DougRob - 2010-03-21 4:05 PMHey everyone. I am back. As Tracy said, we saw her and her husbamd Doug at the 6 and 9 mile markers. No funny signs though. Frown

I ran with a BT buddy mine, hlilies. We deliberately started slow to fend off late mile bonking. We were indeed having fun as we passed Tracy, but around mile 12 things got harder. That was where we did a our first short walk. The next was at aroung 13 miles. I did a GU eevry 40 minutes, and took Endurolytes, Tylenol, chomps, water and Heed/Gatorade (No GI issues here). Despite the preventive efforts had calf cramps that I fended off as best I could. Then might left quad tightened up. However, we kept going, just slower. We finished in 4:59. (according to our Garmins.) I will ahve to look up the official time. When I have that I will do a full race report.

There was real good beer and so-so pizza at the end. But why did they put the beer as far from the finish line as possible? Also they were no longer giving out free massages by the time we finished. Cry

Overall the one thing I would do to make it better is...lose a lot more weight!

Oh, and Jen from our mentor group finished the 1/2 marathon in something like 1:51! She rocked it! And she and her boyfriend Scottie stayed the 3 hours until we finished, met us at the line and took pictures. How cool was that?!!

Now off to my soreness, oh and Jury duty tomorrow.

Congrats. YOU ROCK

And congrats to Jen as well.

If you think those stairs hurt now, wait until tomorrow and then the DOMS will really set in for the next day.....all a sign of a job well done.  Rest up and then you can start thinking about that first tri!

DougRob - 2010-03-21 4:00 PM Here is my report:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/races-edit.asp?raceid=128025

I have 17 steps in my house, and yeah they hurt. When I was younger I had to go up butt first after 24 hour bicycle marathons. It took 10 minutes to get up 13 steps and then I sat in the bath tub as it was too hard to stand.

Home sweet home.  Where do I start???

Went to VA Bch this weekend to run an 8k with a friend on Saturday and then run another race today.
Running with my friend on Saturday was awesome.  She totally rocked her goal.
Today, was a little harder.  My training wasn't there (I knew this going in) and the rt foot hurt like hell (also knew the foot was an issue) .  So I'm not proud of my race...but it's in the books.  But I did get a good dose of incentive to get out there and train   :
Right after the race I ran to my friends house, showered, and drove the 4.5 hrs home.
Did I mention I went alone...this was the first weekend away from my family EVER!
Boy did I missed them.  Finish line isn't the same with out them  :

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  I'll have to catch up tomorrow when the hubby/kids are at work/school.

Great job, Linda!!!!  And on such limited training with a bad foot.
Like John says, dang, you are going to be dangerous if you ever truly get a chance to train for these events!
Tough to be away from the fam, but I'm sure they showered you with lots of love when you came back with that finisher's medal around your neck!!!
Dang girl, take care of that foot, please.

Wow, Linda! Huge congrats!! I can't believe you can gut out a marathon. That is truly amazing. I hope your foot is OK!!

You sound like me -- about the only time I spend away from my fam is for races. I feel like that's pretty lame, LOL! So sweet that you missed them at the end. Mine don't come to my races anymore. They will be at the IM, though, with bells on, I hope!

Hope your bod survived the drive home. That can really hurt when you get out of the car!!

kkcbelle - 2010-03-21 1:26 PM Home from my run!! I did not do what I was supposed to AT ALL, LOL!! Had a great run with a friend of mine, Heidi. I was a Garmin-Tard and had all sorts of issues with that, but according to Heidi I was about a 1:51:30, and we negative-split the course after going out faster than I was supposed to. Last time I raced the course I was a 2:03, so that's awesome for me, and only about 1:00 off my PR, which is from a much easier course.

All of the fun was really dampened at the end, though, when walking to our shuttle, we saw a guy go down about 20 yards from the finish. Eyes rolled up in his head, foamed at the mouth... a friend with us is an ICU nurse and she hopped the fence to help, but then backed off as more people came around to help. It felt like a LONG time for the medics to get there. "Ken" did not have a pulse, they were doing CPR and had to pull out the de-fib -- it was really freaking me out. We hung around until the ambulance got there, and they had a pulse when we left, but man, it put it all into perspective very quickly. He was young (30's?), not overweight, and so close to the finish. Of course we knew nothing of his overall health (diabetic? heart condition? not enough fluids? too many fluids? who knows...). So sad. It REALLY freaked me out. *sigh* Hug your families, folks.

nice easy half for you Kyla! Warming up for CDA.

Whats up with all the fast girls in this group??? Us guys are going to get a complex.

For those that plan to ship their bikes via airline this season, it might be wise to read this article ahead of time.....as usual, the fine print matters!

Hope our racers are enjoying their victories this morning...when you feel those sore muscles, remind yourself of a job well done!

yeah haven't read many good things about shipping bikes.

Southwest seems to be one of the best, since they just charge you the oversize bag fee of $50.00

Though Suzy, your bike might be so small you could just put it in the overhead... : )

This is why we are driving the 8.5 hours to San Diego instead of flying the 75 minute flight!  I am so paranoid!

Anyone using the Bontrager Aero Race Pack water bottle?

Seems like a better design than the profile.

oh and I put a new chain on Sam's bike last night and cleaned off the cassette, holy cow, I went through 3 rags doing it because it was so nasty.

Wipperman links are a gift from the heavens if you have to put a new chain on.

I need a little MG love this morning.  This was an EXTREMELY hard weekend on me. My youngest went to a slumber party Friday night and they didn't fall asleep until 1am.  Therefore she was a complete wreck the rest of the weekend.  (oh, and she had another B-day party Sunday afternoon - just to add to her exhaustion level).  I was her pressure valve release the entire time.  2 screaming and kicking matches later, being glued to my side, arguing over every little thing possible and of course the in-laws were here as well; all made for a vey high stressed weekend for me.  My Doug had a long brick  and with the in-laws and kids put together I haven't logged a workout since last Tuesday!!!!

I need someone to tell me something I do RIGHT, for all I heard this weekend was things that were wrong with other people and how I was the cause of it.  Cry

And what the Sh*t H*ll happened to my b-ball teams!?!?!?!?!?!

Does it help if i told you my 2 1/2 year was throwing up last night, I'm on my 2nd coffee and its 7:45?
When i try to help her all she ever wants is her MOMMY. Our youngest one woke up at 6am on Saturday, and was a total bear all day. Every time i try to do ANYTHING any where near her she screams and wants nothing to do to me. Michelle tells me not to take it personally but wow its tough. I feel your pain Tracy. No matter what you try to do sometimes, it never going to be the right thing in someones/everyones eyes.

lets not talk b-ball...3 of my 4 final four are out.

Speaking of all this. I ended up buying an Xlab Turbo for behind he seat. Figured it was going to be the best way for me to carry my infinit and water. I do not want to dehydrate down there in that humidity!
