kkcbelle - 2010-08-14 3:10 PM Did my little 5k torture-fest today.

Race Report

Honestly this was miserable for me. I totally went into it with the mental attitude of "You can push for a bit more than 20 minutes. Hang on. It's finite. Be tough. Be strong. Run fast. Run hard." After about 1 mile I was done and spent the next 1.5 coming up with reasons to stop, LOL! I haven't done any speed work and that hurt me physically, and probably mentally as well. This was all about gathering data for future tempo runs and speed work, so it is what it is. And thank goodness it's DONE!!

Time was 24:03 (I was hoping for sub-24... pissed that I could not pull 3 seconds out of somewhere, but really, I don't feel that I could have!). Miles were 7:24,7:45,8:15. Clearly I choked at the end. Glad it's done!!!

Super race Kyla!

Jumping in super quick to let you know I'm done with breakthrough workout #3.  Haven't loaded the data yet, but overall it was a success.....I now know I can climb 10,000ft without getting out of the saddle, including a 22% grade long SOBing hill!  I also know that I can run 1:30 afterwards....the only downer, you gotta do it on those same flippin' hills...walked the 13% grades, but ran the rest.    Nutrition was spot on....only big problem was you know what....that remains a huge pain!

With my ice bath done, I am signing off to eat some pizza!

Awesome race Kyla and great job Suzy!!!

DJ - soory to hear about all you are going through between your cat and your teammate.  Always very scary to hear  about people getting hit while on their bike.

Tony - How about...FORGET ME, SAVE THE BIKE!

We took the boys to an amusement park today.  This is essentially our last weekend of the summer with them - they will be with their grandparents for 2 weeks starting next Friday - so we wanted to do something fun.  It was a great day.  My two oldest are finally tall enough that they can go on most of the big rides and they love them which is awesome.  Rode some great coasters with them today!

dalessit - 2010-08-14 6:46 AM So I am getting a road id, what should I put on the last line.

Trying to think of something good, most of the ones I was thinking about are obscene.

The only clean one I have come up with so far is.

"DON'T LET HER PULL THE PLUG!"

My last line, following the allergy/med info is: "OK to treat with beer and/or Maple Bars"

way to go Kyla and Suzy. Great effort from both of you. I went out for a 19K run yesterday and had to cut it short to 8.5. Just didn't have it in me to finish. Darn summer cold. I will push through though...I still have one more race this year.

I dream of the day when I am tall enough to go on all the rides .

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Sunday.  The weather in Wisconsin is picture perfect...zero humidy, high 70s with a breeze...and it sunny!!!

DJ - Sorry to hear, will keep ya in my thoughts and prayers.

Kyla - Nice race.  Those three seconds will come soon!  It is good to hear you left it all out there, cant be mad at yourself if you pushed your limits, you are close, only a matter of time.

Suzy - Nice workouts, pizza... fuel of champions, and sounds delicious right now!!

I have been MIA a few days due to work/life being insane, slowly catching up with the posts, luckily it has not been too busy.

Will hopefully have my RR up shortly from my race this morning, but I may nap first, have a brutal headache right now.

So my first 2.4m swim on the course went fairly well.  I was a disaster on the siting front and used my same "easy effort" mentality and even with that I would have made the cut off by 30 minutes.

Pretty funny as we were in transition changing I started talking to a woman who was also training for her first IM WI.  She finished the swim in 2:10 and was totally jazzed. Said she never swam that far before.  She said she barely biked and was planning to walk the run, but had zero fear for the day.  Puts it all in perspective for me....while some of us worry over every little detail others can just go with the flow....there are days I wish that was me!

Awesome story!! It is cool how people just roll with it. I try to learn from them and let a bit of it ooze on to me. But I'm not very good at it. And congratulations on a successful swim!!

