No coffee? That's just wrong.

No coffee??  I'm not comprehending this... Why no coffee??? Whyyyyyyy??

On a side note, that's the same gym my parents go to during the winters when they're at their place in Casa Grande.

Why no coffee? well, it doesn't motivate my kids to get ready faster in the the morning... yet. Haha! A whole new type of stalking for snowbird season

Remeber a few weeks back when I mentioned that I had possibly gotten one of my co-workers started on tri? Well today I was talking with his wife (also a co-worker) and she "thanked" me for getting him started (notsomuch) because he's dragging her in to it as well. So she was asking if I've always been a swimmer. Uhhhhh, no. I told her I'm an adult onset swimmer. She asked how I've improved my time. It felt really weird telling her that my best improvements have come from suggestions from my online friends. Undecided

How the Manatees make a living

Sorry that I kind of dropped the ball on the how do we all finance this hobby.  I do computer support for North Carolina Cooperative Extension.  I work of NC State University in Raleigh.  Right now I am working towards an event management solution (held up by federal rules on how Extension can use money and what we can charge for, etc. and by university politics).  Part of this may or may not be email marketing and Customer relationship management (CRM) software.  Oh, and as long as we are working with accounting, how about a storefront?  Oh yeah, and...  While I am waiting for the powers that be, I'm working with getting folks into our web solution which sometimes means moving their old site in by hand.

This is a previous list of Manatees in the working world (with a few updates from recent posts)

Chris - DBA/Sr. System Analyst/Data Processing Manager at a small multi bank holding company.
Janyne - NCSU computer geek
Stacey - business manager/financial controller for a system of private schools. So I do all the accounting and finance stuff.
Ann-Marie - attorney for a law enforcement agency
Jonathan AK - US Army Black Hawk Mechanic/Crew Chief in a Medevac Company.
Chad - route sales for a wine distributor plus website development and swim coaching
Richard - self employed truck driver and haulage expert
Salty - environmentally sustainable design, currently doing retail design work for a large corporation (designer (architectural/interior) for SBUX)
Tom - contract analyst for a seven hospital system
Jen -  Postdoctoral Research Fellow at a Medical Center attached to a University in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Department
TJ - federal criminal investigator for the U.S. Treasury
Kate - zookeeper at the Sacramento Zoo, one of the primary keepers of reptiles and amphibian
Jo - retail/merchandise planner
Felicia - college English professor
Kirsten - Veterinary Technician and a Vet Tech Educator
Marcus - E-6 in the USAF and a Crew Chief/Engine Troop on C-130-H3 cargo planes
JoGo - RN, manages cancer research, mainly in radiation, at a large university hospital.
Brie - Associate at small law firm, doing civil litigation, mostly defending property owners from suits by people who slip and fall on tiny patches of ice or non-existent liquids on stairs.
switch - research assistant in a biochemistry lab (job 1) and a grant and paper writer for a congenital heart surgeon (job 2)

I am also a mediator. As a mediator I need continuing mediator credits, which is why I'm spending my day at a boring seminar. So, please get the chatter going!

I had to send my laptop to Phoenix for... something technical... so today I am attempting to be at least somewhat productive on our "public" computer. Yell

C'mon, what are the odds that the fed govt is paying attention to what happens on computers?

Jayne, You can add I am an RN to the list.  I currently do utilization review for an insurance company.  That means if you're sick I determine how many days you get to stay in the hospital and when there is a need for further review....few other pleasant and not so pleasant tasks too like reviewing for nursing homes and rehabs....home health and hospice.....prior authorizations for surgery or chemo admissions.....all the "fun" stuff  NOT.  They didn't teach me anything about contract law or business in nursing school so it's sometimes not much fun to go through all that.  I know SICK when I see it, do not really care for the "what are the benefits on this contract?" part of my job.

Seminar is over!!!  Here's what I learned:  TJ's husband likes to ride bikes in the house; we've got a lot of job diversity in the pod; Tj's computer time is being monitored by the feds; Tom is a really fast runner; the pod has a bad coffee problem; and Monica gets stabby.

