You guys are amazing!  What a wonderful group of end-of-the season stats!  Great results in brutal conditions!

Taper starts NOW.  Ran almost 16 today, and my CDA last run was 16, so I'm feeling okay.  Wish I'd had more bike time, but it is what it is.

Time to start making lists.....we're having Thanksgiving here, for 28.  We'll get home from AZ Tuesday night late, so 38ish hours to prep-yikes!!

Thanks for sharing the pics David.

Congrats to Jayne, Andy (again...5k on Sat and a sprint on Sun!) and Tony.

My RR is up.   The one thing I did not mention was nutrition.  I was thinking that I would need to hit the sports drink at the aid stations in order to make it all the way through the half.  I was surprised to find only water at the aid stations and had no problems making it to the finish.   I did take a few sips of water at each aid station, but probably could have gone without that too given the cool temps.

Anyone have any exciting Halloween plans?

LOL, we went to a party Saturday night and Sam went as a runner so she could get away with wearing compression tights after her run.

Halloween parade and party at kids school today at 2:00 then trick-or-treating tonight.

Happy Halloween! AWESOME weekend of racing everyone!!!

Doug and Linda- Amazing performances in really difficult conditions! Congrats on the podiums!!!

David- LOVE all the pics! Sounds like a great weekend was had by all! Congratulations!

Rachel, Jayne, Dan-  Nice PR's!!! Congrats!!!

Andy- 14 minute course PR is fantastic! Congrats Triathlete

Tony- Sounds like a rough day... glad you all had a restart

Sam- Way to go getting in that monster run in cold, rainy conditions. It takes a HUGE amount of mental strength not to call it quits before getting 10 miles in, let alone 30, on solo long runs when the conditions are tough. Nice job toughing it out. You are going to ROCK JFK!!!

Off to read RR's

Post 'em when you're finished!!!

October's totals:
Run:27h 05m 46s  - 162.67 Mi
Hiking:4h 04m
Yoga:1h 00m

This month I decided to re-claim my run and set out to run every day in October, a minimum of :30. I had a blast this month and logged some nice runs, some awesome runs with friends (thanks Steve!) on both the track and trails. If you've never done a block running experiment, I highly recommend it. It's really amazing how your body adapts to daily running, IMO. It's also cool to know that each day you just gotta run. No mind-games, no conflicts, find the time and do it. Gonna keep my streak going for awhile and see how it goes, but next month I really also want to find my bike and throw in a few of those miles.

Love all the racers!!

Can't wait to read all the RR's!!

Have anyone here (I'm going to assume no, but doesn't hurt to ask) done Barb's Race or heard anything about it?

I know Linda did the Vineman 70.3, it's the same course.    There's a chance that I will do Barb's Race (money reasons, and I really don't care too much about being involved with an Ironman brand, it makes no difference to me).

Part of me is so scared...another part of me is to go do it before I get hitched.

Off to read the RR's!

I think I can say I've officially settled into my first OS quite well. I promised myself that I would not get injured for the fourth year in a row by overdoing it and my hours certainly support that goal.

October's totals:
Bike:13h 01m - 235.2 Mi
Run:15h 55m 54s - 106.19 Mi
Swim:11h 19m - 22000 Yd
Core Training:1h 00m
Walking:4h 55m

Consistent activity this month.  Still one more 45min bike to go, but this is such a huge improvement over the last 12 months

I agree on the consistent running - I ran almost every day this month - I think I missed 4 days.  I can tell a huge difference - run fitness has increased boatloads and I am up to a planned 25miles this week.   I think the key is pace...  I have finally embraced different pacing for different runs.  Running with purpose - who knew....

October's totals:
Bike:15h 03m 16s  - 258.8 Mi
Run:13h 49m 04s  - 72.48 Mi
Swim:3h 54m 18s  - 10340.42 Yd

Nice job to you, Kyla and Rachel for your running mileage.  Only caveat is running everyday doesn't work for everyone even if kept on the easy side.

The voice of reason.

Wow, what a fantastic weekend!   Let me see if I can keep it all straight:

David - adorable photos and congrats on a sub 3 hours olympic!  Your weather looks so yummy!

Rachel - way to hit that goal!  Good job.

Linda and Doug - such super studs.  I would totally DNS in these conditions.  You guys rock. Congrats on the hardware.

Sam - 30 miles - ugh, just kill me now.  You are one tough chicka

Dan - killer HM!

Jayne - way to PR in a 5K.  Sometimes that is really hard to do b/c people are weaving in and out of the crowd so much it is hard to find your groove and run your race.  Good work.

Tony - Olive Oil was a sand bagger - make her cat up.  As for the rest that sucks.  Lots of alcohol will fix that.

It's great to see such a busy weekend at the end of October!

Doug, Linda, and Sam - amazing what you all accomplished on a day that was made for rolling over and going back to sleep. Way to go!

Dan - Congratulations on pacing yourself to an awesome PR!

David - Great job at Noosa! That sounds like such a fun weekend.

Tony - I think you need to drink the beer BEFORE those races, as well as after!

Jayne - way to go on the PR!

Rachel - congratulations on your 10k, and a great month of running!

Andy - Great job on both of your races!

Linda - Yay for hitting taper! Take it easy and recuperate from all you've been through this month.

Kyla - I'm glad you got your run back!

Happy Halloween, everyone!

I decided to leave my numbers metric so they look a little better.  Oct was definitely my off season.  Being in the US for 2 weeks put a damper on my swim and bike and getting the wire pulled out of my right ring finger took one more week away from the swimming.

October's totals:
Bike:2h 00m 29s  - 68 KM
Run:11h 31m 13s  - 121.56 KM
Swim:2h 00m  - 2350 M

Steve commented on my HM RR saying that he was surprised at the size of my age group.  Just for grins, here is the breakdown by age group for the HM.   This is based on the results which came out today.  Looks like almost 15% of the folks that signed up were either DNS or DNF:

  • M 19-29 217 12%
  • M 30-39 463 26%
  • M 40-49 552 31%
  • M 50-59 350 20%
  • M 60+    173 10%
  •
  •               1755
  •
  • W 19-29 69 20%
  • W 30-39 98 28%
  • W 40-49 97 28%
  • W 50-59 66 19%
  • W 60+    19 5%
  •
  •               349

Managed to do some running last month and everything feeling good again so I'm happy!

I'm aiming to improve my cycling over the next few months but it'll be early rides soon as the temperatures and humidity increase.

WHAT?!?!?!!  THE MICROSOFT FAMILY HAS AN IPAD?!?!?!   That is very cool of you to go through so much effort to find the owner.

And I love the costume, it looks so warm and cozy.  Can I borrow it?  Of course I can't compete with the cuteness of the model.   How did she like trick or treating?

DJ- no need to be scared! Barb's Race is very low key, swim (very calm, easy sighting) and bike are the same as Vineman 70.3, run is a little different and looks like 1 1/2 loops of the 3 loop full distance course...you get to skip the biggish hill (twice!) out to the vineyard and back, so that is kind of nice. Weather is warm, but probably cooler than Vegas...I think you would love it, the bike course is very beautiful (albeit bumpy). I loved the 70.3 course for my first...the weather can be the wild card and you train in Vegas! Go for it!

Trick or treating consisted of going to 3 of our neighbors house that were still awake and give us the time of day, only 2 were home. (if you haven't been to our house we are in a neighborhood where the median age is probably 55 and they stare at us like we are from a different planet). Next year is going to rock!!!! And I can't wait for Xmas this year!!!
