Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:45 and ate french toast I made the day before.Drove to meet Harold near the run.
Event warmup:

Walked with Harold Louisk and two toehr 1.2 miles to the run start. Went to the bathroom and checked my bag
Run
  • 4h 59m 27s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 11m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

The first 11.5-12 were real good. hlilies and I ran I ran together. We deliberately started slow to fend off late mile bonking. Up to this point my HR was between 98-112. At mile 11.5-12 we did a our first short walk. The next was at aroung 13 miles. I did a GU every 40 minutes, and took Endurolytes, Tylenol, chomps, water and Heed/Gatorade (No GI issues here). Despite the preventive efforts I had calf cramps that I fended off as best I could. Then my left quad tightened up. However, we kept going, just slower.
There was real good beer and so-so pizza at the end. But why did they put the beer as far from the finish line as possible? Also they were no longer giving out free massages by the time we finished.

Overall the one thing I would do to make it better is...lose a lot more weight!

What would you do differently?:

Run at a lower weight. Carrying that much extra weight probably cost me at least 40 minutes and probably more.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight

Event comments:

Could have kept some of the things like the free massage open longer for the people that really needed it. ANd the beer was TOO far from the finish line!

The beer was so far away because just in case 26.2 miles wasn't enough of an accomplishment, making it to the beer garden made up for the difference. Great job!!!! Now we can focus on tri training Whooo-hooo

Way to go.  The beer was good at this race.  I didn't even know it existed until I was heading home though. :-)
