TJ, congrats on your race!

My race yesterday was interesting - I can't say exactly how I did because the timing was really messed up - in fact, they dont even have me in the results.  I had my garmin going, but I screwed things up using it, so I'm not really sure how I did; but, I think my time was about 1:29, which would put me around 4 in my AG.  Of course, looking at the results of the women ahead of that time I see they have one running a 12+ minute 5k.  I don't think that is right:0.  Looking at some of the other results, I see other people with 4+, 6+ and 10+ minute 5ks, so either the timing is really screwed up or those people severely cut the course (or they are really fast ).

Regardless of results, I had a great time.  RR to come.

Shark week starts today.   I'm in Heaven.       To our Australian friends, how do you cope?      Cool  I have a few shark tales for my diving and surfing days.    Nothing like on TV, though.

I love sharks! I have no interesting shark tales--just a lot of sightings of different kinds during swimming.

So, okay, not an Aussie, but ... I think they'd adopt me as an honorary one. Same hemisphere, small dividing sea.

Indonesia is a major shark-products exporting nation. This makes me very sad.

Have a wonderful time at the bike race (that IS 100 on a bike ... right?) and with back to school.

doesn't cross my mind they're not so frequent in Melbourne. It's always surfers anyway the early morning or dusk ones and usually pretty deep water. In Cairns way more concerned about salt water crocs and killer jelly fish so small you can't see em!!

Hi Manatees!!

I am home and under a million loads of laundry.  No OCBP tri, they only hold it for the guards.  It was rainy last night anyway so the race was likely postponed for today.  Had a lovely time away.....reality sucks.  Laundry and grocery shopping (BOO HISS)

crazy flooding here. Evacuations are underway a few miles from here, but we are fine. I ran through town, and we are actually drying out quite nicely. I wore my trail shoes just in case.

Our beaches get closed here regularly due to sharks. Last summer it started in October and was nearly every weekend till early December. I remember standing on the beach for a race briefing in the middle of december and the guy doing it stood up and said "Good news today guys, we haven't had a shark sighting YET so we are good to go!" It raised a very half hearted nervous giggle from those of us who were about to head into the water. We get them in our river here too, mainly bull sharks that can tolerate the fresh water, but from what I have heard they are more aggressive than the white pointers that are normally responsible for the attacks that we get here.

I'm with Jo though of more concern are the jelly fish and the blue ringed octopus.

Have a great day everyone and enjoy your OWS today

I assume it is like everything else - it all depends upon what you are used to.  Around here, there are gators in all the lakes and everyone swims in them (there are some areas you would not swim because of the number).  Or those of us who grew up swimming in the ocean or gulf, you don't even think about the sharks.  However, it seems that Australia has more than it's fair share of deadly things - sharks, jelly fish, blue ringed octopus (I never heard of them before), crocodiles, lots of different types of deadly snakes etc.  That makes our mainly passive alligators and sharks look like nothing!  You guys are tough

Went to the store for a few things after swimming. Soooo hard not to grab every single chocolate thing off the shelves. More proud of resisting that than probably anything I've done in quite awhile.

Oh my. Swimming makes me ridiculously hungry. I have to remind myself that I didn't actually burn as many calories as my body tries to tell my mind that I  did.

Morning Manatees!

I took a day off yesterday and it was GLORIOUS!  Tony and I got massages, lounged by the beach, did a little shopping, and then lounged at home while watching Shark Week!

I also pulled the trigger and registered for my first 70.3 - the Great Illini - which seems weird it's my first HIM considering I've done an IM already... and I also *may* have bought one of the Betty Designs tri kit that I've been coveting...  just maybe.

Congratulations on your first HIM. I'll be interested to hear how different it is to race it vs the IM. You really had no choice but to buy that tri kit, it is too cool. I bought a new pair of running shoes, can't post the pick for some reason, but they are black and pink. I'm not really a pink person, but actually like the look. I also need to buy a new pair of Hokas. I like buying things from amazon, with one click the item is purchased and you don't feel like it cost anything !

I'm actually more nervous about the HIM than the IM, which I think is a bit weird, but I guess that's just because I haven't done the HIM distance before?  Oh well, I guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks just how different it is from the IM.

How do you like the Hokas?  I know someone who just bought some this weekend and loved them because they had SO much cushion for her bad knees.... actually, maybe I don't want to know so that I don't feel my Amazon addiction with anything else that I feel like I NEED to buy!

Apparently we will be starting at the base and running up the hill about 45 seconds below our threshold pace. The hill is something like 1.6 miles long with 5 or 6% grade I think? We get to the top, rest for a minute (I think?) then jog down slowly.

Someone asked, "How many reps? Or is it just one?" and he responded, "Oh. If you just did one you would walk away from doing the workout saying, boy that sure sucked. You will do 3. Because when you do 3, in this case, the first one doesn't matter because you have 2 more, the second one will be very hard and the third, you will just be trying to breathe."

LOL! I just love when someone forces him to explain things like that.

hahaha...ouch!  Was his response drawn out, full of pregnant pauses and complete with a sadistic laugh at the end? You know, since he was describing the torture of the day Sealed

Ok, so I survived this workout!!! It was REALLY difficult, pretty much just as our coach described, but it was really good. I believe myself to be more of a strength runner (and less of a speed runner) therefore it tapped into my strengths.

What is funny about my running group is that they are so competitive that there is no sadistic laugh needed. These people WANT to do this shyte and our coach more serves as someone who keeps people from doing too much rather than too little.

In fact, for our last rep our group elected to do "extra credit" which meant a 2.6 mile long hill (rather than the 1.6 we did for the first two reps.)

I'm sure it was a very entertaining scene. A group of about 20, marching up this big azz winding hill while our coach chases us in his car, barking commands "shoulders down!" "Keep your arms moving!" etc.

I was really glad to be done. My running partner and I jumped into the lake afterwards.

Other than the clown look, I love my Hokas!  They have allowed me to keep running despite healing from a long bout of capsilitis in my foot (yes, another injury).  They also keep your legs from feeling so beaten up on long runs.  I do, however, hope soon to be able to just run in them for the longer runs and my zoots, brooks or pearl izumis  - i know I have a problem, for shorter runs.

OMG single leg deadlifts with Piglet Andrew last night - my butt is solid as a rock!   He is one of life's naturally gifted trainers.  And easy on the eye...

Woke up at 5am to ride the drainer today - thought better of it and hopped back into bed!  So that's now tonight....8pm, I will wish I'd stuck with it this morning.

Update on my No sugar no grains - the weight appears to be falling off.  I love it!

Just popping in for a quick hello and update.  I had a super week in Lake Placid, came home for a day and a part then hit the road for a hockey tournament.  Amongst all that I needed to find a new (to me) car, get a loan, sell the old one, etc.  Crazy.  I pick up my new darling tomorrow after we visit the notary to change over the title and registration, my dear previous car is already sold.  Home now for 3 days, then off on another trip to the Finger Lakes region.  Home for 3 days, then off on another trip to Erie.  So yeah, don't expect to see me in our forum too much in the next 2 weeks!

Just (literally 1min ago) talked to DH about Hokas. Getting something extra, extra cushiony in the next couple of months for my marathon training. I really don't think I can put that much time/distance on my knee in my Nikes.

Funny article in Aug Triathlete that totally reminded me of Yanti. P.44 Common Ground by Holly Bennett, it's about triathletes traveling and cultural differences...in Bali and Asia Good for a couple of chuckles Smile

FWIW, I have Hokas and I really, really don't like them. Really wanted to, but really don't. I advise all to buy from a place you can return them if they don't work.
