DoloresM2 - 2009-10-13 3:03 PM Hi all - so this post is NOT about what I will wear.

It's about the pre-race meet up - I've offered my place to do it on Saturday afternoon before race day.  Everyone still up for this?  There's a glitch in my plan.  The person who originally was going to come with and help out serving food and fun stuff like that can't make it now.  I don't want to be the one on my feet all day as I'm racing the next day.   I'm sure you understand.  I'd love to have everyone over still though....thoughts? suggestions?

I won't be able to meet up with you all at a dinner, but would really like to meet people at a group swim or something.  At least at the athlete dinner.  Especially the BOPers so that I can look for friendly faces to keep me company on the run!

Maybe we could do the meet up at the Friday night dinner? Anyone know the logistics of the layout and if we could get a group type table organized?

Forget about it..  it a big tent everybody sits wherever, no reservations, first comes first sits.   So that is not going to work..   I am skipping the dinner,  I rather make my own spagetti,  I'll be there after for the info meeting, the one that comes after the dinner.

If you have never been to an IM pre-race dinner, I would suggest you go check it out. It's kind of part of the whole experience. I haven't decided if I am going but I went in 2007 at both IMAZ and Kona and it was fun, especially in a big group. The food isn't that great, though.

Hi again - I've been thinking...come over Saturday. Bring food, don't bring food - whatever's clever. The door is open.

(310) 403-5781  - 1283 W. Myrna Lane in Tempe.

I'll actually be in town from Wednesday the 18th until the 24th.

Actually the IMAZ meeting is quite nice, outdoors at tables along the lake.  I'd do it again.  Yeah, the food isn't that great (cookies are good  ) but like bryan said, it's about the experience, being with the other athletes, watching the inspirational video (they had a pretty good one with Roch and Frey), etc.  They could skip the local mayor's speech, but i can sit thru that

I agree with you,  I think it is a good thing to experience.  However for the purpose of meet and greet the BTers I don't think it will work...   But yeah, you are right,   if you haven't experience this,  it is a must.

I may go sleeveless.. having swum in both, I like having my shoulders and arms free.

And PJ- - I don't think they make them that small. You could maybe get one of those shorties and call it a full

I talked to (2) people at my recent 1/2 marathon who did IMAZ last November.. Both agreed the water was cold, so I am going to bring a full and sleeveless wetsuit and the practice swim should be the deciding point..  Race conditions for the Vineman 70.3 races I did in 2007 and 2008 were drastic, almost 20 degrees difference.  Until we get close to race day I don't think we can judge what it will be this year..

Sunday will be a good test for me with a 6 hr ride and 3:30 run brick..  Get to spend Friday putting on new rubber and tubes..  Let's hang in there... I know all about testy.. Just talk to my hubby...

WHOA! That's a huge training day... 9.5 hours total!?! I'm not a coach but that certainly seems excessive. I've heard the Endurance Nation coaches say that the race simulation workouts should be 7 hours max.

Wow TriBabe. That is a long training effort. I won't be doing either half of that this weekend. For me, a 6hr ride or a 3:30 run would set me back more than help me. Make sure you have a good recovery after that level of effort.

Yes, a 3:30 transition run is well outside what is advisable. But then again, it also depends on how many miles you cover in 3:30. In general, I would never advise any brick off a long bike greater than 2 hours, ditance regardless.

Talk to me about wearing a sleevless wetsuit to swim in...am I nuts?  If I am, anyone got a full sleeve small wetsuit for me

BRRR!!!! I'm planning on a full suit and neoprene hoodie. Based on last years temps, water should be similar to Oceanside in April and it worked great there.

Guess at some point v1.1 will be posted as they listed the run course twice and not the bike course on pg. 20.

It is seriously that cold...FML...I think I made some sort of pact with myself that being an Iron(wo)man has something to do with just dealing with what is thrown at you...

Someone else with little body fat that is a wuss about cold and wore a sleeveless chime in!!!  I'm going to start jumping in our pool at night just to toughen up...good plan?

LOL! No, kiddo, I would NOT go with the sleveless, but not because of the cold water, which it will be and I hate that too, but because it's ALWAYS faster, so you are out of the water sooner. Trust me, it is.

I did the G'ade swim last year in a sleeveless.  Did a 25 minute swim and never warmed up, and I swim in the San Fran Bay in a sleeveless!  Eventhough I am not a fan, I'm going with a full for IMAZ.

Sleeveless for Silverman and IMAZ this year for me. Full suit last 4 years at IMAZ I was constantly flooding the suit with fresh water. Don't pay any attention to me though.... 60 degrees in sleeveless is the coldest tested and I was just happy as could be.

My goal for Sunday is the volume and not the pace, which will definately be below race-pace.  My brick of 6/2:30 on a Saturday two weeks ago went well and I felt good on Monday.. No soreness or leg deadness.. Worked in a run/walk routine during the run that I will use during the race.  Was able to complete 12 miles in the 2:30 time.. For this run I plan on 15-17; easy pace.  Per my coach, this is the last long brick I will be doing.

I'll be careful...  And thank you for the advice...  If I feel it is becoming too much I will cut it short..

Well, my longest ride of training is in the books - 120 miles yesterday. I have friends coming to town this weekend for the Nike Marathon so I had to get the ride done on a weekday. It was surprisingly good and much hillier than AZ which gives me hope for having a nice ride on race day. Now to just get through my longest run and swim this weekend and I'll be feeling pretty good about being ready!
