Not if it's US-type bacon... http://www.southwestbaconfest.com/

Yes, I was going to ask for a clarification of what kind of bacon we are talking about.

I'd throw a pickle in there, too.

No.  Not wrong at all - the only thing wrong with this is that you're asking us if it's wrong!!

Yes, yes,'regular' bacon.  Oooh a pickle, that would have just topped it.

Oh, and BTW, I wasn't waiting for a reply before eating it.  But I did need to know if I was meant to feel guilty for doing so.

Nice job AGNat-ers and other racers! Can't wait to read the reports (especially the race weekend shenanigans).

Jo, so sorry about your friend. His family will be in my prayers.

I went to the myotherapist again. (why oh why does he feel a need to carry on a conversation with his elbow in my back?! It's almost as bad as the dentist!Yell) I am definitely feeling that *something* is happening. I feel... more loose in the joints I think. I feel great, even after the 3 hour hike with DS1 yesterday.

The office manager at the myotherapist is in to "essential oils". She mentioned a couple of them to me today. The peppermint, when rubbed topically on the legs, is supposed to "oxygenate the blood" and help release lactic acid. Not sure I believe that something topical can oxygenate the blood but I'm willing to try it pre-run to see how it affects my runUndecided. She gave me a small sample. She also mentioned another one that is supposed to help with migraines. I'm willing to try that one too, when I have my next one.

I think I'll do a little research though, after I read some race reports.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, put anything with peppermint or cinnamon on your temples for ANY reason.  Unless that burning feeling in your eyes for 24 hours is something that you enjoy, that is.  Trust me on this.

She did warn me about getting it near my eyes. She said if it accidentally happens to flush it with olive oil. Of course, I live in the land of the chili pepper. I've had that in my eyes a time or two Surprised

Flush your eyes with olive oil?  WTF?

I know, right?

Okay, I'm SO glad someone else questioned this too - I was wondering if I was so behind the times that OLIVE OIL was now a good thing to put into your eyes???

To avoid working on reasons not to give a crap load of guns back to a criminal, I decided to look up the peppermint and olive oil issues. According to the natural medicines comprehensive database, peppermint is POSSIBLY effective for tension headaches. There is insufficient evidence to rate it's effectiveness for muscle pain.

if you get oil in your eyes you can't use water to flush it out since oil and water don't mix. I can't believe I had to research that! So, first you have to emulsify the oil and then you can flush it with soap and water. You can use olive oil, but having olive oil in your eye is no fun, so it is better to use milk or cream.

don't you all feel smarter now?

Interesting. I agree with the milk product theory. When you eat a spicy chili water won't help, sour cream and cheese help. When I'm working with chilis (about that time again, the Hatch chilis are ripe) and get the chili oil on delicate spots (under the fingernails and other spots) I rub said spots with yogurt and it does the trick.

And just say no to giving back the guns.

Ahh, it's so good to know the manatee madness never changes!  Wetsuit hickeys, chili pepper riding, husbands practicing clipping in/out in the house, creepy creepers on the subway, olive oil, wine, poutine, coffee, Pop Tarts and bacon.  Love you guys!  Oh, and some super studly racing results from our AG contingents, races that involve caves (so awesome) and fun all around.  Nice work, gang, can't wait to read the reports!

So a question: if one participates in a 5K which measures short, one cannot claim a PR, correct?  What if one projects out the pace/time/numbers and realizes that if the race were the correct distance, one would've PRed? Wink

I think PRs are pretty personal. You can call it whatever you would like. Me? I'd maybe call it a PR pace or something but wouldn't count it until I did it on the full distance course.

I agree. While we can only race what they give us, if it were me it'd be a PR with an asterisk. Laughing

I wasn't DFL!  2nd to DFL, but I managed to stay 14 seconds ahead of the girl who was chasing me the whole way.

Anyway...I may actually be eligible for an award.  I was the 3rd Athena below 40 and they gave awards 3 deep.  Have to check tomorrow.

I'm really sad I missed meeting you.  Frown

I heard about that guy - there were policemen stationed by his bike for the entire time too, just waiting to see if anyone would come by to claim the bike.  Frustrating!!

