Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed

Great efforts in difficult conditions everyone, seems weird hearing about icy winds and snow when it was so hot here today!

Noosa was a great race, huge number of bikes in transition and sporty people all over town (instead of the usual fat tourists!).

My cycle leg was slow and I just didn't have any kick in the run but I finished it and my knee behaved itself so I'm back in the game!!!

I was about 30 seconds slower than my last Oly which was disappointing at first but then I remebered that it was only a few weeks ago that I couldn't run.

Very warm and humid 30 deg (Celcius) day and water temp was 24 deg so no wetsuits.

Anyway, finished in 2:52 (swim 29, bike and T1/2 1:29, run 53:44),RR to come...

Hi everyone.    Interesting to see that everyone (except probably David and myself) were racing on a Saturday.

Congrats to Andy, Rachel, Sam, Doug, Linda and David.  Hopefully, I did not forget anyone.

John: ROTFLMAO....you should have gotten up earlier and gone out for a long run.

Steve: great pics....looking pretty tough in that second shot.

I did my first HM since 2000 today.  My previous HM PR was a 1:48:04 back in 1994.  Today I stuck to my 5 min/km strategy for the most part (a little slower on the ups and a little faster on the downs) and ended up finishing in 1:44:23.  I am happy, but sore.   I know that I was 84th in the elderly gentlemen division (50-59), but not sure how many people ended up racing. Looks like about 400 or so signed up.  RR tomorrow.  It was a little on the cold side and windy in places, but nothing like what some of the others raced in.

Nice work to David and Dan!!!  Thumbs up to you Doug for using the MG as motivation!  Whatever it takes.....

I'm in a sports funk.  The Badgers went from an A+ team when playing dinky schools, to a C- when playing who it counts.  Phooey!

Great racing, Dan! Your strategy was perfect! Isn't it amazing to know you are speedier now than 17 years ago!? David, so glad your knee behaved, excellent start to your season! Way to go, guys.

Side note:  Was happy (selfish, I know) to get home and find out my boys football game yesterday (that I was going to miss) was cancelled due to weather.  So it has been rescheduled for this afternoon.  I didn't miss their game - YAY!

Going to go back and try to catch up with all the other mg activities this weekend.

David, stellar to be so close to your pr when you haven't been able to run for awhile. And Dan, yeah, love that you crushed that pr!! Huge inspiration!!Need to run off a small hangover.... Wow, I'm playing catch up today.  What a great weekend of results.

David--chatting it up with Macca and the kids must have been awesome.  Glad you are healed.  Great job

Congrats Andy and Rachel on your prs

Doug and Julia -- That sounds like a tough tough race--cold, wind, cold, wind.  Way to show us how it's done.

Sam, running 30 miles is freakin' awesome.  Doing it in the cold, rain and sleet is impressive.  You rock!

Dan, what an impressive job on your half.  You are like wine and just keep getting better with age :-)

John, thanks for NOT posting pics

I had a 5K yesterday.  It was a cold morning (35 degrees), but it was a beautiful day.  The race was only a half hour from home, but it was more hilly that I'm used to.  It was mostly down on the way out and up on the way back.  I really wanted to get in under 30 minutes, and I though I had banked enough time in the first half of the run to make it happen, but I didn't quite get it.  I finished in 30:39.  I did end up with a new 5K pr.   5/15 in my AG.  Hubster finished 3rd in his AG.

P.S. I saw a guy run a half marathon dressed in drag--daisy duke cutoff shorts, spaghetti strap top, make up, wig, and he crossed the finish like smoking a cigar!   He even had a "temporary" tattooed tramp stamp and a g-string.  It was freaking hilarious!!  I don't know why, but I thought of John. Would he "hit it?"

Custom Designed race kit by my 7 year old.  He wanted to put the reactor for Ironman's heart on the front, and rockets on the back to make me go faster.  With a message on the bottom in case the day gets long.  I love it.

Quick drive by....  I earned the right to call myself a triathlete for another year...  overall pretty happy with my race, dropped almost 14min off my last time on this course - training a bit obviously helps.  Gotta go out for a 30-45 min "SSMinnow" ride and then off to church for trunk or treating.  Will drop by later this evening and do a race report

Reading a friend's RR Iwas reminded of something I left out of mine. In T1 just after exiting the water I was so dizzy I could barely stay upright. Weird feeling.

Interesting day today.

When I pre-rode the course this morning it wasn't that wet (since everything was still frozen).  Got a bit sloppier as the morning went on.

I actually got the hole-shot and was the first guy to the turn and had a nice little gap.  Then all of a sudden a dude riding a 29'er mtn. bike wearing an olive oil dress went flying by, never saw him again, he waxed the whole field.  First lap I go through a small lake of icy cold water, so feet soaked for the next 35 minutes (we went through that "lake" 6 times).  Got passed by a few more guys as the race went on, 1/2 way through last lap I was coming back up on the guy in 5th or 6th and passing then psssssst.   Flatted.   Ended up running/carrying, coasting downhills the rest of the race, ended up cold, soaking wet and muddy,12th.

Then keys accidentally got locked in the car, so I am standing around in the parking lot wearing sam's socks, and my bike gloves on my feet trying to warm them up, waiting for they guy to show up, so we could pay him 200 bucks to break into our car.

Then I realized I left my shoes and socks sitting on the curb, but luckilly I was able to call a teammate to pick them up.

When we got 1/2 way home we all decided to start the day over...

FWIW Beach2 Battleship Half and Full IM were held yesterday. My coach did the half and was first  out of the water in an astounding 19:53! He finished 13th OA. In the full a friend Lucky finished 27th in seconds over 10 hours! He would ahve broken 10 but slowed to hug family at the end. These guys had similar weather to us in Washington, NC and were phenomanal!

Holy Cow so much racing from the group especially since winter seems to settling in across most of the East Coast.

I'm in awe Doug and Linda.  I don't know how you kept going in the cold and wind.  And great job on the AG results.

Nice PRs - Jayne and Dan!

Andy - great way to wrap up the season!!!!
