How's about I run 5.58 miles? Make it an even 500 for the year. (BTW, Salty probably had that much done in January ) OH, and I biked 93 miles more in December than in November! And ran (including tonight) 20 miles more in December than November. DaYum! Yesterday I was telling DH and DS1 about my totals for the year and DS1 commented that I'd basically ridden my bike from Albuquerque to Omaha! Awesome!!! |

Wanna hear something cool? Before my race I thought "I can't wait to finish my race and update my pod mates" I totally thought of the Manatee's. Feeling like a member of the "family" already. Here is my race report: FUC**NG AWESOME!!! Started out hectic - since my boss wouldn't give me the day off, I got up at 4:30 a.m. - went to work and got my work truck - delivered wine to 2 of my stops - then went home, changed into my running clothes and drove to the race in my work truck (A big truck full of wine). At home, I couldn't find my heart rate watch - so my race plan was out the window. Got to the race 10 mins before start - it was 32 degrees out. Started at the front - was running with "Al" and asked him what his watch said our pace was. He replied "7:18"... I'm thinking "WTF, I never run that fast!" Better slow down. Slowed down to 7:25 or so, keeping a pack ahead of me insight. I new if I could keep them insight early, I could pass some on the hills. Al took off at about mile 4 - I was thinking, "I'll catch him later" (I did). Hit the hills and the pack started falling apart, not me, I started picking them off 1 at a time. Made the turn around and picked off a few more competitors. The legs felt good from mile 7 - 9...then at mile 9 one of the people coming the other way said "You are in 8th place." I couldn't believe it....so I ran faster! LOL...I went from an 7:30 pace to 7:05 for that mile! (I didn't know it then - checked my splits later). I knew I was running faster than I should, so I slowed down a bit...and kept that pace. Shortly after, I got passed by 3 people - which surprised me. They had one hell of a kick. Mile 10 - 12...pretty damned good. At mile 12 an 18 year old kid passed me. I kept him in site thinking I would pass him back in the last 1/2 mile. I kicked it in and was closing the gap but ran out of time to get him. As I was chasing him, my hands went numb. I left everything on the course and had a great race. I have never pushed myself so hard that I couldn't possibly have gone any faster. IT FELT GREAT! I finished my race in 1:36:55 to finish 12th place overall, and 3rd in my age group! I am still on cloud 9 and think I will be for a while to come. My splits were:
Super excited and can't wait for my next race! I'm running a 15K 1/27/13. Eagerly awaiting race reports from Manatee's Marcus and Jo Holy cow, I mean, holy sea cow (manatees)!! That's a great race, 12th overall!!! BIG congrats, Chad!!!! Love the added part about taking the wine truck to the race! Edited by melbo55 2012-12-31 7:43 PM |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Chad--awesome job! And welcome to the pod...we are kinda like that, once you are in, we get in!! That is a fantastic way to finish out your year. I didn't end up with a run/walk today, but we did take the dogs for a good walk. We ran a few errands over at the mall this evening, one held the dogs outside and the other went in. What a madhouse! People honking at each other, eek! We often go to a movie on NYE, but we have decided that we would not be welcome all snuffly and coughing. So we bought some 'fun food' and we will rent some and stay in. I hope everyone else's evening is exactly as they would wish it to be! Happy New Year and good luck to tomorrows racing manatees! |

Attached is what it looked like when I left for my run. My 2012 totals are:
This also does not include a round of Insanity I did last February/March before joining BT or my "forced" Army PT. I think I should be able to get in at least 50% more distance this year, pending work training events. Well done on the run regardless when you did it Good totals and "extras," especially since you had so much difficult stuff going on this year. And we LOVE pictures. |

Hope everyone is having a great New Years Eve! Finished December up with my strongest month so far at 38 hours. I know that's not even half of what some of y'all do but I've only been doing this 8 months so I'm very pleased with how December went. Can't wait to step it up even more in January. Spent some time discussing my schedule with my coach and I am going to do a sprint in March as practice followed by a long run that afternoon and then my A race my first 70.3 in April. My training is on track and I can't wait to see how my season goes! 38 is great! Consistency is more important than anything and you've steadily put the time in. Love the new avatar, very cute! |

Here is what I found: Those are some impressive improvements Chris. Congrats. In fact, with those numbers I think you should participate in Rev3 Florida not volunteer ( although volunteers are great) );I refuse to compare my 2011 and 2012 numbers because they would only depress me! I think what 2012 taught me is that I am no longer able to recover from doing stupid things as easily as I used to be. So, 2013 will find me paying attention to the signals my body is sending me and doing a better job of recognizing the difference between normal work out soreness and injury.
If I keep this up, I'll be a force to reckon with in 2019!!!!!! Seriously though, I do believe that a few more improvements will be seen again this year. Seeing Skrat called me out to write a race report, I will. Darn that manatee peer pressure.
The Commitment Day 5k turned out to be a "fun" run, so bibs but no timing. The energy and enthusiasm was infectious. There were about 1000 people (lots of families and people doing their 1st 5k) or so on Ford Field, which is where our Detroit Lions lose play. I arrived way too early but the start was inside the field so it was warm and toasty. They took our pictures and we had to sign a big sign with what healthy lifestyle change we were committing to. Lots of great warm up music and dancing. I need to download some of those songs and use them as a warm up. It was a great fun. My commitment is: To make my health a priority and consistency/follow through. The run was sort of a run/walk for the 1st 2 miles and then I warmed up. It is really weird that I now "feel" it when I am not warm. When I am warmed up, I am the energizer bunny and can go and go. It usually takes me 2-2.5 miles and then my body remembers how to run. The last part of the run was GREAT!!! Warm, fast, strong, flowing, etc... The run was long. It was a 3.9 mile 5k, according to my running buddy's Strata. I know it was longer than 3.1 so I am calling it 3.5 miles for my logs. I can't convince myself it was 3.9 but I know 3.1 and that was definitely longer. For my time 44:49, 3.5 miles is probably about right. I am excited to see where this Big Sur training takes me. I looked down and saw my cellulite jiggling on my thighs (gross, I know). I know that the past 6 months of hell have taken their toll on my fitness. I have gained 15lbs since April. Time to recommit to ME! I spent a lot of time in 2012 trying to get and keep my family healthy, now it is my turn. And so it begins....As of today, I have run every day in 2013 and that momentum will continue!! Awesome, Jo! Way to make that commitment to yourself! |