When I woke up this morning (and even still, this afternoon), I was amazed at how sore I was after yesterday. Running mile after mile after mile of easy pace doesn't faze me one bit. Running 3+ fast... OUCH!!! Just goes to show ya...!!

A big welcome to John and family to their new home!! Happy settling in!! What fun to explore new running and cycling routes! Have you found your OWS spot yet, too??

Kyla--it won't be long and you'll be doing MP long runs and not feeling a thing the next day.  Trust me!!!

John--you're moved in and no photos yet?  Really?

George--is that amusement park open in the Fall??? I might have some free time to hit the bumper cars and tilt-a-whirl (my favorite ride as a kid)!

He doesn't know where the OWS spots are but I bet he has located the nearest Beer Store!

Actually the best running spot around is only about 10 minutes from his house and the best biking trail is only about 15-20 minutes.  He'll have to go about 30-45 to get to the closest OWS area.....shhhhh don't tell anyone else but he is only going to be living about 5-10 minutes from me and I don;t want the neighbors up in arms.

Howdy everyone.  Hope all is well in BTMG world.  Great job out there this weekend Suzy. Sorry the saddle is still giving you issues.  Hopefully your scheduled saddle fitting will provide some relief.

I had my first epic training weekend.  7 mile run on Friday, 50 on the bike on Sat and 7 run again on Sunday.  I've never done that kind of combination before and am super stoked I did it.  Actually I ran on Sunday with a girlfriend who was struggling so it was an easier run than I would have liked.  I was really feeling the juice and could have attacked the course.  Oh well.

BTW,  I GOT A DROID THIS WEEKEND!!!  No clue how to use it.  My productivity at work today is totally shot while I sit and play with my new toy!!!

Sorry it has been so long. I really worked on the run last week and made the full 2.5 mile loop without stopping and did it in 32 minutes. There is a lot of hills in this run and I am making progress. My shins didnt hurt, quads didnt get sore and I was actually out of breath. Saturday I took my bike out and rode 36 miles barely beating a terrible thunderstorm. The 36 was a little harder than I thought, I was riding alone so I got bored. It was ridiculously hot so I really had to push it. My total time ended up being 2:24 but about 10 minutes of that was breaks to eat and what not. I really pushed the mph to get a good time and my legs felt pretty good. This winter I am getting an indoor trainer and will def work on getting some more strenght in my legs and push it to get my LT up. Tonight I am heading out to swim again and then possibly run. Now that hte run is getting easier I am enjoying it a lot more.

WAY TO GO TRACY!!! Since you didn't mention it I am going to assume the body held up well which is great news!

Nice work Mark.  You've come a long way in a short time.   Just remember that hard breathing is NOT always a good sign.  It's workout dependent.  If you were out there doing intervals or fartleks, makes total sense.  Your long or recovery run, not so much.

Not a lot to report from me.  I am going to get fitted for a new saddle this afternoon.  Oh and will be taking in the RU at the same time.  I went to ride it this morning which is a rarity and the DI2s are dead.  Insert eye roll here!

There is bad juju around that bike.  I think someone needs to wave a dead chicken over it or something...  (Maybe some KFC might work)

Yeah I now that I am really using my right leg more than my left so I am trying to work on evening it out. I think part of the problem lies from a soccer injury where I tore one of my quads about 25% in and it healed and scarred over before they knew about it. I am not sure if this is why it get sore faster but I am hoping to even it out. I am working on the circles and foot position when I pedal. I am hoping this winter I can do a lot of quad work with squats, leg press, leg extensions to build some strength. I am going to do a lot of hamstring, anterior tibialis and calf work as well. I am losing weight pretty good so far and I am down to 260, I cannot wait to break in to the 250's.

Suzy-I wasnt breathing uncontrollably hard but I could actually feel it in my lungs. My previous runs I always had to stop due to the lactate in my legs or the fact that my shins were on fire. My wife has been running with me and she really allows for me to push the pace. I hate being beat lol and I love picking on her so I try to keep up.
