2011 is complete!  Post 'em and give us your best insight from the year of training!

My 2011 and December totals...

December's totals:
Bike:6h 33m 02s  - 92.74 Mi
Run:2h 53m 32s  - 19.65 Mi

2011 totals
Bike:39h 09m 54s  - 676.7 Mi
Run:94h 00m 02s  - 559.1 Mi
Swim:2h 57m 05s  - 5077.87 Yd
Strength:2h 35m
Archery:98h 30m
Plyometrics:1h 27m

A very slow December... especially on the run, working out an Achilles issue (Doug - I'd like to hear about your success and how you got there)

The 2011 Archery time only includes about half the tournaments I shot in - can probably more than triple that if I included all the practice time and the other tourneys.

Well you asked. First I only had an issue with my left achillies. My dostor said something at my annual physical that made me realize he knows little about athletes. I went on my own to a physical therapist recommended by Tracy from our MG.

From the fact that my issue was with only one achillies, my PT started from the idea that I had some mechanical inbalance. My hips were very out of line, so she started by aligning my hip flexors through treatment. When she could get them aligned she determined that I have a 1/2" leg length difference. Left is shorter.

She also checked my balance and lower leg length strength. Turnsout I was very week in both. So each week she gave me a new exercise to improve either one. I did certain ones each day and some stretches like calf raises and lunges every day (multiple times).

Slowly things have improved to the point where I rarely think about it.

Now I have to work out my ITB.

Hope that helps.

Well I managed to get my last 6.8km run in for the end of the year. I missed out on the resolution run race this year by about a day, so I figured while all my friends and minions were out racing, I better go out and hammer out some miles.

Food is all laid out at my house awaiting my running and triathlon friends to arrive after their one hour commute back home.

Funny how my circle of friends has completely changed now that my life is about being healthy and active....

Have a fun, safe and Happy New years everyone. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE.  It's not worth it. I lost one of my best friends that way 10 years ago.

I agree, don't drink and drive.  Saw this online and thought I would pass it along.  I just re-read the article and it's only in a couple states.

"If you've had a few too many while celebrating the coming year, you can call            1-800-222-4357       (AAA-HELP), tell the operator, "I need a Tipsy Tow," and the truck will come to collect you and your vehicle.

The offer is good to both AAA members and non-members. The service offers a free, one-way tow up to 10 miles for the driver and additional passengers if there is space in the tow truck."

My 2011 totals are an embarassment, mainly due to foot & knee injury. Did build up my swim nicely, though, and I'm happy with that.

Been down for the past 1.5 days with a nasty cold, and I'm going to bed early tonight, and hoping it just goes away. I want to get up early tomorrow, and start 2012 with a nice bike ride, a run, and then just kicking back and relaxing. Right now, though, I feel like crap.

Happy New Year, everyone!!

Ok totals for the year:

2011 totals
Bike:137h 58m 09s  - 3245.68 KM
Run:116h 57m 14s  - 1067.05 KM
Swim:71h 41m 44s  - 147355 M

I'm pleased that I managed to train through the Winter but I've slacked off since the Noosa tri.

I've found that I actually quite enjoy using the trainer for shorter rides so I'm going to do more of this this year as well as increasing my number of running days by adding easy aerobic runs to trainer rides.

I need to make have a new swimming focus this year, I'm going to enter more ocean swims and try to make my swimming more efficient.

2011 is complete!  Post 'em and give us your best insight from the year of training!

December's totals:
Bike:16h 00m 23s  - 355.47 Mi
Run:13h 04m 57s  - 86.76 Mi
Swim:18h 20m  - 18050 M

2011 totals
Bike:181h 22m 59s  - 3197.94 Mi
Run:139h 17m 54s  - 901.83 Mi
Swim:176h 34m 57s  - 208400 M
Run warm-up and cool-down:56h 33m

Insight: consistency pays off and you can only be consistent if you don't get injured.

My swim numbers are lower than last year (earthquake closed my health club for 5 weeks), my run is about 50 miles higher and my bike is about 1000 miles higher.    My plan for 2012 is to take all those numbers higher, but only if my body agrees.

Happy New Year everyone!!

....edit to add in my run warm-up/cool-down numbers. I try to 10 minutes before and after every run.  Amazing to see how much time that adds up to over the course of a year

Good (but long) article about Desi Davila in Runner's World.  Her run at Boston was awesome.

My 2011 Numbers

2011 totals
Bike:275h 49m 04s  - 4578.68 Mi
Run:85h 45m 30s  - 547.72 Mi
Swim:24h 31m 48s  - 69610 M
Strength:39h 30m

Most of the running and swimming is from early 2011.

Back problems and doing a ton of races (25ish) knocked down my bike mileage a bit, but overall I'm happy with the numbers.

Happy New Year!!!  First run of 2012 is in the bank.  I was hoping to do the New Year's Day Dash 5m run, but with a fresh new layer of ice and 32mph winds, opted for the safer alternative; the TM.

Off to swim and then watch the Packers!

Happy New Year to All SWBKRUNers!

Sorry I haven't been by in a while. I wanted to stop in to say hi and let you you know that I didn't just disappear off the face of the earth.   After my Oly in June at Almaden (and an celebratory trip to Europe for my DHs 40th b-day) I had a major accident and crashed my bike. I seriously f*#@)! up my left side - head, arm, rotator cuff and knee (think longish hospital stay).  I had two surgeries  I am now in recovery/rehabilitation mode.  I have 14 screws and two loooong plates are holding together my radius and ulna.  I just got out of my arm jail after 4 months of being in casts! Happily,  I was just cleared to lift up to 5 lbs and have started to run again.  I will start swimming in 3 weeks and see how it goes. Oh..and I just bought a Cycle-ops trainer (used - older) to help me start biking until I can learn to balance again...Although I am not even sure my bike still works, I will get back up and out and on a bike again and I will get back to where I was before the accident! I've planned a few races but we will see...

I know the group is closed so I will try again next go around to jump in and reconnect with all of you lovely peeps. You guys kept me inspired and laughing the first half of the year!

Again, warm wishes for a great 2012!

Cheri

Cheri,

So sorry to hear about your accident.  It sounds like you are one tough cookie.  I'm glad to hear your recovery is coming along and I can sense the strength of your dedication and your spirit.  It's great to have you back!!

Happy New Year!

I'm back from a completely training free vacation, and ready to be a triathlete again. HIM plan starts tomorrow!

2011 totals:

Bike:2h 28m 25s  - 39.98 Mi
Run:251h 12m 40s  - 1094.18 Mi
Swim:10h 02m  - 20870.49 Yd

Insights from the year... I had a great time and enjoyed some amazing adventures. It was fun and I don't have any regrets, but completing a marathon every 3 weeks or so did a lot of damage to my training, hah! 2012 will be much less racing and much more training. Oh, and I'll find my bike and the pool again.

Awesome Mike!

Speaking of trainers. What kind of trainer do you all have?  I just purchased an older used cycle-ops off craigslist and I don't like it.  Maybe I need to get a different one???  Anyone feel strongly about thier trainer?  Suggestions or recommendations.

I'm a big fan of the Computrainer, but it is more expensive than the normal trainer.  Doug and Tony seem to be good at finding CT deals if you're at all interested.  I did used to use the Cyclops before I got my CT and it worked pretty well for me. Maybe you just need to get used to it?

2012 is off and running er, biking!  Got in a good 20 miles today, most of it covering a new route for me.  The best part was that I was actually catching and passing people for a change.  I spent all of last year being the one getting passed.