All in all a successful seminar!

I'm not sure whether to say I have the "non-job" or the "job that made all else possible" Wink

3 years ago I traded in paper grading and lesson planning for diaper changing and bottle making (although, these days it's more potty training and homework checking). I'll likely go back to some form of teaching, but for now I'm a mommy.

AND the Pod has some really interesting jobs going on!

Hiya Manatees!  Race day is in two days!  I did the pre-swim today without a wetsuit and didn't die.  Surface temp was 75, but parts were way colder and parts were warmer.  I'm going to go with two caps and ear plugs on race day to prevent getting dizzy.  I think I'll be just fine.  If anything it helps me to move faster.

Other than that, I've been on vacation with my parents.  Lots of visiting and doing touristy things.  Nothing really will compare to riding a mechanical chili pepper tomorrow though.

I'm getting all of my traveling plan squared away for the weekend, as they have been changing hourly... It now looks like I will be driven to Monterey for the Spartan, then I have a "De-lux Cabin" to stay in overnight at the local KOA; then I will be driven to Fresno on Sunday for caving. A lot of my running group is all excited about taking over the KOA and partying and whatnot. I, on the other hand, let out an excited squeak when I discovered that the cabins have a actual shower. I have my priorities. Laughing

Speaking of coffee ...

I went off coffee the same time I got food poisoning, so I guess a couple months ago? I do a coffee taper for Ironman as well, reintroducing a little during race week to get used to it again, and then SLAM it on race day so it really works.

And yes, I've continued the plant-based eating.

And yes, I've been packing in advance.

And yes, I've been resting and not working out when ill.

Conclusions:

1. You can now ice-skate in hell.

2. The world is ending, so pack up your skates.

No coffee? That's just wrong.

Oh please, someone please deliver. I'm not too far from Erin Laughing

I'll be right there.

When Salty gets back I need to ask her about a new builing in Santa Fe that looks a LOT like it could be a SBux. *swoon* If so, it is in a SUPER convenient spot for me.

But will it be super convenient for your wallet?

Hopefully it wouldn't increase my usage much but would make it more convenient when I do go.

Depending on the route I take to walk to work, the minimum number of S'Bux I pass is two... and darn if I don't love getting those little stars every day on my app.

Yes, I'm addicted, and I don't care!  Cool

Yeah, me too. Triathlon and Starbucks. There are worse addictions. Laughing

Albuquerque and Santa Fe aren't SBux on every corner kinda cities. I do pass one on the way to work but it's not a convenient one to get to (left turn in and out on a busy street). This new one will make it much easier. There is also one on the way home from the gym so I stop in on my swim mornings Cool It's my motivator.

I am addicted to coffee in general. Within .5 mile of my house there is a Dunkin Donuts, Einstein's and SBux. I frequent all of them. After my morning run I usually grab the dog and head to Einsteins for a medium coffee. It's a ritual that the dog insists upon. Really, it's him. On the way to work I then stop at either SBux or DD. often I'm still drinking the coffee from Einsteins. Don't judge me.
Judgment? heck no! Jealousy? more than a bit You guys are cracking me up!
I have yet to sip from a Starbucks cup. Oh, and good luck for all the AG National racers this w/end ( and all you other racers too).

Well here I am in Sydney it's the middle of winter but this year Sydney turned on spring temps about 72 we took a long coastal walk to Bondi. Pics of the beach and the pool at Bondi. I may live here it's wonderful. Went to a sports store spent a bit and I've been hankering for a laptop for a while but never have time to shop for one. Here I wandered into an Apple store and came out with a Mac Air Notebook and $1500 poorer. Oops. Pumped for the run tomorrow. First year I did 93mi s second year did 94 target sub 90... Yikes

Here I wandered into an Apple store and came out with a Mac Air Notebook and $1500 poorer. Oops. Pumped for the run tomorrow. First year I did 93mi s second year did 94 target sub 90... Yikes
That looks beautiful. Good luck on your run tomorrow! I've got a Mac air , it is great ; you'll love it.
