I'm back to work this week, so I haven't been around much. We're also dealing with some flooding issues. Our town is fine, but earlier in the week, I thought we were going to be completely cut off from the rest of the world -- one road was open. We are expecting more rain tonight, and all day tomorrow. It's been crazy here.

Here are some pictures from our county.

This little town is about four miles from us, maybe a little closer. Anyway, all residents were evacuated on Monday and told to bring supplies for five days away from home. I don't think they'll be able to be back Friday, even.

In the picture below, you can see the highway that connects our town with the rest of the county to the north. This is the highway I ran down on July 4th. The highway is open right now (and I mean, it really is an hourly thing), but it has been closed off and on all week.

I know there are tougher things going on in the world right now, but this is still super stressful. Most outdoor activities have been cancelled or moved indoors this week. You can't be outside at all -- the mosquitoes are aggressive and abundant.

It's just the idea that even though you have just about everything you need in your one square mile town, if you might need something we don't have here, you might not be able to get out to get it. Like I said, the roads being open or closed changes hourly.

I hope things have gotten better over night and not worse and that the water is starting to subside a little.

GO AG NATIONALS MANATEE RACERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a way to track them?

Felicia, I heard there is more rain headed your way this weekend. Please stay safe and dry.

DH decided to try clipless pedals so last weekend we got him some MTB pedals that have a cleat and a platform. So he put the new pedals on last night and tried it out... in the house.

Ha! I was worried about witnessing the slow tip. DS1 commented that his dad was using the walls to avoid the slow tip. No crashes in the house and no crashes when we took it outside, on the trail, this morning!

Oh, and thanks. I luf the house and all it's south-west-ness.

Thanks for all the well-wishes for my boy. He's having a good time...even though the little girl next to him cries because she misses her parents. He's tried to make her feel better, but "it just doesn't work." lol

Been a busy couple of days getting into our full school mode. No more early morning/late night Pod check-ins. And I'm trying to get most of my workouts done before noon now so my evenings can be family time. THAT'S a big change.

Soooo...I probably have a lot to catch up on, right?

How the Manatees make a living

Sorry that I kind of dropped the ball on the how do we all finance this hobby.  I do computer support for North Carolina Cooperative Extension.  I work of NC State University in Raleigh.  Right now I am working towards an event management solution (held up by federal rules on how Extension can use money and what we can charge for, etc. and by university politics).  Part of this may or may not be email marketing and Customer relationship management (CRM) software.  Oh, and as long as we are working with accounting, how about a storefront?  Oh yeah, and...  While I am waiting for the powers that be, I'm working with getting folks into our web solution which sometimes means moving their old site in by hand.

This is a previous list of Manatees in the working world (with a few updates from recent posts)

Chris - DBA/Sr. System Analyst/Data Processing Manager at a small multi bank holding company.
Janyne - NCSU computer geek
Stacey - business manager/financial controller for a system of private schools. So I do all the accounting and finance stuff.
Ann-Marie - attorney for a law enforcement agency
Jonathan AK - US Army Black Hawk Mechanic/Crew Chief in a Medevac Company.
Chad - route sales for a wine distributor plus website development and swim coaching
Richard - self employed truck driver and haulage expert
Salty - environmentally sustainable design, currently doing retail design work for a large corporation (designer (architectural/interior) for SBUX)
Tom - contract analyst for a seven hospital system
Jen -  Postdoctoral Research Fellow at a Medical Center attached to a University in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Department
TJ - federal criminal investigator for the U.S. Treasury
Kate - zookeeper at the Sacramento Zoo, one of the primary keepers of reptiles and amphibian
Jo - retail/merchandise planner
Felicia - college English professor
Kirsten - Veterinary Technician and a Vet Tech Educator
Marcus - E-6 in the USAF and a Crew Chief/Engine Troop on C-130-H3 cargo planes
JoGo - RN, manages cancer research, mainly in radiation, at a large university hospital.
Brie - Associate at small law firm, doing civil litigation, mostly defending property owners from suits by people who slip and fall on tiny patches of ice or non-existent liquids on stairs.
switch - research assistant in a biochemistry lab (job 1) and a grant and paper writer for a congenital heart surgeon (job 2)

I am also a mediator. As a mediator I need continuing mediator credits, which is why I'm spending my day at a boring seminar. So, please get the chatter going!

AKA More Manatee Time!

We may not be talkative enough today.  Where's the coffee?

I had to send my laptop to Phoenix for... something technical... so today I am attempting to be at least somewhat productive on our "public" computer. Yell
