Hey everyone, latest bit on the mom front...I had to laugh, as yesterday morning, I received an email from her explaining why she left sooner, how she figured I would be annoyed with her, but that she hoped I wasn't TOO angry with her. Funny thing was, I was planning on calling her today anyway. I did call her last night, and we talked for about an hour. I told her that I was angry, but more than anything,  I was hurt that she didn't realize how I would feel, and unfortunately, when I am hurt, I get REALLY angry for a bit. Long story short, we are back to normal...she had some issues with the medications they were giving her, and truth be told, of the legion of doctors treating her, only one said she should have stayed, and that would have been for a day or two at most. I did tell her that had she called me ahead of time and let me know these issues I would have been more receptive to her leaving. Anyway, she is doing well and getting around with a wheelchair and walker.

As for me, I have still kept up with challenges/workouts/etc. but have just not been good about logging them. I will try to do that tomorrow.

That's good to hear.

Well had one of those days where I was just so tired nothing could happen especially not training.  Even Scooby didn't get walked today.

Work is still busy, slightly better than last week but still a lot on.

So I came home from work and put myself to bed for an hour and a half, just a light sleep but it recharged my batteries.  probably could have jumped on the trainer but decided not to.

Today is now a rest day - supposed to be mondays but took it today instead.

Tomorrow is an early morning trainer ride and then swim squad tomorrow night.

I know i'm tired I've not had dinner nor will I.  In fact it's 9.30pm I may well go back to bed!

Thoughts & suggestions welcome.

ETA....I am repeating weeks 1 and 2 two times so this week is week 2 take 1 of it....it's WAY too early to feel this level of exhaustion if I'm barely at 25 miles/ week.

I have a multi-faceted approach to heat and humidity. First is water, I take water on every run. Every run that is longer then a trip to my mailbox. Sometimes to drink, sometimes to pour on my head and neck. Second is timing, I try to run at 5:30 am, as that is the coolest part of the day. Third is clothing. I run in shorts and a headlight. There are two ladies in my neighborhood that must have seen Salty's avitar, because that is what they wear.  Shorts and a running bra. Before you write off that idea, both of them look comfortable, and that is the part that matters! Number 4 is sleep/rest. I have to get around 7 hours a night.  If not then I know it.  And weekends include a nap. Lastly is the treadmill. When all else fails, go inside and find some comfort.

Oh yeah, another thing is to log the heat and humidity. I have done so for a while and now I know which days I will do well in and which ones are going to be "slogging through the miles" by the numbers that show up in my notes. I am not often surprised by the numbers I see. Also, you are developing a mental toughness by running in the weather that you currently have, so take that as a plus. Great job on forging through the cruddy weather!

I do my runs around the same time, they say that the humidity is actually a bit higher in the morning, but I'll take that small extra humidity over having the sun beat down on me. I am not that water aware when I do my weekday runs as they seldom are more than an hour, but on weekends we stop at water stops that are laid out every 2 miles or so and I take advantage of each one of them; even if its just a sip. As far as logging the heat and humidity, I don't generally do that because -especially in the summer- the heat and humidity seem to just be an ever present constant. There are days where the humidity does seem worse and for those I sometimes log it as a billion percent

oh, I totally agree about the sleep too. Especially the naps. Even as a child I loved my naps

Hi Manatees...  I have a training question!

This weekend I'll be in NY as Tony is doing the NY tri which will mean some sightseeing Saturday, watching the race Sunday, getting together Sunday night, then flying back at stupid o'clock Monday morning to get to work and then doing a fun 5km race with some friends Monday night.

On to the training question... I'm supposed to have a 4hr bike ride Saturday and a 1.5hr run Sunday which isn't going to happen over the weekend.  Should I try to smoosh them in somewhere over the next 3 days?  If so... do I bag the workouts that are already planned during the week, or do I try to find a way to get ALL the workouts done?

What else do you have planned for workouts over the next few days? And would there be other time constraints as 4 hrs is usually a rather big chunk of time for most.

Also, was there anything in particular about these rides besides getting in a bunch of time on the bike? Thinking more pacing or effort related. Biking has more flexibility in how things can be shuffled around, but want to make sure of goals for the workouts before doing so.