Pewpy about being in the rain, it started to sprinkle as we were walking around and when we were getting our bikes back to the car we were just finishing loading everything when the rain REALLY started coming down.  Did you find out about the award yet???

Not yet.  I got an auto-reply.  I assume they are fairly backed up due to being at the race all weekend.  It says they hold them for 60 days, so I'm not too worried.

I agree, I don't feel it was a true PR since it wasn't accurate, which I verified with another racer with a Garmin.

Um... with your delayed flight and hence your lovely 'welcome' to Chicago??

So, there I was at 3:00 am on the el. As I floated between  sleep and consciousness, there was a man in the corner of my peripheral. Something about him caused me to take notice. I opened my eyes and slowly turned towards him, seeing the signs posted stating "If you feel unsafe, switch cars" as my gaze shifted ....

I want to share some awesome training updates.  Feeling mostly good going into my race in a couple weeks

Saturday - I rode 56 miles in 3 hrs 2 mins.  That's an 18.5 mph average on a ride that included nearly 3,000 feet of elevation gain!  I'm pretty stoked about that pace.  My race has that much gain - but it has almost 5,000 feet of loss.  My local rides gains and losses are equal!

Sunday - I swam (almost .7 miles) at a 1:39 pace without feeling like I was pushing it at all.

Sunday - later that day - I went for a 6 mile run.  My legs were still pretty sore from the ride the day before, but check out these splits (per mile): 8:47, 8:38, 7:58, 8:01, 7:54, 7:23.... ON SORE LEGS! Did I mention my legs were sore?

My conservative goal for my 1/2 Ironman is 5:30 - My aggressive goal is 5:15 - My "Holy sh*t" I killed it goal is 5:00 hours.

I'm feeling pretty good about everything right now as those paces put me right on target to hit my conservative goal (even if I add in transitions).

I'm trying real hard not to factor in any adrenaline boost I'm sure will come - or the negative 2,000 feet of elevation for the bike course...

Since I lived in Denver for 12 years, I am ignoring the elevation factor (6,224 feet vs sea level where I live).  The one thing that scares me is the heat (probably will be 95+ degree's and I haven't trained a day over 85 this year).  Even with the heat and elevation - I am starting to get really, really excited!  As long as I can hold up on the run - things are looking pretty good.

We shall see.

"But it's a wetsuit hickey" just requires a whole different level of explanation.

Is your hair long enough for the curling iron excuse?

Not quite.

Wear it proudly as you have no choice. When you catch someone looking at it, just give em a creepy wink.

if you can get some pawpaw cream on it (as pure as possible) it will help heal it quick and take the oowee out of it.

The weekend was CRAZY---the Spartan Race was epic--over 3000 ft elevation change, brutal obstacles, and even a rattlesnake! Laughing  The caving was crazy-scary but fun too---I learned how terrified I could be--and it wasn't from being underground/in a confined space, but slipping off of the rocks! (I did in joy rappelling into the cave though--the part I thought I would be most scared of!) More to come in RR and posts later, but I am really banged up and sore (bruises, sore muscles, skinned knees, etc....i.e. a great adventure! Here's a couple of caving pics:

Me rappelling into the cave--it was a 40 foot drop in through a smallish chimney....easier than I thought!

This was before all the terrifying moments--I still thought I had this somewhat beat! Not so much...And of course it was the morning after doing the 13+ mile, multi-elevationed Beast....Never said I was smart.

Wow!  Piglet Andrew is doing the Spartan and the Ultra Spartan or whatever - he's passed the exam to qualify to get in.  Sounds horrendous pretty sure one day he runs 21km and the following 42km as well as the obstacle stuff.

Well done!

I think I'm going to leave this one alone.

hickeys - wetsuit ones always attractive - but not as much fun as the real thing

Peppermint oil - apparently good for foot odour.

I'm not putting olive oil in my eyes - but I will drink it - if it's good quality.

Bacon wrapped havarti - No Sugar No Grains baby!

I did indeed put breastmilk in my daughter's eyes as a baby for pink eye - best cure there is.  Full of antibodies and good stuff.  Didn't breastfeed for long though - wanted my boobs back.

I think I'll just keep taking my migraine medication and try to avoid putting oil in my eyes to begin with.

Good idea Laughing

Peppermint on my temples would give me a migraine
