Hey Dineen

Very tacky to mention your wife's homemade coffee cake while showing the boobs of another woman...no matter how hot or fake they are! Seriously.

Not tacky, just well informed.

For example, I know Shelly would want to take this to the island for sure:

DougRob - 2010-07-21 3:11 PM I went for a ride with my coach at 2 PM today. Timed it perfectly with the discussion here about heat and humidity.

We were doing hill repeats/intervals. it was 98F outside. I started to feel light-headed and had to stop and sit in the shade. When we got back on the bikes it was all I could do to hold a half-reasonable line. I had no power and fought a cramp in my right calf. I drank the whole time. My neck was real stiff.

I have experienced that before. I told Marty I was a rel sweater, but he got to see it first hand. I think that was the first time I have impressed him. Not that I wanted to do it by sweating. My sweat-rate is normally 1lbs./10 minutes. In this weather I am sure it was higher.

I am glad it is over and I am in the AC.

THAT is not good.  BE CAREFUL!!!!   yeah sweat rate is something to watch.  doug i'm with you on the sweat loss... it nothing for me to lose 4% body weight on a hour run.   here's a hijack from one of ryan's post's last june. we were talking about long course nutrition but it's relevant to this.  thanks again ryan.

~~~~~~~
"...make sure that you're watching your electrolyte balance and fluid intake. Part of this would also be calculating your sweat rate:
http://www.trihardermultisports.com/THM_SwRate.aspx
and thus determining your fluid loss. Make sure that you're staying within good levels of hydration (too much can be as detrimental as too little). Watch your electrolytes too... I use Thermolytes, especially when it gets hot out. Imbalances become very obvious when you come back from a hard workout and your skin is salty. If you're using fluid calories, it's difficult to remember that you may need to take in plain water from time to time.
Hope that helps!"
Funny thing is I was drinking gatorade (thanks to Suzy for the Speedfill) and I took Thermalytes before and after. It was just too hot. I am sure over 100 with the heat index. The sprints up the hills were also to blame. Live and learn.
All of this heat stuff totally reminds me of a run I did with my father-in-law two summers ago in Arizona. In fact, it was the main portion of the eulogy I gave at his funeral. I'm cutting/pasting the story here... Anyone who knows me knows I don't do heat. The longer I live in WA, the truer this becomes.
===========================================
It was June 28th in Arizona, and Howard invited me for “about a 5-mile run.” It was 90 degrees at 6:45 in the morning when we hit the trails. Trusting that we really were only going to run about 5 miles, I didn’t bring any water. As we walked to our starting spot, Howard told me about the times that he fished water bottles out of garbage cans on his runs. This should have been my clue to turn around and quit while I was ahead.
Figuring I could survive for the 45 minutes I was planning on running, I willingly went along. An hour later, Howard announced that we’d arrived at this cool rock formation that he wanted to show me. Great!! That means this run is done, right?! WRONG!! “OK!” He said, “Let’s head back. I think we go this way… I’m not entirely sure… awww well, let’s give it a try.” For the next hour I cursed Howard for bringing me out into the middle of the desert in the middle of the summer, without any water. I was sure I was going to get heat stroke, or worse. How could I have been so stupid to trust him? How many times had Dave and Howard gone out for “a short run,” only to return more than two hours later (while everyone at home was waiting for them so we could go out for breakfast)? When would I learn??!!
But that was how Howard lived… you take what comes, you roll with it, you make the best of it, and you come out just fine on the other side.
===================================
I remember returning from that run totally swollen (my hands swelled up huge during the run). I just sat in the pool for a LONG time and I was spent, totally spent, for about 2 days after that. Fortunately there were lots of mountain bikers out where we were -- had I been in true dire straits we could have gotten water or help. But still! I never let him hear the end of that one...
Hey Mett.... Question for you... I thought of this while I was out riding tonight.  Last week (or 2 weeks ago) you are talking about knee/shin pain, loose cleats, etc.... Just wondering what came of that?  Did you fix it? Go to the bike shop (did they charge)? Haven't done anything?  I am assuming it felt fine on your century then?
Just curious so in the future if others talk about knee pain, loose cleats, etc... We can say- "I know this guy who had a similar problem and...."
swbkrun - 2010-07-21 11:45 AM Ok so aside from racing and training let's get to know each other just so slightly (not to steal Suzy's Wed. Thunder).....
On a deserted island:
1.)What's the one cd you would take with you?
2.)What is the one type of food you would take with you?
3.)What is the one material item you would bring (aside from family)?
1) It would have to be a compilation I made. I have so many different tastes in music.
2) Oatmeal. Love the stuff. and you can add tropical fruit to it to change the flavour
3)A really  big honking knife.