Today is a 45min bike/30min run brick

Thursday is a 1hr bike (at 100+rpm) and a 3500m swim workout

Friday is a 1hr run (with strides/Z4 stuff thrown in at some point) and a 3500m swim workout

The 4hr bike (with a 30min run brick afterward) is probably just to make sure that I get the T.I.T.S. leading up to B2B, but I really noticed the lack of long rides for IMAZ last year and would really like to try and hit as many of the workouts as I can.

Whaddya think?

Keep in mind that this advise is probably as good as what you've paid for it, but I think you are probably far enough out from your race that you could miss the long bike and not be negatively impacted.  However, I would probably still try to get it in v doing the other workouts for the week.  I reserve the right to change my answer to whatever Janyne says

ooooooh! Sending this to DH. Have you done it before? I've got races Sept 22 and Oct 20. This might fit well. Laughing

Ha!  That's usually what I do too!

I think I really just don't like the thought of missing ANY workouts (last year was an unmitigated disaster in terms of sticking to a training plan) but I also know that sometimes life just gets in the way and I have to accept it, begrudgingly.

I haven't done this one. The way they set it up is interesting. Each event is seperate, not a true tri. I have a race Sept 14 (mud run) and Oct 20 (HM) as well.

Yip yip yip

Sounds like a good time to do some SBR time trials for baseline to measure later progress and perhaps guide training ...

I know! Feels like forever since my last race, but there's just nada going on around here.

Ahhhhh...baselines. Yes, I should do that now that I have something to shoot for.  Sometimes you make so much sense. Tongue out

Race tonight!Actually 2 races! I am competing in the joggers mile AND the 5000. The joggers mile is where everyone writes down what they think they will run a mile in, they turn off all the clocks (no watches allowed) and whoever gets closest to their guess wins! I'll be doing this as a warm up.

I may get conned into the 4 x 400 too but we'll see.

I am feeling pretty good so if I screw this one up it's 100% my fault. Smile

Ha I know, right? I know I can run a fast warm up 400 in like, 80 so I dunno about an all out. But the 4x4 isn't too much before the 5000 so I'd be more running it as a fast quarter for prep. I want to do well in the 5000 but I'm kinda just playin' around because this shyte is fun!

I may get conned into the 4 x 400 too but we'll see.

I am feeling pretty good so if I screw this one up it's 100% my fault. Smile

The Joggers mile sounds like a lot of fun.

I hope you do the relay -- I always ran faster in relay than in my stand alone races (back in High School). I'm a people pleaser, and I didn't want to let anyone down. :-)

Random things around here:

Yesterday in yoga, after being pulled out to change a dirty diaper BEFORE I'd even sat down, I noticed we had about 12 people (biggest class yet) and one of them was my neighbor across the street. Cool!  Then the instructor was new to me, she usually does Wednesdays, and she had REAL music: Adele, GnR, Pink, etc. Really cool! She gave lots of feedback and made pose corrections, and just generally moved things along quickly as she layered the poses. I'd really like to do her class, but I've been going T/Th and not sure about doing a back to back days. Pod yogi thoughts?

Got sitter again for this weekend. Another long ride to come, and hopefully we'll over and back on the mountain if the weather cooperates.

So I have this bike leg of a HIM in Oct...was thinking of getting a training "schedule" together that is bike intensive. It's 15ish weeks out I think. I looked at the BT 20 wk 1/2 Iron plan and it doesn't seem like much. I'm doing about 5 hours per week now...3 steady, 2 interval. Now we're starting longer weekend rides, so I'll drop one of the weekdays. Should I drop more? Any of you experienced planner types have advice?

IMHO I think Yoga is low impact enough you could do it as many days in a row as you could handle.

Also, biking is pretty low impact as well. Shoot, when I worked at a PT office in college they had peple on the bike the day of a full knee replacement.  You can do a lot of biking, hard biking even and, unlike running, not be at risk for injury. I think it's all going to depends on what your schedule can handle. The bigger the T.I.T.S. the better. Again IMHO

Ha!  That's usually what I do too!

I think I really just don't like the thought of missing ANY workouts (last year was an unmitigated disaster in terms of sticking to a training plan) but I also know that sometimes life just gets in the way and I have to accept it, begrudgingly.

Ah poo.  I was going to just go with what the Pod said because I'm late to the party.  (darn that work getting in the way of BT!)

I don't think that adding time to your already schedule bike rides will have the same effect as the 4 hour ride.  I would try to get the long run in though since you took last weekend easy on the running.  Maybe do the 90 minutes on Friday instead of the 60?
