Not to win my AG. Maybe to ambitious, but I have a dream. I placed 20th in my AG at IMLP in 2009. IMAZ 20th in my AG M45-49 was 10:21:06. I know it's apples and oranges. |

Beating you, well the Dream of dreams. Dreams are good....I deal better with reality. For everyone here, I will always give my 100%, no BS, honest appraisal. I can't even begin to tell you, this isn't about you James, how may people I hear talk about their IM expectations that are just so far beyond what they are capable of at the time. It's good to dream, but IM is JUST MATH. Simple math, actually. There are no miracle performances. You just either do what you have trained up for or do worse. In 3 IM's I have always given an honest estimate of my time and have hit it every time. Not many people can say that. Because I don't lie to myself. |

Master 2621 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Forget Can’t stop think about the LP bike course. What a course!!! I think my favorite part those first few steep hills. Get the HR up and the sweat to start beading. The second favorite part is the turn out of Jay and that steep little section. Make me what to grab the top and pull it up to make it steeper. My least favorite part is the Haselton Rd out and back. I really don’t know why. Maybe b/c seen everybody. Hey was http://www.ironmanusa.com/ web site was changed? Edited by tasr 2009-12-16 6:45 PM |

LP 2009 was my second Ironman distance. 1st was the original course back in 86’. I KQ at the Windward HIM in Kaneohe, HI and didn’t go b/c of funds. So I join in with a group of 10 guys to do the original course on Oahu. We had to have our own support vehicle and medic. I finished and my support team was completely wasted. They were all Army buddies. I see your point/s. Although I don’t subscribe it’s just math or science. I believe it’s a lot more and a LOT of heart. I do believe you still have to train hard nothing getting around that, but there are plenty of miracles in this sport. I am one, without divulging. |

I didn't think so You know DC you are going to do a lot better than you think. I had a drill sergeant tell me about losing your virginity, one time. Shame on me for forgetting the own IM miracle I was witness to. A forty something year old mother from Greenwich, CT, who overcame a skiing accident in 1972 that nearly killed her and almost left her paralyzed who made it to the Ironman in Kona in 1984 and set an AG record. I am nothing compared to her, I would be nothing if it wasn't for her. I love you, Mom. ..ok, smack talk back on. Edited by bryancd 2009-12-16 7:58 PM |

Overall placing and AG placing will determine who is King of the IM's. Right now, there is ONE person doing this race that I think has a very legitimate shot at beating my 35th OA and 3rd in the AG. Anybody want to take a guess? What about Jorge, Bryan you going to hurt his feeling cause he is not inculded. No hard feelings at all, it is all good old fun and everything is fair game, after all it is just smack talk with our crazy uncle! Besides, Bryan is correct, it is impossible to have high expectations, throw a big talk and to be able to deliver by performing well at the ironman distance in your rookie year. I mean, it is not like any AGer can prepare by doing the adequate training for him/her, have realistic expectations and throw in a perfect executed race on your IM debut getting to the big island on your very 1s try, that is just CRAZY talk... unless you are ummmm Bryan |

Shhhhhhh! Reverse psycholgy..... He coaches Alaina, I think he might know a thing or two about going fast. He's been injured and or sick for over a year now and his training and race results have been well below what he is capable of. The question is can he put it all back together over the next 6 months and race this distance the way he wants to? That's why I am holding off any predictions until he starts to put it together. Not counting him or anyone out, just need to wait and see. Edited by bryancd 2009-12-16 10:09 PM |

You've gotta be kidding me! I was easily spinning my 39/23 up the parts out of LP and flying by everyone without even breaking a sweat. There is not a steep section on that entire course ....... everything is gradual. The only time I even stood up was to stretch out! Haselton was great because every uphill I would smoke people without trying and every downhill I would cruise and recover. I love rollers as that is my element and strength. It was funny because there were these two chicks and two guys who were working their azzes off and looking all serious. I would roll by them smiling on all the uphills and they would try to blow by me on the downhills (drafting mind you). Then when we turned right to head back to LP and then turned left to get to the bears it was the last I saw of them. Once the road turned up - bye bye! I love climbing! |

I love climbing! maybe next year you actually break a sweat and go faster than the almost 6hrs it took you last year, and let's not talk about that run (let the smack talk continue) on a serious note - the 1st climb out of LP (around mile 3?) and the climb at turn onto 86 might not be super steep but they are a good 4-5%, add the gradual climbing you do all day (except the descend to Keene) and no wonder why it is so easy to make pacing mistakes in that course. Just in case I'll be riding a 12/25 plus my 165mm cranks... |
