QUESTION******  The IMCA merchandise store is open on line and they have cool Subaru IMCA arm warmers.  They don't say FINISHER or have a year or anything.   Is it bad form to wear the race gear prior to the race (will I be fatally cursing myself) or can I get them as great motivation for training in the cold and dark when I don't want to go outside?

BTW - I am SO buying that finishers jacket next year.  That is cool!!!!

Tony and Sam:  I rode the Ft. Ritchie course with my hubby this week and it is great.  It is a lot of climbing (1500 ft) and beautiful.  I think you will enjoy it!

We'll get volunteer shirts this year. You HAVE to wait until you finish the race to buy that jazz.
You may have missed it _ I did a last minute sign-up for our 70.3 which is Aug 1st weekend. It cost me $300. But i really want one of the bike jerseys from it. So it will be a $400 jersey. But you cant buy it, unless your do it.
You do not want to be a 'poser'.

fattyfatfat - 2010-07-14 9:50 AM if you log a 25 yard swim workout please be sure to log that you walked to the fridge or you held your breath for 8 seconds or you turned your head to the left or you can spell green or you can count to four on one hand or you can write your name backwards or you can start a car with keys to that car or you can open a door or you can close a door or you like going to the zoo or you have a life size poster of betty freidan above your bed that you say good night every night.

BITE ME!!!!!

I put that in there sort-of to be funny... but also sort-of as a diary of my life, as I thought it was fun doing the relay and wanted to have it in there. And, sort of, because I knew @$$#@!#$ like you can't resist making snide comments when people enter in such "dribble." And as I entered it, I thought, "You know, for someone else this might be a huge accomplishment -- something to take pride in."

Sheeesh.

Cool

velcromom - 2010-07-14 10:55 AM I know, I know.  However, it's a woman's perogative to change her mind!

I'm disappointed with my CdA performance.  I KNOW I can do better.  I feel like it's unfinished business.  I'm also getting itchy to start training again.  So......I'm still not sure, have 4 months to decide.

My best friend is in, her first.  She's an amazing athlete, and would be an awesome training partner - she's way faster than I am on the run and the bike, and I could gain a lot training with her.  So.......big question is the family and their reaction.  We all know what a sacrifice this really is for everyone.  Right now they are all just shaking their collective heads at me, but Jeff is wavering, he may race, too.  Beth is even thinking about it, but she's not done ANY tri yet, so not sure about that.  Not that it stopped me.

So, shoot me now.....I may have to eat those words.   I'm also seriously coontemplating another try at Boston 2011, Jeff has committed to race, which means qualifying again this fall.  I am a masochist.

Off to Canada - get to meet Trevor!  Yea!

So funny... my thoughts on many fronts. CDA was awesome, but I feel like I left something out there (something MORE than my lunch!!), and so now it becomes some of my "unfinished business." On a ride with a girlfriend yesterday (a friend who hated "losing" me to IM training!), she said, "I KNEW you'd pull something like that!!" My family is nothing but encouraging, which tells me I accomplished one of my goals of not having it be too disruptive on our lives. When my son encourages me to do it again, I say, "Even if it means I'm too tired and don't want to play catch in the spring?" "YES!!" he screams. Too sweet. When I asked my husband about preferred accomodations (hotel or a friend's about 30 min. from race site), he didn't bat an eyelash and sat and honestly thought about where he'd want to stay again.

I almost think it would be easier to have them all grumpy and saying, "Mom, NEVER do an IM again! We HATED it!!"

Ha!!! I LOVE that you are thinking AZ for 2011. That's in November?

Happy trails, Linda. Come to the PacNW again soon, only closer to my parts!!

SSMinnow - 2010-07-14 1:59 PM Sam--I don't define a good swim by my time necessarily.  I am finding that courses are far from accurate, especially now that I have my 310XT with the new firmware (double checked this with my swim's coach's GSP above water this week and it was spot on).  My timed 1.2m OWS this week was 2:00/100, but in some races I have swam sub 1:30??? uh, don't think so even though I would love it. For me, a good swim is one where I come out of the water and just feel it.  That happened in my last sprint--I started harder, my siting was spot on and I was out middle of my wave. My Garmin time was 1:50/100 (although the results reported 1:32/100--course was short!).

Birdy--I can always count on you to add levity to my day!

Tracy--I wondered the same thing.  I HATE carrying anything around my waist when I am already tired and potentially bloated.  For my last HIM, I decided to go the water stop/gel route. I drank H20 at every stop and occasionally would take a little gel with it. I also popped 2 salt stick tabs every hour.  It worked well for me.  By the time I hit the run, I am so sick of drinking sweet beverages that the thought of dowing Gatorade, Infinit or Perform makes me want to puke.  I am hoping that same strategy will work this weekend where the temps will be in the 90s with high humidity.  Time willl tell, but that is my two cents.

Tracy--one other thing, the concentration of beverages served on courses seemst to vary widely which is another reason I   like the gel/water route.

Why do you keep calling me Sam?  that's the 2nd time you have done that recently.  I did change my avatar.  Put your reading glasses on ; )

Tony--Uhhhh, busted....that avatar makes me think its SAM's photo.  You can expect to be called that all the way   through the Tour unless you change it.  Answer is still the same though!!!!

DJ--SHAME ON YOU! Tongue Out 2 I am very fragile when it comes to my height ever since I was denied the chance to do the go carts at a company function because I didn't meet the height/weight requirement.  Probably won't sleep all night now thinking about the cruelty of being under 5'. :

Day one in Calgary......love it!  If I lived here I'd do all of my training at 6pm.......then start drinking at 9pm, while it's still light outside!!!  Nice little town.....way too many cowboy hats.

Awesome dinner.....tomorrow we're off to Banff!

I've often wondered why they didn't have one given the way the course is set up.  Where did it come from?

Gah I am really bad at this catching back up thing! Thanks SSMinnow for the reminder that I had disappeared.

We have a slight plumbing problem in our house and it is unnerving. Luckily a plumber is coming out in an hour! Nothing beats turning on your master shower or kitchen sink and watching water rush out from underneath the master toilet! Thankfully the guest bathroom side of the house was unaffected so at least we would potty last night!

SO I am a slacker and never made it to the "Are you racing this weekend thread" for last week so instead I will post a direct link to my race report! Laughing
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=217312

Read it people! I realize I am very slow (Possibly the slowest member of the MG) but tell me I did something good. LOL On the bright side... no penalties so at least that didn't slow me down

No Pictures for this race since the Husband and I both did this one and had no spectators. I am hoping the official photographers took something good!
