to boost my fluid intake and have limited my wine extremely. I am only drinking a small glass of wine on the night before an off day (Monday is off on my plan and Sunday is wine night with my TrishM from BT, so this works perfectly). Make sure you are eating enough and enough of the right foods. What you put in your mouth will show up on your run the next day. You are working hard. Make sure you respect the rest day with rest, at least for now till it adjusts and then you can move in to active recovery. |

Funny thing was, I was planning on calling her today anyway. I did call her last night, and we talked for about an hour. I told her that I was angry, but more than anything, I was hurt that she didn't realize how I would feel, and unfortunately, when I am hurt, I get REALLY angry for a bit. Long story short, we are back to normal...she had some issues with the medications they were giving her, and truth be told, of the legion of doctors treating her, only one said she should have stayed, and that would have been for a day or two at most. I did tell her that had she called me ahead of time and let me know these issues I would have been more receptive to her leaving. Anyway, she is doing well and getting around with a wheelchair and walker. As for me, I have still kept up with challenges/workouts/etc. but have just not been good about logging them. I will try to do that tomorrow. |
