Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2011 is complete! Post 'em and give us your best insight from the year of training! My insight: Volume doesn't necessarily equate to better performance. For me a 19% reduction in volume led to a better performance across the board and most importantly a healthy one!

That is some impressive volume shorty!! I think if I add up all three years I have done tri's, i still don't get to your bike volume!!

Run was about 120 miles more this year. Bike and swim were way less. Taking an extended break the last few months did not help!! I didn't post December because it is embarassing. Feel free to stop by my log and harrass me about it! Happy New Year Peeps! Have fun and be safe!

This was the first year my wife outran me! This was a rebuild year for me after a post ironman slump. I learned it is MUCH easier to lose fitness than to keep it.

I was trying to figure this out last night...to no avail... You can create a custom workout and do it that way. It isn't walk per se, but I used to do it for my rest intervals between mile repeats.
I used Gale Bernhardt's half iron plan for my first HIM last year and liked it. I'm putting it into a Google spreadsheet and will post a link to it when I'm done. I jumped in a week 20, 27 weeks is a little too long for me. I'd be interested in that plan, I can see why Mike is looking at the Don Fink plan though, it just fits my lifestyle so well. (By the way, good for you Mike, great to pay your money and commit yourself!) I'm on the final day of my running streak - it's part of the Challenge me section of the forums. I'm amazed that I haven't injured myself, I never normally run on consecutive days. This is partly due to most of my runs being short but I'm sure that doing most of the runs barefoot has made a difference. Next week it's back to swimbikerun!
Here is the link to the Gale Bernhardt plan. Let me know if it works (or doesn't work). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ar5EpJvYM2b1dEs0VjFhZlR3Rnh0R1o3WFd1NG1rUXc Mike |

December was my best month running. Finally seem to have put my achillies issue behind me.
Hit all my goals, although the run total is below want I would have wanted if I did not have to fight back from injury. |

SSMinnow - 2011-12-31 11:34 AM 2011 is complete! Post 'em and give us your best insight from the year of training! My 2011 and December totals...
A very slow December... especially on the run, working out an Achilles issue (Doug - I'd like to hear about your success and how you got there) The 2011 Archery time only includes about half the tournaments I shot in - can probably more than triple that if I included all the practice time and the other tourneys. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy New Year to All SWBKRUNers! Sorry I haven't been by in a while. I wanted to stop in to say hi and let you you know that I didn't just disappear off the face of the earth. After my Oly in June at Almaden (and an celebratory trip to Europe for my DHs 40th b-day) I had a major accident and crashed my bike. I seriously f*#@)! up my left side - head, arm, rotator cuff and knee (think longish hospital stay). I had two surgeries I am now in recovery/rehabilitation mode. I have 14 screws and two loooong plates are holding together my radius and ulna. I just got out of my arm jail after 4 months of being in casts! Happily, I was just cleared to lift up to 5 lbs and have started to run again. I will start swimming in 3 weeks and see how it goes. Oh..and I just bought a Cycle-ops trainer (used - older) to help me start biking until I can learn to balance again...Although I am not even sure my bike still works, I will get back up and out and on a bike again and I will get back to where I was before the accident! I've planned a few races but we will see... I know the group is closed so I will try again next go around to jump in and reconnect with all of you lovely peeps. You guys kept me inspired and laughing the first half of the year! Again, warm wishes for a great 2012! Cheri |

This is my 3rd year of training. 2500 miles is 750 more than last year. My run was 70 miles less than last year and swim was about the same. Happy New Year everyone!

Mildly bummed that I didn't pass 1400 miles for my running but the last 2 weeks were tough on me. As faras the big picture, no big deal. For all of my time constraints, I had a great year!!!! I did some really cool stuff and had a lot of fun doing what I did. Looking forward to 2012 and more fun. And thankful everyday that I can and get to do all of the wonderful things I record on BT. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Redknight - 2011-12-30 5:27 PM There are several good stretches for the IT band. One of the best I use for my clients is to lie on your back with knees bent. Lift one leg straight up and let your partner (this is a two person stretch J ) hold that leg. Your partner places one hand on the hip of the leg which is up and gently pushes across your body. Make sure the hip does not move and the knee does not bend. Hold 30+ seconds and repeat 3 sets. I love this stretch to keep my ITB from tightening up. I taught my 12 year old son how to help me with this. He's usually the one around when I'm getting ready for my longer runs. He thinks its funny helping the "old man" limbering up |

Just a little more effort (like doing something this week) and I could've rounded them off at 350, 250 and 15,000. Still, it beats the hell out of the zeros I posted in 2010. |
